You can't really analyse cards like Ravings in such a manner... Nobody would play Think Twice if it was 3UU draw 2 at instant as even Jace's Ingenuity didn't see as much play as Think Twice.
Cards that have flash back should be evaluated differently than the sum of their parts.

Major problem with this card is the random discard part. If it was discard a card of your choice then I would love this card 5x more and easily see it played in many decks using red. But its decent as it is as the clause discard at random is never good when it happens to you.
Ranger's Guile is actually a good replacement for Vines of Vastwood in my current deck (Monogreen Lash). It still gives the 1 mana instant speed hexproof and is guaranteed to give the +1/+1 without extra mana cost, which is actually pretty helpful when I'm trying to get as many spells out on my Lash'd creature as fast as possible (and generally working with 2-3 mana).
Now I just need something to fill the role Prey's Vengeance was providing as a 1 mana 8 poison spell...

People are way overvaluing a sculpted hand. Desperate Ravings may cause a few bad beats in limited, where card quality variance is high, but in constructed, it will shine: the card advantage may be slightly less useful than Think Twice's, but the ability to dump stuff into your graveyard absolutely makes up for it. Don't believe for a second that WotC didn't print this in the same set as Think Twice and appreciate the implications of having them in the same deck.
Wit's End is the PERFECT answer to your opponent's Monomania however.
Just hold on to your Wit's End when they Monomania, so you can Wit's End them on your next turn!!!
I think this is fairly reminiscent of the "Jace Battles" we have seen in past standards.. My guess is we will soon witness the great Monomania-Wit's End battles.

I agree. It is a bit disappointing that it wasn't at least +2/+2 but for 1 mana it is still better than Vines of Vastwood un-kicked, which is going to go very well with Livewire Lash.

if it was draw 2 discard 1 it would be blue. not to mention the fact that every blue deck would run multiples. The only thing that makes this card red is the "at random" clause
I think the hate on this card is unfounded. it's not a staple, but not every card can be a staple. it fits into decks with lots of recursion or decks that run 4 of every card and can afford to pitch anything in their hand without worrying (i.e. counter burn which is the best application of this card IMO)

Yeah but I think what a lot of us are hoping for and really wanting is for red to get a bigger portion of the color pie. Red has had non-card-advantage draw spells with random discards before but they suck horribly. I think what would be a really good idea would be some draw spells with selected discard like Careful Study but in red. That is what a lot of people seem to be wanted this card to be but this card is not that good and the random discard ruins it.
The idea of red "looting" was first given to R&D during the GDS2, which occurred about a year ago. If R&D ultimately did decide to try letting red add that effect to its pie (and it sounded like the idea was received positively) it shouldn't be too much longer before we start seeing that take place, considering the timing between set design and release.

I'm really hoping that they do decide to implement this and that this card doesn't count. A purely colorshifted Merfolk Looter would be nice.
