Pretty much this. Magic is the most balanced card game of all time. I highly doubt Wizards would make the announced cards without having either more planeswalker hoses or artifact hoses.
do i really have to bring up jitte, affinity, cascade, or skullclamp?
WotC: Hey! Remember that set that every single magic player knows is the most overpowered and broken set in the game's entire 20-year history? Let's do that AGAIN!!!111!LOLWTFBBQOMG!!11!
Apparently wizards has learned NOTHING from the first mirrodin set. I thought that just maybe they would try to do something like give mirrodin 2.0 some vague sense of balance, but that is clearly not the case.
Tempered Steel?
BROKEN.
BROKEN, BROKEN, BROKEN.
Yeah, let's give the already overpowered artifact decks TWICE the effect of what other cards do for the same cost with no drawbacks whatsoever. Utterly shameless.
Elspeth 2.0? Yeah, let's make sure she is NEVER less than a 30$ card in any standard format. It is so easy to break the game in half with this card it's not even funny. Even going near a G/W deck with this is downright stupid how strong it is.
do i really have to bring up jitte, affinity, cascade, or skullclamp?
jitte = kinda imba, but being a legend means it's more fragile than most.
affinity = really broken back in standard (hence the banning of artifact lands), out of standard it's just kinda meh.
cascade = lol. do we really have to bring this up again?
skullclamp = too powerful, hence it got banned.
magic is balanced cause wizards can ban/unban certain cards to make the playing field more level. honestly, they are always having a hard time cause of players that just can't be satisfied and who always want the perfect card game ever. you can't please everyone, and as long as there are more people playing than people hating, you're just wasting your time trying to hate on wizards. sometimes, you just gotta play the game and not muck about with the rules.
anyway, the new cards look nice; darksteel axe seems pretty cool with phylactery lich, plus the rat+proliferate ability would look like a fun casual deck. maybe even competitive if wizards would give the cards it needs.
Phyrexian walkers on the north ridge!
Their armor's too strong, Rogue group, use your harpoons and cables!
Phyrexian troops have entered the base, Phyrexian troops have....
Seriously not impressed with Elspeth even in the slightest. Her powers are very narrow and only good in a specific archtype. If anything she seems balanced. The ultimate is ok, but I wasn't overly excited about it.
Whoever said she was good in U/W control, are u serious? Youd like to blow up your own JtMS/Gideon/BSAngel? She's terrible in Control, lol. Thats fine though, aggro decks could use a bit more narrow Planeswalker, and a token aggro deck would be cool for her.
I was really unimpressed with Venser though. Why U/W? Why an aggro power when he is some trick based mage? Why not something neat like bullt in Clone or Vedalken Shackles effect. Lame for Blue.

at least you can refresh your walkers with him if you use up their counters. the second ability looks like something you can use for when you just gotta pump up a few points of damage in some tricky matchups. but he is kinda subpar and out of color with u/w. the last ability is crazy though. opponents are gonna have a hard time choosing to kill him or jace in a u/w deck since venser might suck, but his last ability is real good.
So there are Rumors Koth will Be the strongest? Yey.

~Intelligence is Bliss; Ignorance is Denial.
Skill is an ability that relates more so to the type of deck that's built and how said player pilots it. It also relates to the ability to assess the board and use the cards available to you in the most optimal way relative to each situation.
When a deck is filled with above par cards and every play is solid, there comes a diminishing need to "think" for the lack of wanting to use a better word.
I wouldn't be surprised if he does Shrapnel Blast type effects, or blows up opponent's artifacts or something.
Idc what he does (although that'd be a boss +1/-1 ability), As long as he's 4 cmc. =]

humm.... New Elspeth + 1 Proliferate = ultimate the turn she comes out. That's pretty broken.
It's a board wipe for 5 mana + another required effect as opposed to it's usual 6 mana cost( something like akroma's vengeance ). That's hardly broken.
jitte = kinda imba, but being a legend means it's more fragile than most.

is it wrong for people to play through amazing standard environments and then have to endure garbage 1s and complain?

Lock the game for 3-4 turns to play her. Proliferate or life gain to get to ultimate. Wipe board of threats. Pop out a 3 1/1's and start beating. If they get threats on board again, wipe it and keep your beaters. Absolutely bonkers in control. Jace, Baneslayer, none of those are needed anymore. New Elspeth wins you the game. Absolutely wins you the game, every time, especially since you no longer have pulse or o ring, so your PW removal options went from terrible to horrible.
Anyone who thinks otherwise is going to be proven wrong. She'll be $100 card, easy. UW contraol with nothing but counterspells, bounce, wall of omens, that proliferate flyer, and 4 elspeth. Unbeatable in standard, RDW would have a slght change until they board in the 4 Kor Firewalkers. Thats the #1, tier 1 deck in standard 2 months from now.
This set will completely warp standard. The being said, I think it will be a very, very fun set to draft.
This Elspeth is ... good.
I think Soul Sisters gets a new toy to compensate for losing Soul Warden and Ranger of Eos now. The t1 guy/t2 guy/t3 guy/t4 goldmane/t5 elspeth play is gonna be all sorts of problems.

I've decided that I can't argue with all the people who think the new mox sucks. It does suck. They neutered it just a little too much this time. you should just trade yours to me so that I can start collecting the thing.

The two Elspeths are a great thesis on women in general. When you first meet one, she costs a decent amount to attract, makes you stronger and gives you the feeling that you're flying. She also goes to great lengths to protect her loved ones from harm. After a while, she gets more expensive to maintain, gives birth like a sow, becomes less loyal after doing so, and tops it all off by wrecking crap around the house. Except hers, of course.

Buy me in a booster pack at a store near you. You will receive everything that you see in the picture. Dreg Reaver not included (but can be purchased from Starcitygames at $0.10). Rawwrr.
Elspeth is not broken, she is very well designed. Lets think about it for a while
Control cant abuse her optimally since it has almost no creatures. Now I know someone will mention her ultimatr but think about this: her ultimate is almost the EXACT same thing as Scourglass. They cost the same and wipe out everything but lands and something else. Playing her solely for her ultimate is not going to happen anytime soon, if that was viable, control would have played Scourglass and it didnt.
If you want to get the most out of her ultimate you have to -2 +2 +2 -5 (in nontoken decks of course). Thats 4 turns!
My opinion is that someone will make a very good token deck with her and that she is certainly a beautiful design (much better than Venser). But she wont be an auto include like the last one.
Besides, it's a moxen. To have thought it would be anything other than mythic seemed silly. Flavorwise, things like Moxen, Lotus, Ancestral which are considered reserved terms for special cards/effects, the mythic rarity was made for cards like this.

Drop it on an empty board and it can't die. Beating through three 1/1 creatures backed up by removal is going to be nearly impossible.
