I think people will crap down on this card until they watch their opponent not only drop a huge Eldrazi monster, but then counter their only answer for 0. They'll say "Oh crap", scoop, then post on here about how overpowered Eldrazi are, and how stupid WOTC was to print an Eldrazi flavored Force of Will.
This card is, simply put, loathsome.
The name, the lack of flavor, the conditional part... everything
They really lost the opportunity to made RoE into a monumental set.
We've seen about a third of the set (not counting basic lands); I think it's way too early to pass judgment on the set as a whole.

I have to agree. This post reads as one I'd typically disagree with, but when the answer for something silly comes at a cost of 0 mana...not only is it likely, but it SHOULD happen most of the time. Eldrazi.dec, if already good aggro archetype is now incredibly viable.
great. even more "haha you cant target my big fatty!" crap. this is ridiculous...and the set is making eldrazi almost way to powerful. I hope SoM can offset this.

We've seen less than half the set and already there are some very interesting cards like Wall of Omen, Vengevine, Student, and Channelers... I think this set will be just fine.
I don't think the poster meant interaction between the cards...
Correct, I did not.
Although I haven't seen (or at least don't remember seeing) any CMC matters cards in RoE, you have to imagine that this is part of WotC's thinking here. In other words, WotC doesn't expect you to ever hardcast the thing, so the ridiculous CMC becomes a "bonus" rather than a drawback.
It's dubious design, but the two cards (Scornful Egotist and this) are cut from the same cloth.
I don't see eldrazi.dec being playable but if there is enough support (like this) for it, I don't see why not. You'd usually accelerate and tap out, only to lose to a path to exile. Yes it's a narrow janky card, but it'd probably be a good choice in that deck.
It kills me that all the post make in sounds like this card has no use. You could use Vines but what if your eldrazi deck isn't running green? You could use a regular counter spell but what if your deck isn't running blue?
I'm going to be running black/red eldrazi and a counterspell of any sort sounds good to me. Really lets not look at this in the decks that already have better alternatives.

Eldrazi's aren't bad because they die to removal, they're bad because they cost a million mana. This does not solve that problem and gives you a dead card until you can get one on the board.
i played in a tournament on fridcay. i played affintiy to a sedond place finish. vial lis broken i wonws many games son th3e poever oif it.
Unless i am mistaken Oxidize, V Shaman and E Witness are showing up in just as many decks and warping the metagame as much as Affinity. They should just ban all of Mirrodin block. Onslaught was always the best block ever. I had a U/W Cleric wizard deck that couldnt be beat.
I would run this in EDH. Its -free- and it stops your opponent from altering the board.
Think of this in terms of Wild Mongrel - a card which effectively has "Discard a card: counter target removal spell" since it beats dark banishing / terror / doomblade etc. Wild Mongrel was the #2 creature in standard in its day, because it prevented a trade of a card in hand for a card on the board (which is an ok trade) and forced your opponent to trade a card in their hand for a card in yours (which isn't a good trade, since if you're using your removal its because you'd prefer to alter the board position).
Not of this World creates a scenario in which having it in your deck allows you to threaten a response, even when you're tapped out. It makes targeted removal feel less useful and it makes your fat creatures feel more threatening. In conclusion, I'm gonna get one for each of my EDH decks to trial it out

Wild Mongrel was better renowned for its synergy with Madness cards, whereas this card has synergy with creatures that cost about ten mana each.
huh, this set is so wierd. I dont know what to think of cards like this. It should cost one less for each power of the creature. then i would say its playable. might be good in reanimator or something, Im not even sure of that.

I really don't like this card at all.
I know some people are going to be like 'YEAH I CAN SEARCH IT WITH EYE OF UGIN YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH', but the card is just horrible.
apart from the fact those cards have not exactly that much flavor, I'm not debating about the strenght of Roe (that is nothing compared to ALA set, by the way), I'm complaining about the wasted colorless and eldrazi slots: they could print nightmares and monstruosities from outside time and space, and they waste those slots with this crap? c'mon...
It's just a point of view, I like this card for a casual Eldrazi deck... Yes, if we look at it with an eye on competitive uses, this card sucks orribly, but I still like it, 'cause i can really have some fun playing it
(tutto questo per dire che non tutto va guardato in ottica competitive, anche il casual vuole la sua parte :D)

The Father of Machines will free these creatures from the shackles of their imperfect flesh. All glory to Phyrexia!
This has to be my favorite terrible card of all times. My inner Timmy screams "Woa, free counterspell !", but my brain screams "What an useless card". I want a foil set, the fun thing is that its going to be easy to get.

Yawgmoth, the ruler of Phyrexia, Lord of the Wastes, Father of Machines, is DEAD. He's passed on. He is no more! He has ceased to be! He is expired and gone to meet his maker! He is a stiff! Bereft of life, he rests in peace! He kicked the bucket, He has shuffled off his (apparently)mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisibile!
Ba-zing!
