A more fragile Glory Seeker at rare, with a drawback for all players. In a dedicated Esper deck, is nearly always only a problem for the opponent, where it functions as a Rule of Law. Not going to be a problem for the other player if the first spell they play is Naturalize.
Looks like an enchantment, to me. This was rumoured to cost and a lot of people said it would see play in Standard and Vintage. Now that it's blue, looks like it's mostly just good for Vintage
I suppose Esper decks will absolutely love this. Every card you pay is an artifact, plus your opponent is pretty much locked into one spell a turn. Plus it's flavor text is depressing.
I think for standard (so far), Ethersworn Cannonist is kind of narrow for a use. Unless they put in some good artifact spells. I don't see this being used terribly much.
well, they finally gave in to the thought that an "orb" can't be an enchantment, because it is more of a tangible object, which is what an artifact should personify much more than an enchantment would embody.
functionally, it feels liek it should be an enchantment, but flavor wise, because its a tangible orb, you have to make it an enchantment.
they could have made it not an orb, but that's how they chose to solve their dilemma

Every creature in Esper is an artifact. There will be plenty of decent artifacts in Alara standard.
Canonist can be powerful if the opponent has trouble getting rid of it. Definately fits in an Esper themed deck.

You win target thread. If you aren't Atrius, Atrius wins that thread instead. "Wait, can you actually win a thread?" - Atrius.
Just a note: I'm going through the "Planes Explorer" on the minisite to see if they buried anything there preview wise. There are a LOT of card names and art being revealed though, I suspect. Examples:
Spell Snip
Etherium Sculptor
Vectis(?) Silencers
??? of Jhess
Elspeth, Knight-Errant (knew this, but still)
Esper appears to be the most powerful plane by far. We've also seen the most theme come from it. Weren't there supposed to be enchantments and land themes? Where have those gone off to?
The big thing we gain from Colored Artifacts is Colored Equipment. (Sword of Fire and Ice is NOT a colorless card flavor-wise.) This is a design space area they've needed to unlock for a while now and I'm glad that they've done it.
The Canonist... ya know, even as Esper is built up, more and more it looks like Esper is just feeding Extended Affinity - if Affinity can find room for these newbies (Master, Canonist, and if it officially checks out, the Esper Banneret, Medallion guy). Canonist says "That spell your casting better be for me, because it's the only shot you get this turn."
If you can defend her, she slows them down hard. Definitely wants to be in Mid-Range control I think, as very limited to an artifact-dominant deck.

I love the art work for the canonist, though I'm not sure about White Artifacts. Maybe I need to see it up close.
Blue Artifact. We've seen it before with Futursight, but now that it's 'just' an Artifact and not a creature. I'm waiting to see Maro explain why this isn't an enchantment other than being creative.
Could the Master be a house in Affinity like people are speculating? I'm not sure. Can Affinity handle cards outside it's own block?
A Vintage playable card is cool. The Canonist is lame, even if it ends up good. Just a boring effect. Meh.
Wrong. This card hoses storm decks, gives affinity a reason to play white, and is a bear. There is nothing "boring" about a rule of law effect that is not symmetrical. Well, unless you dying to it, of course.

Nice previews, especially with Ethersworn Canonist. Time to break out my playset of foil Mesmeric Orbs, Howling Mines, and Dreamborn Muses to put the deck back together. To think I actually ran the symmetrical Rule of Law as well.
Holy crap, i just pissed my pants in excitement. Viva la vie Esper. This is going to be a house of sorts, but jeez, this seems to be pushing. The rule of law on legs is going to see a good amount of play. The orb is just going to be a pain in the butt. At the prerelease, you rares:
Tezzeret
Master of Etherium
Mindlock Orb
other search cards
you drop and go to the next flight.

master of etherium note (wasn't it also previewed?):
ability works in all zones
so if you control 3 artifact lands, you can't lark it from the yard?

There really is alot of synergy in this kinda cards.
~Thanks Sb4 at High~Light Studios for the awesome sig.~
Two good cards. Too bad they're not common.
ALSO I want to go back to Portal 2nd Age and get them to include Ethersworn Cannonist <_<
