I dont see it anywhere on the site, I got this from my booster box connection. Nothing huge, but again I dont see it on the site.
Starting with the Lorwyn block, Wizards of the Coast is going to a two set block instead of a three set block. Morningtide is the second set of the Lorwyn block and completes the block. The cards in these sets will still be tournament legal for the same period of time as if they were part of a three block set.
If anyone knows why G0-DRAW was banned I would love it if they would PM me. That guy was pure entertainment 100% of the time. Plus he never publicly responded to his Contraptions "Proof" that never panned out.
Well what this means is that uncommons will be more consistently seen in limited, so I guess they want to put in a few more good commons for limited as well as make the powerful uncommons more readily available in draft.
It kind of makes sense considering that this will be the "3rd set" for draft, and therefore they want to encourage "more variety" by having more commons overall, as well as increasing the consistency of good uncommons.

Right. 15 card packs, 11 are common, 3 are uncommon. With 60 commons and 40 uncommons, that means it'd take almost 6 packs to let you see all the commons (so less 2- and 3-ofs), but it'd take about 13 packs to see all the uncommons. This means a regular 8-man draft has a decent chance of seeing just about any uncommon, but less of a chance of seeing too many multiples of commons. This makes for more consistant uncommons, but more varried commons, which should lead to a better overall limited experience.

Wait a second... 150 cards? it was 165 in planar chaos and guildpact. Probably because of the whole 2+2=4 sets=2 blocks

It makes me slightly worried that WotC keeps pushing draft. This combined with Cashseize and 4- expansion blocks makes me wonder about how comercial the game's getting.
Boy this reminds me of the days of when Ice Age & Alliances were considered "one," same with Mirage & Visions. Weatherlight was just thrown in to complete the block format but it itself did not have much correlation to MiVi at all, except for Sisay's connection.
It'll be interesting to see how this turns out. Judging from the sounds of it there won't be anything inherently new mechanic-wise in Morningtide, just a continuation of what was offered in Lorwyn.
Damn does this ever remind me of Ice Age/Alliances & Mirage/Visions.

Similarly: the game is in no way any more draft-focused than it has been for the last seven years, and four sets per year has been standard for the last five. None of this is new.
Only 150 cards total in Morningtide... something's smells fishy... oh, it's the raw salmon in my fridge. Sets that small don't work out in the long run, look at Homelands and Fallen Empires; which were good for the first month they came out. I have a feeling that the set will be larger than that.
The MSRP for boosters has been $3.99 for like two years now.

Couldn't have said it better myself! The only thing I have noticed recently, is the upbringing of better cards for draft scenario's with the packs. Esspecialy since Timespiral. Its pretty sweet

small sets from stronghold to scourge were 143, are you comparing urza's legacy and homelands because they are similar in size?
I dunno, as a collector (and dealer) I'm fairly certain that
a) there are more cards to get than every before and
b) the game is as limited-focussed and digitally-focussed as it has ever been.
EDIT: An example of "a" is that to get 20 of each rare for my site (hardly many cards at all, since that's only 5 buyers getting playsets of the good cards), it costs me more than $5000 CND. And there's another set coming out in only a couple months...
a) there are more cards to get than every before and
I wouldn't disagree with that.

I don't see this as being true, but, then... I've played almost exclusively Limited (for various and sundry reasons) since around Odyssey, and Ravnica was the block that drove me into a big (albeit temporary) return to constructed decks. I do see the game as being extremely limited focused, occasionally to the detriment of constructed Magic, but I think it's at worst no more so, and at best a little bit less so, than (say) the Onslaught era of the ubiquitous janky 6cc 3/3s and 5cc 2/2s intended solely as late draft picks.
it was a bit much just getting three sets a year, and core every other year. now, it's seems to be getting more flooded. lorwyn, tide, shadowmoor, the set after shadowmoor, and that's just four before the next block starts. the drafts should be pretty interesting.
I hope that prereleases/releases/etc will still stay the same price. Almost 150 for a box, well, it's pretty insane to me. There better be some Tarmogoyfs as uncommons for that price

It seems to me that the fact that they are producing sets faster is ultimatly a marketing decision. I doubt any other department has much to do with it. We should have seen it coming though...the fact that more and more people we have never heard of being hired on the creative teams, no sign that anyone was going to be leaving. They wanted to produce faster, more, better, stronger...or at least so they belive...
Anyways before I rant even further, I don't think the site of Morningtide has anything to do with the above mentioned plan. I think honestly it is just a smaller set, if you take a look in the past at small sets it happens.

uhhhh dude, the MSRP of boosters is currently $3.99, as listed in that post.
Still, other than the amount of cards in the set, there's really no new info here.

How commercial?
To play the game, you have to buy packs with a random distribution of commons, uncommons, and rares.
How much more commercial can you get than that?
Fix'd.
It seems very strange...

Smaller because we have another 301 card set coming up right afterwards.
That is why.
