For those unfamiliar with the combo, you sacrifice Martyr of Sands to gain a lot of life, and you have Proclamation of Rebirth to get him back forever. It was a standard deck during TS/Coldsnap, and I decided to port it to modern:
Usually, you play Scrying Sheets with Snow-Covered Plains as your landbase. But this format looks like it will be pretty fast, so we need some early game protection. ideas?
The idea is basically the same from Gabriel Nassif's 2006 Top 4 Deck at Worlds... Martyr of Sands and Proclamation of Rebirth combo for a ton of life. Now with better wincons outside of having your opponent have 53 turns.
Gabriel Nassif's MartyrTron, is what he's alluding to.
Yes, couldn't remember the name. But he didn't have some of the engines Modern enables, Reveillark. Also perhaps 12post is a better land engine? Does this have a chance of surviving the early game? If so, with what?
Tron engine is just too susceptible to ghost quarter and tec edge. 12 post would likely be better. I think figure of destiny as a one or two of is a better win condition than chronosavant.
I agree with 12post. The thing I'm wondering about is, do we run blue for the extra draw/control, or keep it mono-white to gain more life off of martyr and be more consistent?
I think figure is pretty cool, and the fact that lark/proc can recur it is pretty cute too. I like that idea.
emeria, the sky ruin. Ton/post isn't necessary if you run path to exile, ghost quarters. ect. You just need to find a good way to beat 12 post decks.

In life all we can do is try to make things better. Sitting lost in old ways and fearing change only makes us outdated and ignorant.
Peace cannot be kept by force. It can only be achieved by understanding.

THIS 100X!!! If you don't agree with this then there is no amount of logic that will ever convince you that good, non-oppressive, combos should be allowed. If you don't agree with it then just don't play this game, and you certainly shouldn't feel entitled to make any comment on ban lists ever.

Maybe Ensnaring Bridge in the sideboard? I mean you have a lot of cards in your hand so it's not good against aggro but at least it keeps big gray squids from attacking you...

reveillark is unneccessary, and figure is a pretty dodgy win condition. maybe just have a 1-off emrakul?
the synergy between weathered wayfarer + path is nice
would splashing blue for compulsive research, remand, and azorious signet be better? without card draw the deck seems pretty clunky. rght now the deck just has eleven 1-for-1 removal spells with no card draw.

I'm thinking that too, but I'm unsure as to what blue suite is optimal here. I think figure was considered because it can be recurred with Proc and fetched with Ranger.
I used to run B/W Martyr-tron back when it was legal. You have answers to Emrakul with Wrath, Damnation, DoJ, O-Ring, Journey. I ran black for Teysa, Orzhov Scion, but then again, I was using things like Twilight Drover. Faceless Butcher is also an answer to Emrakul.

I ran a Ranger of Eos/Proclamation of Rebirth deck that was a 1 CMC Control deck. It sucks, but...
Kami of False Hopes is a nice SB card, stole a game or two. Aether Vial can be hilarious in this deck type (turn 1: bird of paradise/noble Hierarch. Turn 2: 2 Aether Vials. Turn 3: Play Ranger of Eos, cheat out 2 creatures).
Obviously, you're not running Ramp, but it's a thought.
but this is more about the martyr of sands combo. other than the counterspells, all the cards are white, and the rangers help you get more martyrs, then you can start forecasting proclamation and gaining tons of life, then land a serra ascendant and go off.
Maybe adding the Urzatron (which is what Nassif did) can help with pulling it off faster, or getting multiple proclamation forecasts per upkeep.

Some utility cards:
4 Weathered Wayfarer
4 Wrath of God
3 Oblivion Ring
4 Path to Exile
4 Runed Halo
2 Figure of Destiny
Lands:
4 Glimmerpost
4 Cloudpost
4 Vesuva
8 Snow Covered Plains
3 Scrying Sheets
2 Flagstones of Trokair

Good point. What do you think is a good way of doing that? Running blue?
You still get annihilated, thus you sacrifice the Halo.
Stuffy Doll blocks for the lulz.
Voidstone Gargoyle?
Twilight Shepard?
idk.
Meddling Mage is better than the Gargoyle, right? Also you can't path emrakul.
And 12 post can play him on what turn? lol Stupid.
EDIT: Oriss, Samite Guardian or Intervention Pact? idk it doesn't seem mono white can deal with post decks easily.

Emrakul seems interesting.
4 Hallowed Fountain
4 Celestial Colonnade
4 Mystic Gate
4 Sacred Foundry
4 Arid Mesa
2 Plains
1 Island
1 Mountain
4 Martyr of Sands
3 Serra Ascendant
4 Ranger of Eos
3 Figure of Destiny
1 Sun Titan
2 Oblivion Ring
3 Lightning Helix
4 Remand
4 Cryptic Command
4 Proclamation of Rebirth
4 Kor Firewalker
1 Dragonmaster Outcast
1 Figure of Destiny
3 Disenchant
3 Wall of Omens
2 Felidar Soverigns
1 Sun Titan
It definitely needs some tinkering, but it can really be effective in an unknown format when most players will just throw Zoo or RDW out there.

EDIT: thanks for the merge.
Seems like an interesting idea! Also you can fetch it back with proclamation, and it stops aggro too! I like it!
I think we need some sort of GY shuffling mechanism like Elixir of Immortality
The 12post is a way better engine in modern. Btw I added your primer to the OP.
