I have thrown around alot of rock based decks using smallpox. I found what I lacked most was a way to finish people off. I can slow them down but I felt I was losing 2 many games that I should not be.
So I have a Cloud/Pox shell that I have been working on.
I don't really want to ramp into a turn 3/4 Garruk/Cloud. EE and Pox allow me that flexibility.
Thoughtseize has been the nuts. Yes, it is TERRIBLE against burn, 1 drop zoo, affinity if not played turn 1 etc....but the decks it shines against to me makes it worth alot more than inquisition. Also, a turn 1 discard spell is not completely neccessary. Pox and Cloud want our opponents to have things on the board that we can wipe away...Cards like Cryptic command and birthing pod are cards I would rather not see against me.
I think my average card cost is something like 2.4. trinisphere is a card that has just won me games. I don't think I will leave my s/b without it.
In case I didn't tell you, I don't care about your opinion I just want your facts. And not the facts that make you seem smart. I want the ones that are actual facts.
Anyone played with Sorin, Lord of Innistrad? Im running him in a deck based of the Philly PTQ Antonio's Death Cloud list.
He brings a whole new element to the deck. In my last game, I stalled out a Jund player with the Vamp tokens long enough for Death Cloud to go to the dome for lethal. It killed him but not me thanks to the lifelinked health.
I've tried Sorin, I ditched him pretty quickly. He just didn't do enough. Dead against combo, too slow against affinity. Occassionally he was sweet but garruk and damnation just do so much more and I only had so much space in the 4 mana slot. He was great against midrange decks like Jund but if you you want to beat Jund try obstinate baloth If your meta is full of fair decks he seems pretty good.
Hi everybody. Long time lurker, first time poster. Death Cloud has been one of my favorite finishers since it was standard legal, and GB has been one of my favorite color combinations since spiritmonger and pernicious deed. (and probably some horrible jank with craw giant and catacomb dragon before that lol)
Unfortunately, i moved to a different state a few months ago, so dont have many friends to playtest with yet. There's not really a modern meta in my area until my lgs starts up a weekly tourney in a few weeks, so I've just been playtesting with this build here and there where I can for the last 6 months or so. it's heavily influenced by lists I've seen from Poopinmypants and Lectrys in this here thread(thanks for ideas btw). Hoping to play in GP Chicago next month, so any feedback anyone has would be awesome. here's the list.
Basically, disrupt, stall and ramp into a planeswalker in the early game, then protect said planeswalker and win with either a Garruk spiritbomb on some spirit tokens/manlands/finks and/or a big Cloud. Seems kinda loose against a lot of decks in the meta, but it's hella fun to run so there ya go haha.

Yeah, thanks for some good ideas, someone's gotta brew.
So I think 6 is the right number for MD discard spells vs most decks(but here's hoping for a functional reprint of gerrard's verdict in Garecrash lol).
What have been your problematic matchups, Pooping? I feel like game 1 vs Tron is not great, as we have quite a few dead cards against them, and pulse is really my only way of dealing with a resolved Karn. Post board, Duress replaces IoK and Surgicals replace C//P and Abrupt Decay so it gets a bit better. I was thinking about trying to squeeze one more Cloud into the board for that matchup(I was running 3 main but cut 1 for an Abrupt Decay), but what to take out?
Also what do you think of our Jund matchup? With quite a few chump blockers and a good amount of discard, I think we have a chance of stabilizing into a Cloud ftw considering Bob and their manabase take quite a chunk out of their life total usually. I took out the 2 Obstinate Baloth from the board for 2 Thragtusk, but haven't really got a chance to test him yet. Do you think he's too slow? obv he doesn't have the other "obstinate" ability, but we have the ability to legend rule Lili if need be as well as Pulse/Decay her before she makes us discard too much, and not too many people are running Blightning(unless Ceddy's list takes off, which it just may lol)
So idk, I'm itching for some playtesting but prob won't have the opportunity for a week or so. I'll post any match results. any thoughts/advice til then would be super appreciated.

Well Tron isn't that bad of a match-up. If you just focus on stopping Karn the match-up is way better.
Obstinate is very good versus Jund. Though the issue with Jund is that they play our game, but slightly better. Jund is a better deck in this meta and just plays too hard against what a Death Cloud player wants to do. Sadly your not going to make that or the Fae match-ups any better.

I've been considering Death Cloud for over a year now. Always been a dedicated Martyr-Proc player, but lately I've considered shelving it. Too inconsistent, focuses on top-deck's too much, and main strategy can be bonkers at times. Currently running Faeries, but I'm having my doubts about it as well.
Now that cards like Abrupt Decay and Overgrown Tomb are avaible with easy access, I might give Death Cloud a shot.
The only thing, I won't buy 'Goyf's. I think the only way I ever could is if my next Tax-Return next year is massive. For now, here's what I'm considering:

I would recommend more planeswalkers. I usually run at least 6. And with that many Smallpox effects you need a solid recursion threat. If you give me a bit I will work out a Smallpox based list. Something more akin to Legacy Pox with Death Cloud as the Pox replacement. Replacing Villages with Mutavault so you can recur a certain Zombie.
Oh and Goyf has never been that good in this deck.

Thanks homie. You seem like the master of ze Cloud. Are you a fan of making it Junk colors? The addition of Lingering Souls does seem solid when you have a deck full of Liliana of the Veil and Garruk Wildspeaker. Between discarding it, and then making 4/4 flying trampler's, I just can't resist the addition of white. White has some of the best cards when it comes to control, including Path to Exile and Obliviong Ring. Since 'Goyf isn't a good finisher, is Knight of the Reliquary suitable? It fixes mana, grab's man-lands, and I would assume he's never smaller than a 6/6 in the late game...
Opinions? I'm going to try and proxy up both these lists, but I definitely need some testing and feedback before I go spend my next paycheck on finishing the deck 8)
Wasn't sure how I felt about Elspeth, Knight-Errant in this build so I left her out. I also love Thragtusk. Him VS Knight?? Both 'tusk and Finks provide life-gain and are 2-for-1. Eternal Witness is also a card I've been fond of ever since her printing, but does she fit the curve well? Figured both her and Life from the Loam go well with Liliana.
Also cut Sakura-Tribe Elder. He's good at fixing mana, but between all the shock and fetch lands, I figured I would be fine without him.

Damnation would make certain aggro match-ups a lot easier. Like I said I am going to update a list and get it out there for people to see. I just haven't had time lately.
And yes White is a great addition to the deck.

What do we think of Garruk Relentless in this deck? Same cost as Garruk Wildspeaker and it allows small creature removal and a steady stream of creatures pre or post-death cloud.
So I went ahead and updated my Death Cloud list with RTR. I removed white and went with a good old fashioned B/G list. Deathrite Shaman is the stone cold nuts in this meta.
In case I didn't tell you, I don't care about your opinion I just want your facts. And not the facts that make you seem smart. I want the ones that are actual facts.
Death Cloud is the real deal. Seems to be testing well the few matches I've tried.
Played at a GPT last weekend with my signature Martyr-Proc. I was 4th place after round 4, and in round 5, before top 8 swiss, I was paired against my friend who has been playing Death Cloud for a long time.
He ended up getting 1st place, beating RG Tron in the semi-finals and Jund in the finals.
hey ive just tried this list out for a couple of games and i was wondering if anyone else has had problems with UG infect, I just got chalcie with 1 counter in play but i still couldn't beat inkmoth nexus was i just unlucky or is there somehting else i should put it?
With that list, your only real option is to death cloud them for their board in order to beat that inkmoth nexus. You could theoretically golgari charm in first mode after activation in response to any pump, but they can just cast another pump in response to it. All of your creature removal doesn't hit lands or is sorcery speed, so it'll always be an uphill battle unless you hit them *really* early with a clock.
