It really shines with ways to untap it so you can get real value. Rings of Brighthearth is good Deserted Temple is also good. Any of the random creatures that can untap a land can be good with it too.
For a cutthroat deck it is far too slow. In slower metagames it's a great source of card advantage, particularly if you can combine it with Rings or land untappers. I particularly like using it with Stone-seeder Hierophant, which allows you to pull every basic out of your deck for 1 each.

I used to play it in my mono-R and mono-B lists, but since acquiring my four black fetches and three red fetches, I find those a bit faster for my own needs(as I play Crucible of Worlds to replay them as needed).
It is absolutely phenomenal in a slower control deck though. Or even some deck build on landfall. Azusa, Lost But Seeking, seems like a prominent home for it as it's slow drawback is somewhat mitigated by Azusa's super-ramp ability..
In multiplayer, and with a deck that needs mana, it can do a lot of work. However, as everyone has mentioned it is slow as dirt. In my Dakkon deck I am literally never sad to see it, but he likes that kind of thing.

It does wonders for decks that don't like to come out of the gate with guns ablazin' and can allow you to cut a land for another spell. In more aggressive lists that like to take the initiative, look elsewhere.
The general consensus here is how I feel about it. It's terrible if you're interested in speed and great if you would rather hit all of your land drops. It's wonderful in my Jaya list because I'm playing the long game with that deck. Hitting land drops goes a long way in a more controlling deck.
Is has the extra advantage of giving me something to discard late game, but that's a pretty narrow use for it.

I'm not familiar with this card. How useful is it? Does it slow you down too much using it?
But later in the game it ensures a landdrop every turn.
