I would have to choose Maro, Forsythe, and Garfield for sure. Beyond that there are only few players I would have any interest in playing with. Gabriel Nassif has always seemed pretty cool to me and I wouldn't mind playing a few with him. Patrick Chapin is another player that seems cool. He lives local, I just don't go out to his card shop very often, so I guess I possibly could cube with him if I tried. I also wouldn't mind cubing with DerBK. I am a fan of DerBK's cube ideas and I think he would add to the value of table talk. The last seat would go to a friend, so I would have some one to enjoy the experience with.
Ok, simple question, you sit down at a round table with 7 other seats with your cube. Who would you like to fill those slots?
What is your magic dream team so to speak.
My first thought was to put some of the best pro players in history down, but then I realized they might not be fun in a cube's more casual format (plus I wouldn't win much). So, I'm gonna say:
My Brother Phil ... part way there!
Richard Garfield
MaRo
Evan Erwin
Vin Diesel (Buddy was in a D&D group with him).
George W. Bush (The only world leader I wouldn't be intimidated by and he might be fun slinging cardboard)
My Wife (this ones never gonna happen:rolleyes:)
Assuming they know the magic rules, I would like to draft with these 7 guys: Barack Obama - I would like to play some 2hg with him as my team-mate. I actually think he would be good at magic, and would like to give him my advise on how he should run the US of A. Bill Gates - The true leader of "the free world" and "god's own country". As a fellow programmer I would like some advise, but I would also like to woop his ass. So it's both to play with and against him, I would like him on the table. Steve Jobs - Now with this guy on the same table as Bill things would start to turn interesting. I like his marketing strategy and his products a lot, and would also like some friendly "it-man to it-man advice", from one of the best in the business. Pope Benedict XVI - In a game of magic you can always use some divine intervention. This guy could help spice the game a little up. Especially in the same room as the next guy on the list. Osama Bin Laden - I would like a civil discussion (if that's possible) with this guy. Not to judge him or anything, but just to hear his reasons for doing what he does, from his own mouth. George Bush Jr. - I would like to point a lightning bolt at his face and say gotcha. Hu Jintao - As General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, this guy could bring some big plans and strategies to the table. As the leader of the country that will be the worlds leading country in the time to come, it would be interesting to hear his plans and ideas for the upcoming time.
7 of you guys who are reading this because you spend quite some time in the cube forum, in order to improve your own cube by sharing ideas, thoughts and experiences. There are a lot of interesting people and great magic players in the world, but who can match the love for cube better than fellow cube owners?
Tomoharu Saitou : Not only because i allready cubed with him in paris last year, but also because he is my main japanese card dealer, and because i really love him as a player, he is such a nice guy
remi Fortier : Allready cubed several times together, and he is one of my favorite constructed player
Tom Lapille and Maro : would be my 2 R&D team picks, particuliary Tom because he is the one that made me start my cube, and Maro to show him what cards we need as a Cube owner
Richard Garfeild : Because he created the game (and i heard he need to improve in Magic :p)
David Williams : My pimp touch, someone i really like as a magic player, nad even more as a Poker player
Gavriel Nassif : My favorite magic pro-player, and certainly one of the best in magic history.
Ok, simple question, you sit down at a round table with 7 other seats with your cube. Who would you like to fill those slots?
I think I prefer random 16 or 14 people to only eight.
Good qualities in a player:
Interesting to talk with (about cube and magic mostly, but not restricted to), preferably someone I know for some time, plays fair, is innovative and tries new decks in his draft, doesn't stall, doesn't complain much, offers help when needed, is able to come to drafts often and stay until it ends, pays his entry fee, preferably is drafting decks that no one else at the table does and gets well with everyone else.
That seems nearly optimal. Did I forget something?
If we limit ourselves to famous personnel in the magic scene I'd not choose famous pro-tour players because a lot of the local pros already cube or have cubed with our group. I'd choose the game's most famous designers too : Richard Garfield, Mark Rosewater and Aaron Forsythe; another cube owner or two from different countries (preferrably large cube owners too); maybe Evan Erwin just to change a bit of his view on cube which could result in a wider change to everyone who copies his list and the last slot is open for now.
1. Evin Erwin
2. Tom LaPille
3. Aaron Forsythe
4. wtwlf
5. calibretto
6. silent edge
7. Tori Amos (any excuse to meet her)
No offense meant to others on this forum. I just find myself most often agreeing with wtwlf, calibretto, and silent edge, so I'd want to meet them and get a chance to sling some cardboard.
I'd like to Cube with anyone from the Cube forum really. We have a good sub-community going on here and I'd relish the opportunity to actually play MtG with people other than my partner!
1. Evan Erwin: I'm not gonna lie, its how my interest in the format peaked.
2. wtwlf123: Because he's a fellow Arizonan and because (see #3)...
3. Metamind: I want to see he and wtwlf123 duke it out in person (not physically of course).
4. Ed Beard Jr.: So I can draw a moustache on my Psychatog in front of him.
5. Jon Finkel: Because he is Jon Finkel.
6. Dallas Green: A personal idol of mine.
7. Optimus Prime: Just so when we are done he can say, "put the cube into my chest" and we will all have a laugh, then I can drive home in him.
On a seperate but equally important issue: 1,000th post!!! Woot!

I want people who love cube so much they will discuss it endlessly. I'm sure the enormous amount of feedback would cause my head to expode but it'd still be totally worth it.

Nice list, though I would point out that actively seeking those who disagree with you can potentially provide so much more in viable feedback. Seeing other opinions, in action in pick choices, and discussing a contrary view is something that has always benefitted me more.
Of course, one could argue that I'd just been wrong more often but I'd like to think that being challenged to defend my perspective (and testing it and opposing views in action in cube draft) has not only improved my cube but helped strengthen my ability to review cards and make plays. (I'm not going 0-3, 0-4 in Limited events anymore... though I've still got a lot to learn.)
Honestly though, I'd just be happy to meet other cube players who are earnestly excited about a Pauper cube with a heavy multicolor and Limited focus. I'm convinced that I exist alone in a niche that's just too small.
Yes. A thousand times yes. They lured me in with Ivory Tower and Zuran Orb, and I kept telling myself "I can quit whenever I want...just look at that untapped disk". That was ten years ago man.....

I agree about the disagreement thing, too. I'd be happy cubing with anyone on this list. No doubt.
I'd be very excited to play a pauper cube with a heavy multicolor focus. It sounds like a blast. It isn't how I want my cube to be, but the great thing about cube is that you can build the cube you want.
I would love a chance to cube with some fellow enthusiasts. I would hesitate to invite pros, as they would destroy me, and probably not teach me any drafting lessons (in fact they might convince me that cards that are not really good are in fact good just by playing them really well). I wouldn't mind playing with some limited experts and deckbuilding masters to try to gleam some insight.
Most of all I just like playing with competitive people who like magic and are fun. I like playing to win. I like arguing over cards and builds and strategies and crap 99.999% of the population wouldn't understand or even care about if they did. And I get the feeling most of you do too.
If they don't cube that much nowadays, I'd probably choose to cube with the people from Ontario who created the concept of the cube, so I could see how their views of it would be.
If not, I'd probably choose the R&D group at Wizards, to see their viewpoint from a development POV.
If people are interested, I'd host Cubecon, there's multiple different locations in Champaign I could use. Would probably be held summerish of 2010 if we did it. No need to argue what cube is used, we can draft multiple cubes. Who else would want to do this?

I use to play legacy tourneys at the college in Champaign. I would be all for using some play in the mid west for one of these tourneys. That way its not too far from anyone (in the US). I think in reality though it would be best to do something like this at a Grand Prix or Pro Tour, thay way we can piggy back on the larger tourney.
