I am a lucky player in general. People get mad in real life because I always draw perfect when I need to. I punt enough that it ends up evening out. This is not to discuss luck. This thread is to discuss the people that complain on mtgo. I'm sure there have been many threads on this.
Online I am still lucky. The shuffler loves me and I draw out of many problems more often that I should. 90% of people are sore losers when they get beat. Rarely do people not complain. I try to be a reasonable person, and I (almost) never respond rudely if I even do respond (you don't know if they had a bad day or whatever.)
Tonight I was playing a random person in the casual room and it's a mildly exciting game. We are both playing creatures and eventually he plays a Mindslicer and I block it with a Loxodon Heirarch and we both discard our hands (both 4 cards). I draw for the turn and it is a Sword of Light and Shadow (cause I'm a pro) I tap out and play/equip it to a creature of mine. Here is the conversation (with me editing his grammar):
~: That's crap.
Me: For you. (This doesn't seem unduly rude. It isn't nice but it isn't mean.)
~: That's crap.
~: Say it again.
~: I dare you.
Me: Um... What?
~: Go on you ignorant player,
~: I dare
~: you.
~: Say it 1 more time. (At this point I was over the conversation. I wasn't going to say anything else until he said:
~: Or apologize.
~: Your choice. (To which I replied, in all my wit and humor:
Me: Suck it,
Me: Fatboy. (I thought this was funny but uncalled for.)
~: And now you'll pay.
I know that I wasn't extremely mature in this interaction, but he seemed to take it way over the top.
Have you noticed this rudeness? Why are people this rude? Is there a reasonable solution to this problem? What would you have done?
you probably should have stayed in a more cool and collected place. As it is now, he can... and based on his statement (which is all I have to go on here)... probably will, report you for poor sportsmanship.

Seems to me you missed out on a great trolling opportunity. You can get people like this all kinds of frustrated. You should have apologized.... for being such an AWESOME deck builder that results in such winning scenarios. It's like playing Shahrazad except the subgame is how angry you can get your opponent without direcly insulting them or losing your cool.

A few things here:
1) Your second response didn't exactly establish the paradigm for calm, cool, collected and polite. It seems somewhat hypocritical, therefore, to post about how rude people are.
2) Internet anonymity means you can do, say or be what ever/whoever you like. Trolls will take advantage of this.
2b) It's the internet. It's not real. Anyone can get on MTGO and be unrestricted by normal societal bounds or the standards of a face-to-face interaction.

You are right, this Me guy is a total douche. I hate players like that that talk trash.
I'm not kidding by the way. If I was to assign fault in this it'd be to Me.
If I was to sign overreaction it would be to ~.
Most people will gripe about you playing Mindslicers and Swords in the casual room regardless of how you acted. I doubt you rarely say something. All the wit and social awareness of the Simpson's Comic Book Guy. Maybe this is your wake up call.
It's the casual room, you can play anything you want. Just cause your playing for fun, doesn't mean you can't play a good deck. But you should have layed off, the Fatboy thing was a little over the top. There's rude people everywhere, the best solution is to not be one yourself.
I believe I've never typed a single word during a MTGO game. And if any opponent of mine has ever typed something, I didn't saw it. That's the beauty of MTGO compared to something like MWS.
Anyway, it seems like your opponent was kinda of joking, while you're taking him seriously.

I rolled 5 D6's and got 3 fours. They must have changed the odds of getting a 4!
This is quite enough. I don't tolerate that kind of behavior pointing out other user's stupidity from the MWS users, and the MTGO users aren't going to get away with it either. Nice of you to delete his name, but still. Posting it, even if you weren't pretty rude yourself, is completely inappropriate.

he can get in trouble for those things, but, you can get in even more trouble for telling him to "suck it", and calling him a "fatboy"
