We're lagging together,
His connectection just fell
And maybe he'll come back,
To lose, who can tell?
I guess there is no one to blame
We're sitting around
Will games ever finish again?
It's the final countdown...
bababa ba
baba ba ba ba
baba ba ba ba
baba babababa ba
We're heading for V3 and Wizards holds the ball
Cause maybe they'll finish and games for us all
With so many light years to go and sitting around
I'm sure that its not so slow.
It's the final countdown...
bababa ba
baba ba ba ba

Sorry, couldn't resist
At this rate they will have to release morningtide on 2.5
Launching without leagues and multiplayer and not having them at all are two different things entirely...
And you forget that the V3 server structure is much much better, and with less worry on stability, they can fix many of the constant underlying issues that you mentioned.
The V3 server structure has not really been tested either way.
It ought to be better, but nobody actually knows, and it would be rash to assume they have been successful in this area, given the record so far.
As for them being able to add stuff after launch, I have no doubt whatsoever that they intend to add all sorts, inlcuding all the missing stuff and a whole bunch more.
I just wouldn't be confident that it is going to happen in any reasonable timeframe.
While I'm sure the mtgo team are doing everything they can, I don't think wotc as a whole take mtgo very seriously at all, this is something we have to accept and live with, or give up on mtgo.
Just an update that, from the WotC website, "we should be off hold fairly soon".
The V3 server structure has not really been tested either way.
For reference (just for the people watching the thread), the largest public test to this point was about 2 months ago, with a little under 1000 concurrent users joined by a contingent of WotC's automatic load-testing bots.
It ought to be better, but nobody actually knows, and it would be rash to assume they have been successful in this area, given the record so far.
This isn't too fair of a statement.
As has been said many times already, the problem with the current version of MODO is the code. (Which was written by Leaping Lizards, who left the project years upon years ago, leaving the mess in the lap of WoTC) No amount of hardware could fix how the software was coded. They had to start from scratch and fix the way the server structure or whatever was written in the code.

I wasn't clear - I meant the record of devloping v3, rather than the record of v2 stability.
I don't disagree that they had to start from scratch. I just don't think that wotc have ever taken the v3 project seriously enough or given it the resources it needs.
I assume the individuals working on it have, but that only gets you so far.
- Countdown restarted, moved up to 17 days.
- Assuming no further delays...
- - 01/31 (T-15): New leagues will spawn.
- - 02/07 (T-08): v2.5 taken down.
- - 02/15 (T-01): v3.0 brought online. Will be under beta-test conditions and be an internal final test. Some regular beta-testers should be able to get online at some portion during the day.
- - 02/16 (T-00): v3.0 available for all users.
- Some v3 features will intermittently be unavailable during the first few weeks while functionality is refined under load.
- Timer can still stop, but should only be for a couple days.

Hi everyone,
We've been waiting a long time for the day Magic Online III becomes reality, and it's almost here. In a few short days we will be turning off our current MOL system, v2.5 and going "dark" for a week or so while we migrate all of your user data, card collections, and such over to our new database in preparation for the launch of the system. When the timer gets to a specific number of days remaining, there are some events that are going to affect you all, so I wanted to illustrate what you can all expect in the coming weeks.
In the past few weeks while the timer has been on pause, we've made a couple small changes to our internal launch checklist, moving days around here and there, and extracting a small bit of time from the remaining countdown in the process.
We are going to resume the timer at L-17 today, and it will decrement to L-16 with the nightly web update at 9PM PST this evening, and proceed from there.
When the countdown timer reads:
L-17 (today): A new build will be pushed out and the community at large will be encouraged to join our open public beta. You can simply download the new client and go through the standard account creation process to make a new account OR use your current v2.5 account login/password. Accounts from 2.5 that have been created in the last 21 days may need to go through the new account process to get into the client. Keep in mind that the main function of the beta is to assist the developers and QA in finding remaining issues, and the availability of the new system may be up and down, as we need. We could really use everyone's help in testing the new Premier Events especially, so please log on and play with the new stuff! We have tentatively scheduled a "stress test" on Thursday January 31st at 2pm-6pm PST. We'd love it if you could make it!
L- 15: No new leagues will be created within the client. All currently running leagues will be allowed to run their natural course and conclude on schedule. This is to make sure we don't have any open events during the transition and data migration period. Leagues are *not* going to be available with the launch of Magic Online III, but they (and multiplayer) are among our first priorities to finish up once we've stabilized all issues from the post launch period. They *will* be back, and soon. We miss them as much as you do!
L- 8: We shut down the current v2.5 system. Players will not be able to log in for at least a week (see the next launch date underneath this one for more info). During this time, we will be transferring and backing up all existing data from current accounts and collections to the new servers where they will be stored and accessed when Magic Online III is up and running. Don't worry, you won't lose any of the cards in your collection. Everything from your collection will be there when you load up the MOL III client for the first time. See the coming FAQ next week for more information here.
L-1 to L-0: For up to the first couple days after we complete data migration and a whole host of other tasks and turn the system back on at L- 1, we will have the system up for internal use only. We will work hard to minimize the amount of time this takes. We may allow certain beta testers access to the system during this time period as well, we will contact you if we feel we need more people testing specific functions during this time. It is likely that at L-0 the system will come online for general public use.
Also, during the time period in the days immediately following launch, it is very likely that specific parts of the system will be unavailable or available intermittently as we slowly turn on pieces of functionality one or two at a time. Right now, we expect casual play to be on as a default, with PE's and draft queues to be cycled into rotation as stability allows within the first few days to a week.
There are still events in front of us that can cause a pause in the timer from now until launch, but we feel like we've got a very good handle on the next few weeks and don't expect any more delays to last more than a day or two.
That's it! We're definitely on the home stretch now, and we all sincerely appreciate the patience you've all shown in the last few years with an aging and degrading system. Now that we have an entire company's worth of resources and focus on making one platform the best it can possibly be, I'm confidant that sometime soon MOL will be better than ever, with new players coming in by the hundreds and thousands. With the capability that Magic Online III gives us to expand our offerings, streamline your play experience, and present Magic in the best possible light, I look forward to the many years of fun, strategy, and growth that lie ahead of us for the world's first and best TCG.
Well currently, in its 2.5 state, MODO bugs out on dual core processors, since it is unable to connect the processing between the two processors. Therefore, you have to manually download the patch.
Oh. In terms of v3, it doesn't have any of the problems v2 has in terms of dual-core or Vista. Patches load fine, and the program doesn't need additional work to get running.
Does anyone know if it will support dual core processors, for the purpose of patch downloading?
I hope so!
I was pissed that all the timeout crap was because of the dual-core architecture of my CPU...that's kind of a big deal, especially with more dual-core laptops & desktops being pushed at lower prices for the coming of 64-bit processing (about time!).
Any hope that this UI will be easier and more intuitive? Still my biggest turnoff in online magic.
Another stall; looks to be for at least a week. According to info on WotC's side, it's related to some unforeseen situations due to heavy user load*.
*Note that on this beta, odds are they're running close to the minimum necessary number of servers, so this is very plausable to have issues with at 250 users + bots.
The server's been down for 25+ minutes now...this being much longer than the crashes I normally experience with MTGO outside of release events, has WotC brought down the server early? Or is it just the lightning storm outside, which I doubt since I'm able to post this...
Crashes have lasted 3-4 hours sometimes, depending on what caused the crash. v2 not being available when I'm posting this right now probably means it's a repeated crash or that the issue is one that is also preventing v2 from being able to come back up.
After all this time, and it's still only barely useable?
His connectection just fell
And maybe he'll come back,
To lose, who can tell?
I guess there is no one to blame

You'll be pleased to know the new UI is even harder to use.
I am really disappointed that they didn't improve the UI after all the heaps of feedback they got on the trainwreck that is the 3.0 UI.
*Note that on this beta, odds are they're running close to the minimum necessary number of servers, so this is very plausable to have issues with at 250 users + bots.

Cliff notes is simple today: if v3 is internally accepted build-wise, v2 comes down this Wednesday.

o.O holy crap. I could say I didn't see that coming.
on the other hand....when they announce later tonight that is being delayed for another month, I WON"T be suprised.
mwahahaaa....V3 will forever stay in my closet. None shall pass!!
but seriously, this is good, considering that my v2 is not even working now.
God help us all
Happy news, though.

In short, v2 isn't down for good until tomorrow.
