Thanks Quazi, for that list. Maybe I can make your sig too, and get a few more lists out of you
Anywho! I made a new list for Vial Affinity, I was wondering myself WHY it took so long for me to put that up too..
Also - for the deck descriptions: Can the people who play the decks send me a PM on how the decks work? I know how Goblins, Merfolk, Vial Affinity, Naya Zoo, and Burn work, because these are decks I've already played with. If the people who play the decks I DONT know want to give me some key cards that make the deck work, and some general deckplaying tips would be FANTASTIC. Plus you get credit too
I would not stick my nose in this particular bit of business except that I think it has pretty big consequences. Every Stax deck I have faced for at least 6 months has played Moat+Humility. I know this because the difference is staggering. The list Quazi posted, I can expect to beat most of the time with Death and Taxes. The Humility+Moat builds are hard for me that I don't really have a strategy for winning that I can count on. The difference in price is probably $500.00, so it bears mentioning.
$639.89 on MOTL for the >$1 cards. The rest are all under $1, so a total of about $645 if you buy at eBay average.
Wow i wish i could find dual lands in my area for those prices. Just on the weekend a store was going to sell plateaus for 30 and i said i would buy one he then called his boss and after 10 minutes of talking he said the price went up to 50. Needless to say i did not buy it.
Yeah, stores are trash for prices in most cases. I tend to buy all expensive singles on the forums here or on eBay, it's much cheaper.

Legacy: Domain Zoo, RGW Zoo, Merfolk, Solidarity, Mono Black Aggro
EDH: Kagemaro, First to Suffer
Yea, I just priced my Eva Green list, and it came to about $1,100+
Might want to update that. Plus, Putrid Leech is kind of proven to not be as good of a choice as most people thought. That and Maelstrom Pulse has been added to most lists, too.
But yea, Eva Green costs WAY more than $600-$700.

The price of card have risen as of late. A couple of months ago my Landstill deck would have cost me about $650 using Starcitygames as a benchmark. Now it would cost my well over $1000.
I know SCG doesn't have the best prices but it kind of gives an idea of how the prices are going up for Legacy staples.

Will they go back down again? Are the prices high because of something I missed. I mean the economy isn't good so the prices should be lower. (Not that Magic Cards follow current economic situations) But is there an influx of tournaments. I guess people are getting more and more into legacy. But will the prices drop down again? Or is this a permanent thing that we will just have to deal with.

This can be it's own thread but I can answer it to a degree. I'm told it's major vendors that jack up the price and create pseudo demand. Sometimes, yes, people make runs on specific hard to obtain cards -- but other times, it's the speculation that's driving card prices through the roof.
If you base your prices off online vendors, then YES, mtg has seen a HUGE increase in legacy prices but if you visit a store, prices have not gone up that much.
Also, it seems the key staples like duals, forces, vials, tops, standstills, etc are the main thing that's shooting up. I've seen stuff like STP and PTE fall in price irl. Other cards (think merfolks minus the expensive stuff) has stayed roughly the same in price...possibly dipped. Again, if you look at just online prices, you may see otherwise, but it's tied to a few main vendors you-know-what-ing with the price.
To tell you the truth, if Goyf deflates back to ~40-50 bucks, I'd be happy. He's already come down from the ridiculous spike of 100/per that was a month or two ago. I would estimate by summer 2010 prices will be 'elevated' but not extremely high as this past winter. Older cards like Tabernacle and Imperial Recruiter I unfortunately believe will only rise. Force of Will is its own situation...for those of us who have it, we're just very fortunate.

I mean, hell, we're all on a forum for something that most people would describe as a "children's card game"...do what makes you happy. You are never too old to enjoy yourself.
Regarding the price speculation deal. I saw a few weeks ago after the Eldrazi began to be spoiled that someone talked about some old Timespiral card in his column that could be used to cheat the Eldrazi into play. I looked the card up on ebay and it was going for $1 a piece. The very next day the card was jacked up in price to $5 a piece. The card was Jhoira of the Ghitu. The combo" he pondered is ridiculously slow. To even attempt to play it in a Legacy game, in my opinion, would be asking for a loss. Sure, it's a nice casual gaming trick, but who would play that in a serious deck? I've been thinking more and more that price speculation is driving a lot of prices to unreasonable levels, particularly when that card is only run in a very specific Vintage or Legacy deck. Do I think Tarmogoyf is a bit overpriced? Absolutely. I got my playset less than a year ago for $80. Would I pay close to $100 a piece for them today? HELL NO!!!

I just bought my playset of Goyf's recently. I felt disgusted with the situation. I sold a crap load of old cards I never use anymore to blackborder. I got $300 for them. I got store credit and immediately bought 3 Goyf's and a Bayou. Luckily my friend sold me the 4th Goyf for only $40 and some pizza, lol. But still to make my point. $300 got me only 4 legacy staples. That's insane. But on the bright side, I'll never have to do that again...I hope.

haha, oh thank god I bought all the stuff for Stax back a few years ago, Diamonds half the price, cities for $3 a pop, smokestacks for 5, And 4 chalices for $6 total when they FIRST came out. And I hope a lot of people here realize that once you have set of FoW, most of those decks drop by $200, and 'Goyfs (btw, that person he is killing in the card art is every individual that missed the $20 Tarmogoyf train) make the decks drop another $320. Imma pick up my forces soon, before they just get more expensive. They arent going to get reprinted, same with Diamond.
I am still hoping that Wizards will actually stay true to what they said that most of the futureshifted cards will be reprinted within 5 years (PLEASE wizards, if you have any sense of mercy, help us)

EDH/Commander is a social format, right? So why don't people use their social skills to discuss what they like and don't like, instead of adopting a list with 60+ banned cards?
Has it ever been like this before? I assumed the likes of the dual lands, FoW and LED are staying where they are and eventually going up again, not back down.
Tarmagoyf will go back down I'm sure. Extended season is over isn't it? Usually goes down when it is.
Sorry, but I'd never realized the price of cards has gone up so much recently...
I've been playing magic since 2 weeks before Weatherlight was released, and I'd used to be on the old magic message boards talking to players about changing 1.5 or creating a 1.75, then wizards/dci created fixed 1.5 (Legacy).
Then I stoped playing about 2 years ago... (Typical long story)
getting back into the game again is a little fun and unexpected.
I'd remember picking up The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale and the rest of the Legands Lands as a lot set for 30 dollars on ebay, in my attempt in building my Legends collection. Although I'd thought the Tabernacle could be a good card in Legacy I'd didnt expect seeing a 300+ dollars on this card although being a parttime collector I'm quite happy as well i'm happy to see dual and Force reaching a respected pricetag (gee for years duals were 10 dollars a pop)
Although I dont understand the price on Tarmogoyf... Its a very recent card and it doesnt make any sense unless wizards screwed up the release set or something, gee Morphling in its hayday (Extended) never cost more then 20 dollars. Is Tarmogoyf really on demand???
He is the most "powerful" creature in magic. Everyone wants him.
Top cards used in Legacy (from deckcheck.net):
1. Force of Will
2. Brainstorm
3. Island
4. Wasteland
5. Tarmogoyf
He has also averaged about the 5th mosted used card in Extended since release (most used creature).
I'm hoping though that with extended season being done, he will go back down to at least $30 and if I'm lucky, lower. He went down to about $25 last year. But, I have never seen him this high before. I don't remember standard prices though.
