Degenerate? Sure. Loudmouth? You bet. Law abiding? No ****ing way.
Thanks! Hound is such a pet card of mine, I try to shove it in any deck I can. But after making those changes it's already goldfishing much more smoothly and consistently (of course, Silverheart was the big reach). Thanks again.
The fact it's playable in Legacy means that the card is a powerful card and has great potential.
Are we playing the same Legacy? There's tons of lame duck cards that get played in Legacy. Why? Because the deck wants to fit its niche so badly that it plays subpar cards to make up for the fact that better ones don't exist. Vexing Devil is just a worse Firebolt.
LP, I'm checking your article out as well. Behind all of your swag is the brain of one of the most intelligent Magic players I've ever known. I guess that's one more thing for you to add to the wall of ego that is your Sally sig.
I can go with that. LK, you are the Mace Windu of red mages...cool, tempered logic in deliberation, but capable of just flat kicking tail when the situation warrants it.
Vexing devil is bad in legacy. The only Format I'd bother trying to play it in is modern. Even then, I'm not happy about it. Bad card is bad.
I tried it in Modern for about 2.5 seconds. VD gave me the feel bads.
I seriously think I hate that card. Yes, there have been cards I never liked and cards that I knew were just bad or even traps. But this card....I think it goes beyond not liking it...

To be fair, Khaos, I actually love the art on the card. It's not reasonably playable, but it looks cool (particularly the foil alter I did for fun a while back...the devil is coming out of the card frame).

I love the artwork, I really do. I think my hatred for the card stems from the fact that the card wants to be good. It has cool artwork; it's a Red card; it has a Mountain in its cost; it can deal direct damage; etc. It wants to be good, but it just isn't. It's a trap!
4 Increasing Savagery, 4 Wolfir Silverheart and 3 Thundermaw Hellkites in the sideboard with just 21 land is asking for trouble. It can catch people offguard at first but any sort of removal could disrupt your plans.
Gyre Sage is a nice card though and I'm testing that out in a Gruul deck with Hellrider and Hellkites.

Personally, I want to keep testing with Gyre Sage...but so far what I'm encountering is
A) I'm not running enough green sources to reliably drop it turn 2.
B) I run enough green sources, and then I've got dead mana I'd rather be pumping into Stonewright.
C) My curve is low enough that it doesn't end up evolving enough to make it really worth it.
Personally, I can see this mana being pumped into a Clan Defiance, and MAYBE into dropping a Wolvir Silverheart if you've only got one other green source, but honestly, I think that finding a home for Gyre Sage in R/G will require tuning the deck more for midrange type play, and I keep trying to use it in sligh.
I'm sure people more knowledgeable than myself will be able to lay the smackdown on my line of thinking though. I know Clan Defiance hasn't been seeing any play thus far. I'm guessing it's just plain too slow to be effective.

In fact, it wants to be good so bad that it makes you want it to be good.
I've heard stories of artifacts that felt like they had a strong emotion tied to them - like books that were -themselves- holy or evil and weapons that were bloodthirsty and violent.
VD is like that.
Every time I hold a copy of that card in my hand I want it to be good. I know it's not, but it makes me want to play it in something anyway.
The card is the Necronomicon of Magic cards - it is pure unholy.

I have been testing it all night against my roommates Aristocrat and my other roomates Experiment Jund deck. I really feel this deck is promising, and it' a blast to play. Being a Red Mage at heart, it is so odd not having spear or pillar in a deck!
I haven't done any sideboarding yet, but I will test this one out. Anyone know how exactly the sideboarding goes? What would I take out for 4 pillars and volcanic strength against aggro? Increasing savagery and gyre sage Im thinking.
edit: just flashbacked Increasing Savagery on t4 to make my boar a 13/13. Very funny.
I've played some test matches with the deck. I don't know how good it is, but if you can play around azorius charm, it's REALLY fun.
I think one of the side benefits to Domri Rade is the ability to play around Azorious Charm. They charm during your attack, if you hadn't used his -2 pre-combat (or any of his abilities, but that one's more likely pre-combat), you can +1 him to put the charmed card back in hand. Still a tempo loss because you have to re-cast, but it doesn't hurt as much because you're still getting the right draw.
Turning Azorius Charm into Unsummon is one of Domri's specialties.
The Increasing Savagery list.... I personally would look to splashing either white or black into it (since who wants to tangle with an 8/8 Reckoner or a HUGE Lotleth Troll or Aristocrat?) depending on your personal preference, but just straight RG seems almost passe when we have such good mana. No sense not to, right?

Have been testing both lists I posted, and am really love them. The first one from the PT, is a bit harder to sideboard for. What I like about the second list, is it allows me to be aggro and midrange. I feel it can stabilize well against other aggro decks, and eventually win mid-game. After SB, I can make it really favorable in the control match up
@ rcwraspy ~ sounds fine to me.

how are you gonna get to their face if youre losing the creature race?
In Modern burn, I think it's ok. When Modern season is in full swing, I'll have a better formed opinion.

Yeah the only reason it even sees Modern play is due to lack of better options for Burn decks.
This makes me want to drown the next Vexing Devil I see in some Holy Water.
8 Forest
5 Mountain
4 Rootbound Crag
4 Stomping Ground
21 lands
4 Arbor Elf
4 Burning-Tree Emissary
4 Experiment One
4 Flinthoof Boar
4 Ghor-Clan Rampager
4 Gyre Sage
4 Strangleroot Geist
4 Wolfir Silverheart
4 Increasing Savagery
2 Garruk, Primal Hunter
3 Gruul Charm
2 Kessig Wolf Run
4 Pillar of Flame
3 Thundermaw Hellkite
1 Volcanic Strength
I believe the shell is from Saito.
Isn't lack of a better option the reason every card sees play?

yup, Daniel Ruiz Martin went 9-1 with it i believe. http://magic.tcgplayer.com/db/deck.asp?deck_id=1097872

4 Strangleroot Geist
4 Wolfir Avenger
4 Bonfire of the Damned
9 Forest
3 Kessig Wolf Run
4 Mountain
4 Rootbound Crag
4 Stomping Ground
