Falkenrath Aristocrat is probably my favorite card in standard and has been for a while. She's SO GOOD. Flying over reckoner and thragtusks like a boss.
LP, I'm checking your article out as well. Behind all of your swag is the brain of one of the most intelligent Magic players I've ever known. I guess that's one more thing for you to add to the wall of ego that is your Sally sig.
I can go with that. LK, you are the Mace Windu of red mages...cool, tempered logic in deliberation, but capable of just flat kicking tail when the situation warrants it.
Don't play with it anymore!??!!!! I could never break up with Falkenwrath Aristocrat
It's been really hard to juggle Modern, Standard and Legacy (especially when I have multiple decks). I've only played in two Standard FNM's since January because I needed to play as much Modern as possible for an upcoming PTQ. Now that the PTQ is behind me, I can jump back into Standard. However, the Saturday Legacy tournaments that I've been on-and-off playing in eat into my Standard time. Mono Red's been my "go to" deck for months since it's tried and tested and fits me like a glove.
With that said, when I get some time I fully plan on upgrading Dos Rakis with the new cards (although trying to land a second set of Reckoners right now is pretty tough :argh:). I'm not ready to completely abandon KoI and FA ~ those ****ers are absolute houses!
Olivia may be good in the Jund match up because Jund hates to lose their Olivia to yours and resolving one turns theirs off until they draw a second. Jund vs Jund comes down to who can keep a Olivia down and while we don't have the Thraggies that make the Jund Mirror even more tight and balanced, we're better at aggroing with little guys, which is what Olivia shuts down.
What/when exactly are you going to sideboard in Volley?
To be honest, I just want that option for more burn open. I'm too used to running 10 burn spells, and I've been unimpressed with Pillar in the last few matchups I played. I wanted another burn that could hit bigger guys and yet still go to the face as needed.
FA + KoI attacks for 5, sac KoI for 1 more point, cast Brimstone for 5 more = 11 damage. I like that scenario.
But I'm terrible at sideboarding vs. specific decks, so I'd probably try to bring it in vs. control, which has been my boogeyman for a while.

I usually opt for more creatures and less burn against control personally. Whatever works for you though man.
Pillar is still really good, theres a ton of x/2's worth killing.
I took the list I posted a few pages back to TNM and crushed it. 3-0-1 with an ID into top 4, which we then split.
It was nice, but I'm not sure I got enough testing in to really comment on the deck. Boros Charm never did much and I only saw a few Lingering Souls. Dreadbore did lots of work, as did the usual creature suite of Stromkirk Noble, Rakdos Cackler, Ash Zealot / KoI, Reckoner and FA.
Essentially, the old Dos Rakis core is still very good. I'm interested in experimenting with Divine Deflection as well.
I really liked Oblivion Ring out of the sideboard. The white splash does add some resilience to the deck, and Rest in Peace might serve as a replacement for Rakdos Charm to COMPLETELY hose any reanimator strategy.

So now that we've all had discussion (and a little testing) how do we feel about the lingering souls/extra white splash? Does it warrant going Tri-Color or is Dos Rakis still at its best when its R/B?
I'm just really curious to know if Boros Charms / Lingering souls are worth the extra 5/6 slots. As well as the SB options such as O-Rings, and RIP

Theres no way in hell we can make a solid decision right now if all we have to go off is Ham who barely drew the cards we splashed lol
-I started out running both Charm and Aurelia's Fury mainboard. Both cards are awesome, but I found that Fury was less globally useful than straight removal. Charm, on the other hand, is a a perfect utility spell. It can dome to finish the game directly, it can allow a pumped Aristocrat to crush in for 10+ and an unexpected game-ender, or can cause the enemy to shatter their board against an indestructible creature wall. And of course with a lifelink source in the deck, there's always the chance of hitting infinite life out of the blue.
-My current base easily supports double-black; Victim is there when I need it.
-O-ring gives the deck the protections it otherwise lacks as well as Dreadbore-level removal. The fact that you can get rid of enchantments is key.
-Running 10 shocks means eating more self-induced damage than with straight Dos Rakis. I have to watch my curve more carefully so as not to do aggro's job for them in mirrors.
-Spear is seeming underwhelming. Yes burn is relevant at times, but more often I'm wishing I had something else in my hand.
-The "right" removal package is really a moving target. I'm leaning towards trying Orzhov Charm, but it is somewhat dangerous to use along with a stack of shocks. When you think about how much damage Martell and Black were doing to themselves in their matches, it really highlights the amount of damage they were dealing and how well they protected themselves from the other guy.
From here, I'm kinda grooving on ham's sideboard plan--going big rather than trying to carry specific answers for every deck out there. I want to get some testing in online with Souls before Game Day, and I am also looking forward to LK's report on The Aristocrats. A Human-centric shell would certainly strengthen Aristocrat, but I don't know if I can walk away from Zealot and Hellrider.
I do quite like the idea of Dreadbore and Orzhov Charm acting as removal in place of Pillar and Spear. One of my opponents tonight mentioned Orzhov Charm, and I hadn't considered it. I think I only have 1 from the prerelease, my acquisition of GTC cards has been pretty pathetic.

Yeah, I like the idea of being able to pick off whatever I need to. The combo of O-Charm and TS is actually really strong because they kill everyting, but I don't know if FA alone is enough Morbid control to run Slip. I'm debating over whether to run some number of Dreadbore or just go straight with O-ring. Hmmm.
I started after Innistrad pre-ordering a full playset of all commons and uncommons on ebay. I know that I will get much of what I want in packs, but for $30-40, I have on-hand anything that comes up useful. There are usually a few breakout cards that cover most of the value of the purchase, and I love not having to hunt/scrounge.
The more I think about it, the more killing people with double striking aristocrat is making the Ham challenge seem like a-wait for it-wet dream. It has that old Dos rakis feeling. You're at 12? Attack, stack FS damage, sac ash to Aristocrat, brimstone volley, GG? With boros charm, I'd imagine you can do that a lot more frequently and the charm itself is infinitely more versatile then brimstone volley. This is worth breaking.

So i've seen a lot of chatter about Orzhov Charm, yet no lists trying it out. What do we remove to fit it in? Spears?
Depends on what you are already playing. In my case I already have 3 terrors mainboard; I will test both ways, taking out some combination of Spears and terrors compared to taking out Spear altogether.
Your primary/local metagame is probably the greatest factor in finding the right mix. For example, if you play against a lot of Jund decks, Victim and UP are pretty low-yield cards to have in your main while Spear kills everything at instant speed except for an engorged Olivia. But if you see mostly Naya midrange, Spear is a great card to drop. There regrettably is no pat answer...this is the part of my deck that I have to tweak with the most.
Can't say if 3 color is better than 2, but I played a few games and goldfished for a few hours last night and the mana base for Dega is no more or less consistent than Dos Rakis from what I can tell... though it is potentially much more painful.

my meta is FLOODED with aggro and I am so scared to play a third colour, life totals change REALLY fast in games and most games end like in 15 mins for 3 matches

I tested the lingering version last night against a guy running Shenhar's Gruul list and lost every game 1. After boarding in my bonfires and more removal, it swung wildly in my favor.
we have cookies.
And death, but mostly cookies.
As for sideboard, I'm going to try a 1/1/2 of Dreadbore/Pillar/Brimstone Volley with 2 each of Dreadbore and Pillar already in the main.
