Anyone else feel this way too? Any deck that relies on one of two cards to win is usually considered a bad deck right? If you take out the strongest cards in most other decks they still look good but in this it looks like just random blue creatures. Because that's what it is!

Yeah I am serious but those wins were off the backs of master of waves and thassa. Without those cards the deck fails to function
You've totally hit the nail on the head!
...Sneak & Show totally sucks too, cuz it fails to function without Sneak Attack and Show and Tell...
...Twin Exarch totally sucks too, cuz it fails to function without Splinter Twin and Kiki-Jiki...
...oh, and don't even get me started on Storm...
There's definitely Mono-U draws where I can't help but think "oh hey, nice draft deck you got there". Fortunately, the good cards are *just that good* to win games despite the.. questionable support cards.
not every deck is a "good stuff" pile. building around synergy for powerful enabling cards is a totally legit way to make a deck, as can be seen from the success of Mono Blue Devotion, which is just the most recent in a long line of decks using this strategy.

Yes, it is definitely a bad deck. Let's ignore all of the results and that it is the second-strongest deck in the format right now.
you guys seem to be missing the point entirely. it plays bad cards that only serve to power those two cards. like nightveil specter (It was unplayable jank before Theros came out) and it mains Tidebinder Mage something that should be in sideboards! My point is that it plays cards for their mana symbols that don't have any other synergy other than that.

They aren't necessarily "bad" cards. Individually they may not be the greatest, but Mono U is build around synergy. There are plenty of other cards that give mana symbols for devotion. The particular ones in Mono U are there because as a whole they work well together. It's a deck based around synergy as opposed to individually strong cards. Judge's Familiar makes most spot or sweeper removal cost one extra, giving the U deck time to either draw an answer or win. Cloundfin Raptor is an evasive threat that can grow to a reasonable size. Frostburn Weird is a wall to most small aggro creatures. A deck doesn't have to be filled with rares to be a "good" deck. Nightveil wasn't unplayable jank, it just wasn't a good creature for the previous format. Even the "best" creatures will have times when they aren't necessarily the best. Mono U is very much a "the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts" deck.

Nobody is missing the point. The point you are trying to make is invalid due to the performance of the deck and the results it's put up.
You could play a deck with 4 Elspeths, 4 Revelations, 4 Jaces, 4 Master of Waves, 4 Pack Rats, 4 Supreme Verdicts, 4 Desecration Demons, 4 Blood Baron of Vizkopa, 4 Obzedats, and 4 Garruks and that deck would be garbage. Sure, the individual cards are all awesome, but they don't work together at all and the only one that could actually be reasonably expected to win you the game is Pack Rat because it doesn't cost a million mana.
Look, I don't think the card quality in Mono U is that good either, but results are results and no propaganda from you is going to change that. No one is forcing you to play the deck and quite frankly, no one cares what you think, so just step off of it already.

Block all the small flyers with Archangel of Thune and use Detention Sphere on Thassa.
Now black has Gild there's no coming back.
The problem has always been that Thassa is the cheapest god and therefore the most powerful. Don't get me started on the extra scry ability which in itself should make her cost even more.
Now she has been nerfed thanks to anti-god cards in BTG but it's not like that's a good thing. I mean who wants Mono black and Azorius control dominating?
Black will run main deck Gild until MUD is dead and buried and then move it to the sideboard for people that want to play it after it goes out of fashion.
I mean it lets you take care of all 10 gods. Why not main board it?

In a way the OP is right tho, allmost all devotion decks stack "bad" unsynergistic cards for huge pay-out. It's a good deck, most of them are good/decent, but that just shows that devotion is a rather good mechanic. Maybe even broken in some cases.
That's a pretty silly statement, given that you can call them "bad" or "unsynergistic" (though I would argue that they are neither) but not both. You can call them individually bad but they do have a one way synergy with Thassa, MOW, and most of them have a "synergy" with bident for being evasive. Or you can call them unsynergistic on account that there is no two way synergy but then you couldn't call them strictly bad because there is that one way synergy which most obviously does exist. Think about it like this. A card that is there to be good enough while significantly propping up your big guns inherently has worth because it does that propping up and needs to be accounted for when assessing whether something is bad or not.
i've played mono-u quite a bit, and i can honestly say that you get many winning draws that have nothing to do with thassa or master. bident and jace still do a lot of work, and tempo spells like rapid hybrid and rift give you a tempo boost that keeps you in front once you get some beaters onto the board.
Honestly, I agree with the OP. I saw all the cards and could see it was a deck before anyone played it in tournaments. The only reason why I didn't make it was because it was so boring and to obvious to make. Seriously... How could you not see how to make the deck? Add hard-blue costed creatures and on the curve, it's not bloody hard lol.

i know right, this deck relies too much on islands. take out all the islands and what have you got?
can you imagine if blue actually had good low-cost creatures? they might actually have to ban islands.

um that's not really that hard. turn it into a UW control deck with just thassa cause I hear control decks like to get really good draws

Storm Crow is strictly worse than Seacoast Drake.
I hear U/W control is already a deck, and none of them play Thassa.

I think UW Control will be the real killer of Mono-Blue. With Supreme Verdict, Archangel of Thune and now Revoke Existence which exiles Thassa or her Bident it has all the tools it needs.
