This is just curiosity on my part, what is considered Italian-American (or American Italian) music? Admittedly, I've never been further east than Cincinatti, so this is completely new to me.
Also, I've read several times how mob movie influence the Mafia. It's interesting, art influencing life and so on.
House/dance music, mostly. Here, often it is played blasting all frequencies from their cars, or similarly blasting out of a club.
Even worse for me is the older Italians gushing over Sinatra and the rest of the Crap Pack crooners.
Actually, I think, ultimately, my biggest problem with these people is their attitude of, "If you're not like us, you deserve to be **** on." Doubly worse when it comes from your own family...

It might be a poor example, but I could imagine how "Jersey Shore" might influence a lot of younger kids of Italian descent towards that type of behavior you described. More life imitating art!
They were like that WAY before that crapshow. Though the kids took to imitating the characters, becoming these nonironic ironic caricatures of themselves.
Imagine living with people that shallow. I am amazed I made it to my twenties.

I am a mix of middle eastern (with almost no culture left except the delicious food) as we only lived there for a few generations, African (born there). If you go up higher, there is more middle eastern, more African(full African on one side of the family), some russian, some french.
I am half black, and I detest being called African-American, even if I am African, and I do live in North America.
Culturally, my family is a mix. Some are very attached to their roots, some totally embraced the North American Culture. I am in the middle. I really dislike North American culture (and I am pretty vocal about it) and I would like to move away (not really to my roots though)

And if I've offended you, I'm sorry, but maybe you need to be offended. But here's my apology and one more thing...

I'd like to start a new life elsewhere.
I'm curious what you mean by North American culture. Can you elaborate?

The country is becoming more conservative.
