Owl Fylgja seems horrifically out of whites colour pie. There has never been a white creature that adds white mana. It just feels wrong....
Why make them all have the same effect? (adding mana).

Because snow.
The central mechanic of snow is that it differentiates your mana. Snow is going to be an even bigger factor in this set than it was in Ice Age / Alliances / Coldsnap. So there are going to be some cards that break the normal color pie rules so that each of the five colors can generate some snow mana. I'm trying to do it without warping the actual play styles of the colors too much.
@Sliver Lord: Naturally, I thought of Eldrazi Spawn, and considered that maybe this would fit better in black than in white. The difference here is that each color is going to receive ways to make snow mana. There would be a white mana generator regardless. With that in mind, hitching Owl Fylgja up to the +1/+1 counter mechanic here felt pretty white. Black and blue are going to get something else.

Farrelite Priest and Helionaut filter for W and Sunseed Nurturer adds 1. That's all white has outside of umpteen colorless artifacts that can produce mana (which has always been my argument against "white and blue can't have mana acceleration" - every color has mana accel in the form of artifacts.)

Sunseed Nurturer is the only argument, since the others are jurassic cards. And even the Nurturer feels very out of place for white. I'd say it's white's Hornet Sting.

YOU ARE SURPRISED BY A MANTICORE! IT QUICKLY SHREDS YOUR FLESH AND DEVOURS YOU!
There are a lot of ways to show White's intereaction with the lands without this, and that is the way it should be done. Adding Plains form your deck to the hand, even to the battlefield, but not adding it to the mana pool, no.
None of the old ways work for what I need to accomplish here. At least none that I can think of (including searching for Plains.)
I was previously developing the set under the assumption that there would be unlimited snow basics available in draft to whomever wanted them. I decided that this was not a great idea. So now, the set's snow faction is operating under a nonzero level of scarcity of snow mana resources.
Nobody wants to see another Cluestone debacle. But in order to support the set's snow theme, I suspect that I need snow mana generators to appear with equal or greater frequency as the Cluestones in DM. My guesstimate is about 2-3 cards per pack. Asking white to just go and fetch a Snow-Covered Plains doesn't help me actually get up to that number unless I compensated by putting more Snow-Covered Plains in the set than the other Snow-Covered lands. And I don't think that's a good idea.
With all that said, I am considering having these Fylgjur generate instead of colored mana. I don't think that it makes Owl Fylgja any more or less white if it generates as opposed to :symw:. But I want these to function as snow mana fixers, not color fixers, and going might help that perception. But does that make them less appealing?
Sunseed Nurturer is the only argument, since the others are jurassic cards.
Again, "hasn't been done" =/= "can't be done." Bends and breaks happen all the time. It doesn't mean that anybody's throwing the color pie out the window.
Right, okay. Lets make a red Sphinx, after all, they are know for being temperamental, right? We can give it vigilance and hexproof and make it ramp you up. But nobody is ignoring the color pie. Amazingly, three red creacures have vigilance, and one has hexproof, albeit, it's mulitcolored, but who cares? It's never been done, but that doesn't mean it can't! Bends and breaks happen all the time, rarely in Red, but hey, why not!?
In any case, if designers listened to every slippery-slope concern that somebody raised, no new cards would ever be created. The proof will come in treading carefully outside the color pie, not in refusing to go outside it no matter what.
And I'm a fan of snow as much as the next guy, but the white one won't stand. No matter how hard you try to justify it.
Going back to an earlier example, why should black Eldrazi Spawn stand? That kind of effect was outside of black's pie at the time, and it really still is outside it.
I think the only answer is "it stands because they did it." And they did it because they had to do it to give the Eldrazi theme enough support.
Scry is more blue then anything else, but just as any card can cantrip, any color can scry.
But, based on what? Again, only precedent. That is, "because they did it." If you removed the scry keyword and had a functionally similar effect, can you argue that draw fixing / library manipulation belongs in red? In white?
While I agree that white doesn't tend to get direct mana acceleration, I could see the bend in this form due to the need of the set combined and the counter removal (it can only be done once).
On the other end of the spectrum, white does occasionally get cost reduction effects (à la Edgewalker). Perhaps something akin to the below?
White Owl :1mana::symw:
Snow Creature — Bird Spirit (Common)
Flying
Snow spells you cast cost less to cast. This effect reduces only the amount of snow mana you pay. (For example, if you cast a snow spell with mana cost :1mana::symw:, it does not reduce the cost.)

No, it's not functionally fine. No card ever did it in our modern era or design. Even the single exception provided colorless mana, and that's the lone exception. So stop chipping away what color pie exclusivity red has left. White already has plenty.
This isn't a change in color pie roles. It's a short-term bleed.
We are also talking about a single white mana, here. One white mana does not constitute a ramp strategy.

Might be time to take a quick jog around the block. I recommend soothing music.

I like all three of these designs, though I do think that the Owl probably disencourages you from making its snow mana by being an efficient Wind Drake on its own. Maybe a 1/2 with a counter for :3mana::symw:?

I second the idea of a big butt in the air - though that means none of the commons would have square stats.
Wasn't trying to be sassy. Just trying to gently remind you that we're in a forum for discussing custom designs for a children's card game. And suggesting that it might do you good to zoom out a little.
MTG is not a children's card game. You got it confused with Yu-Gi-Oh, which explains why you see no problem with a white card adding colored mana to your mana pool.
Since Yu-Gi-Oh doesn't have a mana system, I have no idea what you're talking about.
Also, you must really have hated white cards with extort in RTR block. Because direct damage from spells is red's part of the color pie, and don't hurt precious little babby red, am I right?
IMO, making 1 is in the mantle (outer mantle, admittedly) and making W is in the crust, so I'd much prefer the former. On another note, having non square stats and/or non-zero toughness on these eats up significant complexity points.
Guesswork, would something Spreading Seas-esque help your cause?
Snow Cover 1W
Snow Enchantment — Aura [C]
Enchant land
When Snow Cover enters the battlefield, draw a card.
Enchanted land is a Snow Plains.
That's not a bad idea! I don't think there's any problem with effects conferring snow status. It just can't be a liability in this block.
I'm happy if white generally gets effects more along those lines than along the lines of directly generating mana. That said, I'm still sticking to my guns on this Fylgja cycle. I believe each color needs to see a couple cards that generate snow mana.
I like both designs, but yours seems much less appropriate at common. Without a (sub)theme of lands with non-mana abilities it's a pretty bizarre line of text to be subjecting people to a couple of times per draft.
