Hero of Iroas, no question. W/x Heroic decks were very strong in Theros and that won't change dramatically by adding BNG. He's perfect for those decks, and a very high pick.
I expect this format to be quite tempo-based and see an uptick in removal, which sadly rules out the Oracle's Insight. It's between the Hero and Fall of the Hammer for me, and I'll go with Hero simply because I expect white to be a slightly better color.
Hero of Iroas, followed by Aerie Worshippers(Forlorn is decent but Aerie creates better tokens and has much better toughness), and finally Fall of the Hammer for me, in terms of how I see the pack.
You absolutely read my mind. Strapping an aura on the Aerie Worshippers and making Wind Drakes every turn seems fun!
Even with 4 toughness you can't rely too much on tapping through with that aerie worshipper. Forlorn Sudomama at least will be evasive 2 damage per turn against anything but black, and you weren't going to accomplish much if you kept the worshippers around just as blockers, that toughness difference is largely up to removal. But the upside bear just seems too strong to pass up
being a 2/2 for two before any other abilities probably makes the hero the safest bet. Though Nullify, Weight of the Underworld, and the two uncommon creatures with inspired all seem like fairly strong picks too.
As much as all the utility tempts me, Hero is a safer first pick IMO.
Dude, this is a spicy, spicy set. I counted 3 pieces of common removal in all different color directions.
Its Hero. Bestows are considered Auras and making the theros-pack Thassa's Emmisary that much quicker. Its also completely credible along side the vast aray of bestow one can do. It seems that (in heroic decks) as long as its W/x, x can literally be any other color combo...proly not black.
I like the lady that makes birds. And has anyone thought how cool it would be if you slapped the other uncommon u aura onto her?
The pack itself...actually reads more blue, if you do take the rare (which I guess you still should) this pack wont wheel you jack.
people are going nuts over the bear, who is solid, but removal beats it I'm pretty sure. fall of the hammer is prime removal and triggers heroic to boot.
Solid rare in a weak pack. Hero easy. Maybe people undervalue Oracle's Insight and I can wheel it; I'm pretty sure a Heroic/Inspired enabler that draws quality cards every turn is good.
Hero of Iroas is the pick for sure. But the Servant of Tymaret is a fairly close second. It's an amazing defensive card. I think it's on par with Scholar of Athreos, perhaps better because it can regen.
I'm suprised at how many votes the hero has. Personally I prefer drawing extra cards every turn and enabling pretty much all of the sets keywords with one pick. Hero is good, but I think the blue cards in the pack are actually better.
I don't think Favored Hoplite is nearly as good as Wingsteed Rider, and the rare in this pack is also not nearly as good as Wingsteed Rider. I don't expect that to change with this set. Flying is at a premium.
I think the closest comparables here from the previous set are Wingsteed Rider/Favored Hoplite and Time to Feed. I don't think I've seen anybody ever pick TTF over those white heroic cards in the first pack. TTF is a good card, but it isn't just straight up removal because it requires you to have a creature, and a creature that is large enough to kill the opponent's creature.
Now Fall of the Hammer is less risky that TTF, but I still don't think I would pick a situational removal over a prime threat.
TTF is worse then Fall of the hammer, it's 1 more, sorcery, and your creature could die. I'm obviously not saying it's bad, but comparing it to this new removal isn't fair.
comparing this bear to either of the white cards you mentioned is wrong. one has evasion and the other curves quite well with the ordeal cycle. it's interaction with enchantments is nice, but not as strong as the other two.
Solid rare in a weak pack. Hero easy. Maybe people undervalue Oracle's Insight and I can wheel it; I'm pretty sure a Heroic/Inspired enabler that draws quality cards every turn is good.
Disagree with this. Pretty strong pack IMO, with a rare and three uncommons that are all very strong, plus 2 removal spells at common.
Hero, none of the rest are even close in terms of power and flexibility. A second but very dsitant second pick is either Worshippers or Pseudamma. I can't decide which is strongest though I'd give the blue one the nod as blue is an excellent color overall even though this pack is full of blue goodies. Fourth place goes to Fall of the Hammer/Weight of the Underworld.
I'd say the Hero, but all three of the uncommons are also incredibly strong and I wouldn't feel bad about first-picking any of them. W/B heroic was my favorite draft archetype in Theros and it doesn't look to be any weaker in BNG.
