The land of Luminia is inhabited by numerous clans, each with their own customs, practices, and other distinguishing traits. Each clan is distinct from the others, but all clans agree on the importance of the sun. All clans, regardless of their differences, regard and revere the sun as a source of light and life, a shining body the provides warmth and vitality to the world. Every clan has a weekly ritual honoring the sun, and some even have daily rituals that recognize its important in their everyday lives, but, once per year, all the clans gather together at the Solatorium, the Palace of the Sun, for a most grand celebration: the Solar Symposium. This event is held when the sun shines its brightest and longest in the sky, and features all manner of revelry and merrymaking, in which the varying clans can interact peacefully and exchange ideas and stories from their own traditions and cultures.
However, as this year’s Solar Symposium approaches, and anticipation is building for the momentous occasion, rumors have begun to spread: disturbing rumors that speak of a secret cult of darkness-worshippers who seek to extinguish the light of the sun from the sky, disrupting the natural cycle of day and night and plunging the world into an era of eternal darkness. Under such conditions, the lifestyles that the people of Luminia have known for centuries would end, the people would die, and civilization as it currently is would cease to exist.
Upon hearing these rumors, Luxus Sunstrider, a priest of the sun, has decided to investigate the reports of this night-worshipping cult, to learn the exact nature of the cult and its plans, and hopefully, to stop them before they can be fully realized. Joining him is granddaughter, Lucille, a young acolyte of the sun who is eager to prove her worth by assisting her grandfather in his quest. Together, they hope to uncover the mystery of this secret cult and put an end to their dark designs.
The idea for this block and setting was inspired by (and named after) early drafts of Disney's film The Emperor's New Groove, which was originally entitled Kingdom of the Sun. In the early drafts, the story was far more serious in tone than the highly-comical work that it ultimately became; in that story, Yzma was a powerful sorceress who sought to extinguish the light of the sun, since it caused her to age and lose her beauty, while Cuzco sought to stop her plans.
I originally had intended for my story to have a MesoAmerican setting, to match that of the unrealized movie, but I am not familiar with MesoAmerican culture, and do not have the free time to conduct the research necessary to develop such a setting, so I shall instead have my story set in a standard Arthurian/Tolkienian medieval European setting, which is far more familiar to me.
The cards in this block shall have a strong emphasis on light, the sun, and (conversely) shadow and darkness, since light-versus-darkness shall be a major theme of the story. I shall reprint a number of existing cards that reference both light and darkness (which also shall help to fill card slots if I am having difficulty conceiving new cards), but this set shall certainly not be composed completely of reprints.
At the time of this post, I have only a small percentage of the 250 cards of this set assigned, so this project shall likely take some time to complete, but I shall certainly accept any feedback or criticism of what I have completed, thus far.
Now that I have introduced my set, here are several cards from it.
Amethyst Sunstone
Casting Cost: 3
Artifact (U) T: add B to your mana pool.
Sacrifice amethyst sunstone: add one mana of any color to your mana pool.
Citrine Sunstone
Casting Cost: 3
Artifact (U) T: add W to your mana pool.
Sacrifice citrine sunstone: add one mana of any color to your mana pool.
Emerald Sunstone
Casting Cost: 3
Artifact (U) T: add G to your mana pool.
Sacrifice emerald sunstone: add one mana of any color to your mana pool.
Prismatic Golem
Casting Cost: 5
Artifact Creature - golem (R)
Power/Toughness: 0/0
Sunburst (this creature enters the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it for each color of mana that was spent to cast it.)
As prismatic golem enters the battlefield, choose flying, first strike, trample, haste, or vigilance.
Prismatic golem has the chosen ability.
Ruby Sunstone
Casting Cost: 3
Artifact (U) T: add R to your mana pool.
Sacrifice ruby sunstone: add one mana of any color to your mana pool.
Sapphire Sunstone
Casting Cost: 3
Artifact (U) T: add U to your mana pool.
Sacrifice sapphire sunstone: add one mana of any color to your mana pool.
These cards are fairly simple and straightforward; the sunstones are mana-producing artifacts that can be tapped for a specific color of mana, or sacrificed for one mana of any color. The prismatic golem is a golem comprised of multicolored crystal that can have one of five abilities, a relfection of its connection to all colors of mana.
I do not have a timeline for when this set shall be finished, but I shall post more cards as I conceive them. How does my set look, thus far?
Shouldn't the sunstones' second ability require tapping to produce mana? Otherwise they can work Manamorphose (play sunstone, tap it for mana, sacrifice it, have 2 mana, one colored one of any color).
I did give that idea some thought, but if both abilities required tapping to be used, then the player could not use both, and I specifically added the second abilities to be used when the situation is desperate and the artifact has already been tapped for its first ability.
The Ramos cycle (i.e., Heart of Ramos, Eye of Ramos, etc.) was my inspiration and model for the sunstones, but I personally believe that 3 was too high a mana cost for such artifacts that produce only one color of mana (mana costs of 3 or greater should be used for artifacts that can produe any color, such as darksteel ingot or chromatic lantern), so I reduced the cost of the sunstones to 2.
I shall second that the sunstones are a tad too powerful. They are basically hybrid cards consisting of Pentad Prism, Coldsteel Heart and Prismatic Lens with all the upsides but none of the downsides.
Glad that you followed through with your idea of making your own set. I'm interested to see what this will become!
One small thing: The Times New Roman in the card spoilers is a bit irritating in my opinion.

First, what do you recommend to decrease their power, without removing either ability? Should I increase their mana cost, or have them enter the battlefield tapped? I wish to keep both mana-generating abilities as they are, since those abilities are essential to the idea of the sunstones.
Second, I thank you for your words of encouragement. I shall attempt to update this thread frequently, but if I have long periods of inactivity, do not worry. I shall not abandon this project; it may simply take a while to complete.
Third, Times New Roman is my favorite font, and I have chosen to use it when I post "official" text, including information about sets or new cards, so I am sorry that you find it to be bothersome, but I prefer to use it.
On the subject of cards, here are several more that I just conceived today:
Solatorium, Palace of the Sun
Legendary Land (R) T: add 1 to your mana pool. ,T: add two mana in any combination of colors to your mana pool.
Sunlit Field
Land (U)
Sunlit field enters the battlefield tapped. T: add W to your mana pool.
Sacrifice sunlit field: add one mana of any color to your mana pool.
Sunlit Grove
Land (U)
Sunlit grove enters the battlefield tapped. T: add G to your mana pool.
Sacrifice sunlit grove: add one mana of any color to your mana pool.
Sunlit Peak
Land
Sunlit peak enters the battlefield tapped. T: add R to your mana pool.
Sacrifice sunlit peak: add one mana of any color to your mana pool.
Sunlit River
Land
Sunlit river enters the battlefield tapped. T: add U to your mana pool.
Sacrifice sunlit river: add one mana of any color to your mana pool.
Sunlit Swamp
Land
Sunlit swamp enters the battlefield tapped. T: add B to your mana pool.
Sacrifice sunlit swamp: add one mana of any color to your mana pool.
The name of Solatorium is a reference to the words "auditorium" or "planetarium," but honoring the sun (hence the "Sola," shortened from "solar," referring to the sun). Mechanically, it resembles the "filter lands" from Shadowmoor and Eventide, but can generate mana of any color, since the sun, in my block, represents all colors. I know that it is more powerful than those lands, but I hope that making it legendary is a sufficient drawback to balance that power.
The sunlit lands are very simple and straightforward; each can generate mana of a specific color, or be sacrificed for mana of any color. I gave them a drawback that was not as severe as double drawback of the Ravnica "bounce lands," but one that should still be sufficient to balance their mana-generating abilities, I hope.
After some contemplation, I have increased the mana costs of the sunstones to 3 each, as they are, indeed, too powerful at only 2; this also makes them very similar to the Ramos cycle that inspired them.

You could do that, or as CommanderZ suggested, make them tap and sacrifice to add one mana of any color. They would still be totally reasonable that way.
The Lands:
Again, rather on the strong side. I would replace the enter the battlefield replacement with just "~ enters the battlefield tapped." They would still be very reasonable, and not too powerful for uncommon lands.
The rare land doesn't feel like a legendary, other than that it is incredibly powerful. How about:
Solatorium, Palace of the Sun
Legendary Land (M)
:symtap:: Add to your mana pool.
:2mana:, :symtap:: For each color among mana in your mana pool, add another one mana of that color to your mana pool.
Keep in mind that card texts always use contractions and names, and subtypes are capitalized!

I followed your advice for the sunlit lands, since it does seem perfectly acceptable to have them enter the battlefield tapped unconditionally, but I must remain adamant about not needing the sunstones to be tapped to use their secondary abilities. I have never seen anyone accuse the Ramos cycle of being overpowered, and the secondary abilities of those artifacts do not require tapping to be used.
As for your suggestion about the Solatorium, it is not bad, but your proposed land requires that a player already have mana in their mana pool to make the fullest use of it, which would hinder the land's usefulness if the player does not possess enough other lands, which is a scenario that I wish to avoid.
I was suggesting that you could leave the Sunstones at if you would change the sacrifice ability to require tapping.
Between those two changes, I would prefer to increase the mana cost of the sunstones, so that both abilities can be used in a single turn, if doing so proves to be necessary.

Prismatic Golem doesn't feel very rare considering Skyreach Manta. How about:
Prismatic Golem 5
Artifact Creature - Golem (R)
Sunburst (This creature enters the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it for each color of mana that was spent to cast it.)
When prismatic Golem enters the battlefield, for each +1/+1 counter on it, choose flying, first strike, trample, haste, or vigilance.

That is not a bad suggestion, but would that make it too powerful? And I do not wish for its default power and toughness to be -1, so could I increase its cost to 6 and keep them at 0 each?

Amethyst Sun Sage
Casting Cost: :symru::symb:
Creature – Human Wizard (U)
Power/Toughness: 2/2
When amethyst sun sage enters the battlefield, if U was spent to cast it, return target creature to its owner’s hand.
When amethyst sun sage enters the battlefield, if R was spent to cast it, it deals 2 damage to target creature or player.
Citrine Sun Sage
Casting Cost: :symug::symw:
Creature – Human Cleric (U)
Power/Toughness: 2/2
When citrine sun sage enters the battlefield, if U was spent to cast it, draw a card.
When citrine sun sage enters the battlefield, if G was spent to cast it, put two 1/1 green saproling creature tokens onto the battlefield.
Emerald Sun Sage
Casting Cost: :symwr::symg:
Creature – Human Druid (U)
Power/Toughness: 2/2
When emerald sun sage enters the battlefield, if W was spent to cast it, destroy target enchantment.
When emerald sun sage enters the battlefield, if R was spent to cast it, destroy target artifact.
Ruby Sun Sage
Casting Cost: :symgb::symr:
Creature – Human Shaman (U)
Power/Toughness: 2/2
When ruby sun sage enters the battlefield, if B was spent to cast it, target creature gets -1/-1 until end of turn.
When ruby sun sage enters the battlefield, if G was spent to cast it, target creature gets +1/+1 until end of turn.
Sapphire Sun Sage
Casting Cost: :symwb::symu:
Creature – Human Wizard (U)
Power/Toughness: 2/2
When sapphire sun sage enters the battlefield, if W was spent to cast it, target player gains 2 life.
When sapphire sun sage enters the battlefield, if B was spent to cast it, target player loses 2 life.
Each of these creatures costs one mana of a specific color and one hybrid mana of that color's allied colors, and each creature gives its summoner the option of one of two triggered abilities when it enters the battlefield, depending upon which color was spent to pay the hybrid part of its mana cost.

The last three are varying levels of good, but all fine overall, and nice designs imo. The first two are shockingly overpowered, especially considering that these function as modal spells in a tri-color deck. Maybe the blue effects could be kor hookmaster and the last mode of dimir charm. You could probably get away with the shock being creature only and one saproling instead of two. For reference: Ghitu Slinger, Man-o'-war, wistful selkie, and attended knight.
Regarding the golem, 6 for a 0/0 seems fine at rare. At best it's a Horde of Notions which gains flying and first strike in exchange for the recast ability and an extra mana.
