Change happens, like all the changes that have come before this one, there's some good & some bad, but in a couple of years, we'll all be used to it & think we were wrong to paint this as all bad. I wouldn't worry about taking a break if you ordinarily wouldn't; we're still looking at the same game we all know and mostly love, just with another minor facelift.

Hey all... I'm retired, not dead. Check out what I'm doing these days (and beg me to come back if you want):
If they were going to change the border and stuff like that, they should have changed it to Future Sight cards or Planar Chaos cards.
Ugh, not the Future Sight frame. I hate that with a passion.
Best thing about Modern Masters is that you never need to play with FS cards again.
Edit: For what it's worth, here's how I rate the frames:
Functionality:
M15
Modern
Classic
Planar Chaos
Future Sight
with the biggest gaps between Classic and Planar Chaos (PC card names were hard to read) and PC and FS (the FS cards were awful to play with because the mana cost doesn't show up when you fan cards as Magic players are used to).
Elegance/Beauty:
Planar Chaos
Classic
Modern
M15
Future Sight
with the big gap between Classic and Modern. Monocoloured non-green classic foils looked so good.
I cant believe people are *****ing about the new card frame already.
Seriously, you gonna still buy the damn cards anyways. Yes, it looks a bit off, but after a set it will be just fine.
The new text is pretty interesting, I kind of like it.
this.
I still remember all the whining back when 8th Ed was announced with the most drastic change to the card face. In the end, most people learnt to to live with it. I personally believe it just upgraded the gaming experience. Just look at how many cool things/mechanics we've had with the frames since the change - Miracle's, DFC, Flip, Color-Shifted...
The new frame has less changes, and most of them are mere cosmetic. I think the new foil stamp is a very welcome addition. Once in your hand, you'll see how it make your rare cards look much classier and precious. I think they can and should keep doing interesting things with the card frames, and even use special foiling and/or printing techniques for collecting reasons.
I welcome the change, and in time I think most of you will too
New frame is...honestly not a big enough change to warrant too much of a mention. Obviously it needed some explanation, but definitely not worth making a big deal about. I'd have rather a real change to it if they were going to bother, hell give us the future sight or planar chaos borders, those were pretty awesome IMO.
Also, really bummed to see the community acknowledgement as flavor text on waste not. Should have been something about not wasting opportunities instead, as an in-joke for how horrible this YMTC was and how bad the result ended up being (people are actually excited that this is seeing print?).
Picture it now, friends. Garruk and Liliana are circling one another across the barren landscape of a distant plane. Their eyes crackle with energy, their teeth grit and fists clench. This is a moment in which old scores will be settled and injuries both mental and physical avenged.
Garruk sends out his mightiest spell-beast in a torrent of green mana, Liliana throws up a dazzling barrage of dark, defensive sorcery. Suddenly the tension shatters.
"Judge!" Garruk screams.
A judge out of the smoky wasteland.
"My opponent is using an illegal spell." The Wildspeaker insists.
Liliana is frozen in place, hovering between shock and outrage. The judge walks over to inspect her spell. Careful examination is made of everything from the copyright text to the mana symbols.
The judge shakes his head. "I'm sorry. This spell is counterfeit. It doesn't have the holo-foil stamp present on all rare and mythic cards."
Liliana's spell dissipates and she is led away from the plane, protesting her innocence A large "disqualified" stamp is placed on her remaining spells, which are carefully stacked and taken to be destroyed.
"Also, I heard she doesn't like the new Slivers!" Garruk calls out.
The judge shakes Garruk's hand for being such a dilligent wizard/beast hunter guy in the quest to stamp out anything that doesn't look like a sub-premium 1980s baseball card. It is a rough business, that of planeswalking, but a safe one where Magic's intellectual property is protected by making the cards look as terrible as possible.

Way too much effort put into whining over something so trivial.
I like the new frame. Collector informat was for instance painfully difficult to read on red cards, now everything is clear and concise.
This is really a welcome change.
My only regret is that the "holostamp" introduces plastic which makes the card a bit less environment-friendly, but it's luckily on a limited portion on the print run.

Hi I'm Infecter4life and ironically I only play GBx decks.
Way too much effort put into whining over something so trivial.
I appreciate your concern for my time, but that took very little of it to write and edit.
Anything that makes Magic cards less attractive is not what I would consider trivial. They may be aesthetic, streamlined, and just the sort of thing to compete in today's fast-paced marketplace, but they aren't pretty. The rectangle of artwork shouldn't have to pull the whole sled, considering how long flavor text has been napping in the back.
I think the holofoil will be a layer between the image and the back, so that it can't pop out like that. Since it's likely to be a couple microns thick, it shouldn't change the feel of the card.
The only thing I don't like is the fact that the border on the right side extends further down the card face than does on the left side. It is visually unappealing.

I think that's an optical illusion due to the P/T box.
Edit: actually upon closer inspection, I think it's due to the drop shadow that occurs only on the left side of the card frame.
This was the perfect time for them to go back to the pre-Mirrodin borders without having to admit that the post-Mirrodin borders were a mistake.

Due to real-life obligations, I am taking a long break from Magic which may include missing the local Legacy GP. Apologies for not being able to keep my threads updated.
first off by the time M15 hits who would want to counterfeit these cards?? we all know that counterfeiters are after money and money is in the OLD cards so a little too late there Wizards
Edit: for the record the Eldrazi have the BEST borders on their cards...which is to say none!!
I like how they're both more modern (the bottom) and more old-school (the new font) at the same time.
I think these'll look a lot better in person than they do online, especially the bottom.
Foily bit is a little eh, but does give some mild nostalgia for the old foils with the star.
I still hold out my unrealistic Vorthos dreams of all-full-art, or at least more art-epic, frames (e.g. the latest Phalanx Leader and Nighthowler promos) at some point, but this is a decent mild improvement (which probably has something more behind it mechanically than what we know about yet).
(I think that "designed by" note needs something else though, like parentheses, punctuation, something...looks rather awkward)

I think this is true. Upon seeing Waste Not, I found the new frame looked good. Obviously, I'd prefer things not change but since there are "many experts constantly trying to make Magic better" I guess we've got to expect changes every once in a while. Then I saw Wall of Fire. More like wall of black at the bottom!
I don't mind wasting a bunch of space so you can figure out whether the card with a silver expansion symbol is uncommon or rare, but why couldn't the red frame go all the way around?
Then I looked at some real cards and planeswalkers have more black at the bottom than other cards and look fine (they still have a thinner complete border but I digress). These will likely look less ridiculous in hand than on a screen.
Also fun to hear Aaron talk about how slivers were poorly received. MaRo always dismisses it with: "market research indicates people loved them". This sounds suspiciously like the market research I did in high school: My friends and their parents. That's a representative sample, right?
The frame change is minor and relatively innocuous, but I'd be happier if they spent time on the (very few) things that could be improved in Magic and not spending all their time trying to figure out how to get more black on the front of a red card.
Just mask the thing before you start, problem solved.

Still I'd have to see the cards with my own eye to make a better judgement. If the border itself is thinner it might not be that noticeable.
