I feel Kiora's +1 is superior to Jace's, and the ultimate is far more reasonable to attain. Jace's draw function is certainly much better.
And here I feel the opposite (well except about her ultimate)... I like Jace's +1 better given how well it can hold off a swarm (which I find is more often the issue then 1 big threat) but I like her -1 better then Jace's -2. Sure you could get more cards out of the deal/dig deeper but getting to play more lands and thus actually make use of those cards you're drawing seems excellent in the control faceoff.
And of those, Lili and Karn are the only ones you should expect to see on any given day. There's a few new Chandra here and there, and some Garruks booting around a bit more now due to the current interest in Gx devotion builds. Man, I can't even remember the last time I saw Elspeth, Knight Errant and she's arguably the second best planeswalker ever printed. Walkers on the whole have fairly low impact on the format outside the big 2.
Otherwise... I know I tend to underestimate PWs, but you start at 3 or 1 loyalty? Explores are obviously good, but "dying to random bolts" is obviously bad.
Also as Lovecraft fan and Call of Cthulhu boardgame fan I keep rereading the ultimate searching for "intimidate" on token.
It's probably not the best sign that the only other PWs that start at 2 loyalty are very arguably the worst ever
(Nissa Revane and Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded).

Anyone else initially misread her +1 as "permanents an opponent controls" instead of "target permanent an opponent controls?"
I think she has potential. She can personally shut down the greatest threat an opponent controls. When supported by a deck that can keep the small fry at bay, I can definitely see her stalling until she can release the kraken.

Good point. Nipicking, but Elspeth is 3rd best after JtMS and LotV.
Like I said, arguably, lol. Either way, Lili is clearly the First Lady of Modern at the moment, and Kiora isn't likely to make even a small splash in the pool.

If you minus and they bolt her, that's still not bad, really. About the same as Jace AoT's -2, if not a little better. Plussing her then getting bolted is pretty bad, though. She'll be fun in a superfriends build with token creature support.
Looks good to me.. people got a little spoiled there in alara/zenidy. They have worked out how to make balanced powerful cards now.
People though newest jace was awful when spoiled remember.
+1 protect iteself. You will need other creatures. prevent the one that can get through from hurting her and block with the rest.
- 1 Very good... explore is great... doesn't kill her. I see no downside.
-5.. takes 4 turns to get running but she does protect herself.. emblems can't be stopped its a win con as it should be... I mean Ral's Ulti for example doesn't just win the game.. it should but it doesn't always.
since it only affect one of your opponent's permanent that can deal damage. It really doesn't seem much unless the format is much slower....
she seems great against non-black oriented control.... hero's downfall is a bit of a downer..... although you would get at least one use out of her (probably the explore) before you lose her if you do drop her against a black control deck.
But at that point she is a four casting explore for the most part...... now that i think about it, even against aggro deck, she is probably just going to be an explore at best.....
although the low ulti cost makes her a bit better.....
Beautiful art and I love the abilities, but I just can't get over that starting 2 loyalty. If she had one more starting loyalty and her ultimate had cost -6 or -7 to pull off she would have been perfect. I'll still pick up a copy or two, if only for that art.

I'd argue that Chandra Ablaze is worse than Nissa Revane.

The 2 starting loyalty is a deal breaker. Because of current standard's devotion tactics, swarming aggro decks are popular. Against Red (which also carries lightning strike) or Blue, the +1 isn't gonna help. Against the slower-going black decks, where the +1 can stop Descration Demon or Blood Baron, they just happen to be packing Hero's Downfall. If you're gonna use a card one time for advantage before it dies, Jace AOT's mini FoF for 4 mana is going to be better than a -1 Explore. Perhaps after Jace cycles out?
It seems the default cost nowadays for new planewalkers is 4 and 5.
I don't understand why so many people are complaining, heck it was even the same with Ral Zarek. Just because both of them were really anticipated by fans doesn't mean Wizards was going to make the absurdly overpowered.

but the Ultimate will be a lot of fun with Rings of Brighthearth and Doubling Season.
I bet she'll drop to $10-15 until we see Kruphix in JOU-
she's just too fragile to be a Standard Powerhouse,
or to empower an archetype all by herself
I'm still a bit shocked they went for CMC4.

Actually, I count at least 2 other people saying it first.
Storm Crow is strictly worse than Seacoast Drake.
Bloody heck. I searched the thread and didn't find anything.
