I know I am one of the straight guys here, but am I the only one that finds Reid Duke absolutely dreamy? Not sexy (at least not for me), but very magnetic and adorable. Is it just me?
NGL, I'd do him. One of my rather weird tastes, lanky nerd-ish (?) guys.

In the discussion it is just so surprising how often people will use the argument against sexuality of any kind in order to condemn the representation as tokenism. I had a geeky friend of mine use this argument with me twenty years ago, and at first I thought it had merit, but after thinking about it I began to see it as at the very least mild homophobia couched in sexual awkwardness. As those of you who are gay know well it is a weird phenomenon that when a person tells their parents that they are dating a person of opposite sex they think of love and a relationship, but when you tell your parents (or most other people) that you are dating a person of the same sex all they see is the sex you may be engaging in. It is the same kind of thing...we see Anax and Cymede together on a card and it is a relationship, we see a reference to two men who had a historical relationship and the sexual comments are all over the place.
I like the subtlety of the reference. Ninja gay for the win! I also agree with the previous commentary on people's awkwardness with sexuality in general being a problem when sexuality that is not their own is presented. How can you be comfortable with the alien when you barely have a handle on your own?
I have to do something special with this card now. I sense a gay themed alter in the works.
Anyone going to grand prix Oklahoma City in October?
No. Although I have a group of local players that occasionally travel there for events. I may have to tag along sometime.

On another note, I have encountered stupid thing on the internet #34556430: gay people taking up arms against Macklemore's Same Love song and writing up convolutions psuedo-arguments against it. Arguments that are so full of self-indulgence and logical fallacies.
I... I just... Ugh. It's not even that I object to criticizing someone who's standing up for our community. I have no problem with criticism that has merit. Because valid criticism serves to ultimately improve how we think and understand things. But there's nothing wrong with the lyrics of the song. The people inventing arguments against the song are just reaching soooo far.

I am just speechless at that...well not quite. That song is ****ing beautiful! I thought Thrift Shop was a catchy song, but I never gave much thought to him as an artist until I heard his interview on the Nerdist podcast. I realized that they were talking about something I had missed so I stopped the interview and looked up the track and was FLOORED! So damn good, and so damn honest at that same time. The way he talks about being a kid and owns up to the stereotypes that made him feel better, and then moves on to a more grown up message is fantastic song writing. I then bought the album and listened to it through a dozen times before I finished the interview.
It kinda reminds me of when I learned that there is a large chunk of the feminist community that is vocally and vehemently against transgendered people that identify as female, as well as people that get surgery to become more female looking. Hate and ignorance are universal and we should not be further isolating people that get the same.
I am Jewish (not by birth, but by conversion) and one of the amazing things about the Jewish community is that post WWII they retained a cultural memory of the hate that they experienced as other groups look on silently. It became part of the education to stand up for what you see as not right even if it is not aimed at you. The result was that in the 50's and 60's some of the first people to stand up for minority rights were white Jews no matter how liberal or conservative they might be politically. Take a look at crowd shots from human rights marches in the 60's and when you catch a white face there is a good chance they are either Jewish or Quaker.
I only bring it up to say that I cannot understand the idea of one minority not embracing positive influences no matter where they come from.

The silver lining: when gays' behavior is stupid, intolerant, pathetic, ignorant, cringeworthy, [insert string of pejoratives] we can a least hold them up in front of the rest of the world and say, "See? We gays really are just like you."

Yeah I hope he's at the OKC grand prix and is nice. And...I hope Brian Kibler is there and that I don't make a fool of myself ogling him >_>
I'm already traveling out of town on the fifth of October for a Legacy tournament or I'd try to arrange it. I only get so many weekends off with my job in a short span of time, sadly.
I try to be subtle with my oogling. There's a LOT of Magic players out there that are my type. It's both a blessing and a curse.

In the 19 years I've played this game, there has been a steady improvement. In the early days, I don't remember paying much attention altogether but in time, some of them have learnt to change their clothes every once in a while and to have a haircut Still, though, among the ones I see regularly, there's only one who's really my type.

I tend to go for the disheveled, scruffy types. Lol.
Hygiene though, that matters. I'm okay if someone looks a little rough around the edges (or in the case of the gentlemen I like - a little plushy and snuggly around the edges), but please shower and use deodorant. Please.

I remember being tempted to call a judge during one match at a casual event because the odor and stench of my opponent was completely throwing me off my game... :'(
Ironically, though, I only just recently got back into Magic (started playing 1997, on and off many times since then) at the start of Dragon's Maze, and while I've never really been one to go to the LGS for "checking out dudes," I was surprised to find a couple extra guys past normal quantity that I wouldn't have minded seeing afterward, too.
Of course... I feel that I must compete on a different level in such a playing field -- if my deck can't beat theirs, what hope do I have?!

Well, it's not like I go to the LGS specifically to check out guys. lol But hey, if the flowers are in bloom why not take a moment to enjoy them?
As for deck playing... Well, if the game is well played and fun, then who cares who comes out on top? ;-)
Thanks! *chuckle* I have a strong appreciation for eye candy in all its myriad forms. The experience of beauty is a sublime thing. The sun is shining. The breeze is cool. The Autumn leaves are changing color. And that gorgeous, husky, hairy man is jogging down the trail shirtless.

Welcome back magikylscorpio to the gaymers (previously someone else maybe?)
It's hard not to associate sexuality with magic considering the number of buxom babes depicted on cards.
