To begin with, we'll have an enhanced front page and an on-site card database
Does the internet need yet another MTG card database? vBulletin is a pretty supported forum software paltform.
I mean, it seems like a lot of downside, and I'm not just talking visual, I understand that is mostly personal preference and some people may like the new sites look better, but moving the site to a server that is blocked by the majority of work firewalls? A move that will directly impact ad revenue? All for a local card database that isn't really adding anything and having multiple spoilers live which saves you, what, 2 clicks over what's there today?
I mean, I'm not Curse, obviously it's their call, but choosing to make a site less profitable by moving to a platform just to get what seem to be incredibly minor enhancements doesn't seem like a good idea. I guess I just don't see how cutting off access to a huge number of users for 8 hours a day makes the site more sustainable long term. But whatever, it's their site, their decision. Just stinks, I came to this site after WoTC ruined thier forums with thier "upgrade", now I might have to find a third option after MTGS goes through the same thing.
I'm having this same issue. Additionally, it seems a thread or 2 of mine are missing from beta that exist here.
I assume that it's your newer threads, right?
Our contents were copied over a few weeks ago but nothing posted here will show up on the Beta until we move it all over again.

That's correct. Sorry, I thought I saw threads newer than mine on there, that's why i brought it up. I was mistaken. As for the account issue?

That was an issue when we first started this and I am sure there is some simple solution that's simply slipped my mind. I'll ask what happened to that.
(EDIT: Are you logging on with your username or email address associated with your account?)

My guess would be that they want Sally integrated into their ecosystem. Maintaining two forum implementations is much tougher than maintaining one. In addition, the security issues with older vBulletin versions are probably making Curse very nervous.
The Clans sub is hidden, along with tons of other subs with special permissions. Don't worry, they're not gone, and by launch they'll all be there with the correct permissions.
As for the posting issue you have, I'll notify the techs.
Not going to lie, I was getting frusterated searching the beta for the clans sub.
Thanks for clearing that up.
Any word on a mobile freindlier version?
I thought I saw a question asking this but did not see the answer, what about custom titles?
You can't tell which threads are unread, at least not easily. I play a lot of mafia, and so I like seeing at a glance which threads have new activity or not. And, on top of that, it makes everything a wall of bold titles so that no single one can easily strike out at the user. I lead with this because it is the largest killer for me.
The site also lacks the utilitarian visage of MTGS that I've come to love. I also dislike having black text on grey on black on blue being the colorscheme, and can't see a way to change that. I imagine with Curse's demographic that may be unlikely to change, either.
Last, I don't like the very top of the site telling me to get premium all the time. I'm not going to get premium and the site pushing me to get it only makes me want to take my time elsewhere. I will not like this page. That button only clutters the site. I will not tweet about this page. That button only clutters the site. I am not going to sign up when I'm already signed in, go away giant orange button. It's just. so. CLUNKY.
And that's a huge turnoff.
vBulletin may be outdated but apparently "modern" is synonymous with "cluttered".
If the move is made to Curse in the current state, I think I just may not move with it, except to finish out my remaining mafia games. There's a minimum standard of site cleanliness that Curse is not providing.
One very simple request: Can the beta website's category be changed so that it will not be categorized as "Games" or a "Gaming website"?
I can open the current forum just fine but the beta website is blocked by our office firewall.

I actually thought it was strange that votan took it upon himself to better serve the community by downgrading his status and did not outright retire.
Further, with so many admins and global, I didn't think it was entirely reasonable or consistent that he would need to have done this.
Regarding the beta version of MTGS, I appreciate what the staff of the site and Curse are doing, but I rather like vBulletin for very good and self-evident reasons. Certainly, vBulletin has its issues, but so would the software utilized by the beta version.
I can't log into the beta. I've tried with both my email accounts, and it says I'm not in the database. THEN I decided to register, maybe that was the problem? Well, my username is taken somehow....hmmm? Idk what is wrong. Is everyone else able to log in or am I crazy/uninformed/jumping the gun?

Unless you've changed your name before the databases were cloned or whatever, of course your username would be taken; in fact, it would taken by you!
What exactly are you doing? Revealing that might shed light on the problem in specific.

I've got something in the works that should help with all that. I agree that the superliminal Curse branding is really annoying, but it's highly unlikely Curse is going to tone it back themselves.
There's a minimum standard of site cleanliness that Curse is not providing.
I kind of set it aside but I made a decent amount of progress on Nis's Stylish style sheet. So far I havent hit any significant roadblocks in turning the beta site into a clone of the current site. The colors are there, the fonts are there, there are a few things like missing borders that need to be added, and the row heights are all screwed up, but I'm pretty sure that's fixable. It will also get rid of all the curse banners and extra clutter (display: none). I have about 75% of the black removed and replaced with white (another problem is that they use images for a lot of the borders, so it's not just changing a color, you have to remove the image and add in a new border element).
I guess what I am trying to say is that so far, it doesn't look impossible to reverse the visual change and get the MTGS look back. I agree, the vBulletin site is probably the best looking, most readable forum I visit, and the new site is just far worse readability wise. Once the switch happens I'm sure I'll be more motivated to actually finish the stylesheet (I'd say it's about 70% completed) and of course would be happy to share it. And I would be surprised if there aren't going to be others working on the same thing. Nis may finish it off, he may let others finish it off, either way, I'd be surprised if there wasn't a 99% accurate CSS out there pretty darn soon after the beta site goes live.

It's not a simple request and probably not possible at all. Remember, that office proxy/firewall software costs a good chunk of change and is probably used in millions of offices worldwide. If a site could easily change themselves to bypass the proxy, the software wouldn't be very worthwhile, would it?
Curse would most likely need to contact these web proxy software companies and try to convince them they are not a gaming site, and I don't see that happen. I have to say I am a little morbidly curious what the drop off rate for viewership is going to be. Still boggles my mind that a site that generates it's revenue through advertising is moving to a platform that actively enforces LESS viewers.
You know, I get that there are some features we'd like to see in the new forum software that aren't there yet. And I get that it's annoying to not be able to check the forums from behind an office firewall. However, the latter of those two issues is completely outside of Curse's control. They're not tagging their own site as gaming-related; the firewall folks are doing that. And pretty much anything they do that ties MTGS to the main Curse site will set off the firewall. Sure, Curse could leave everything out here, on a forum they're not well-equipped to support, and not leverage any of their own in-house technology, I guess. And then, two months later, the firewall group will update their blacklist and add MTGS to it anyway.
I do understand everyone's frustration, but as someone who has done some web development, I can tell you there's no way I'd be trying to get around someone else's firewall. There's nothing you can do about it. And frankly I'd be pretty annoyed if my users were complaining to me about being blocked by the firewall on their end.

It's not about control, and it's not about complaining. In the end, it comes down to a simple hierarchy. My free time at home is worth more than what I value MtGS at. My free time at work is NOT worth more than what I value MtGS at.
QED: I will browse Salvation when I am at work, but I won't when I am at home.
People aren't so much complaining about the firewall as they are trying to find a workaround. When they can't, site attendance will drop. Dramatically. Curse, on some level, understands this, but they aren't willing to let it lie, and have told the admins that the software security issues are responsible. Likely there are a host of reasons that they want us to switch over, but I doubt that any of them are for us.
Net result? They'll lose thousands of clicks per day.
Nope, tried logging in every which way, but it doesn't recognize that I'M Tinfoil Hat. I even made a damn Curse account, and it doesn't help at all, it thinks I'm two different people. Am I the only one with this problem????
EDIT: WOW. It didn't recognize that I changed my email....... ****ing ridiculous.

Of course there's something thy can do about it. Not move to the beta site and keep MTGS as is. It's completely in their control, and totally their decision to move to a site they know will be blocked. I agree that a technology solution is not feasible, however, not moving the site to one that is blocked by what appears to be a large number of firewalls is a decision they could easily make.
And IMHO getting annoyed at your users for complaining about not being able to get to your product is a pretty awful mentality for a company to have. It would be like Ford saying "Stop complaining your tires are blowing up and killing people, it's Firestones fault, there's nothing we can do about it! Gah, you are all so annoying!!"
