These feel wrong to me. Shady merchant doesn't explain when the trigger happens properly and metal caravan is very expensive for a mana source, would seem to escalate in a really unreasonable way for a common card and creates colourless mana at incredibly inopportune times.

Shady Merchant's effect happens when it kills a creature.
As for the Caravan, it's one of those really bad cards that come to mind.
I just can't imagine metal caravan being a common. I guess maybe if the set is chock full of non basic lands? Then you're still generating colourless mana on your draw step and other weird moments of the game. I guess thats fine, but people are going to be seeing a lot of this card at common.
You probably want the wording "Whenever a creature dealt damage by shady merchant this turn dies..." I guess you'll get one activation out of it blocking so that card seems pretty strong.
Meh, let's just roll with it. One mistake shouldn't kill the flow of the game.

These feel wrong to me. Shady merchant doesn't explain when the trigger happens properly and metal caravan is very expensive for a mana source, would seem to escalate in a really unreasonable way for a common card and creates colourless mana at incredibly inopportune times.

As for the Caravan, it's one of those really bad cards that come to mind.
