I recently picked up a beta ancestral for quite a steal. This has given me pause due to the number of counterfeit cards floating around. From these images can you tell me if it appears fake to you?
In terms of coloration does it seem reasonable? I know the shots are rather dark. The white dots near where the borders meet is a good sign, and the card feels like it should. Any tips on whether or not it is a rebacked CE?

Those pictures aren't very clear, so it is difficult for me to tell. It looks like the front is creased in several places while the back looks much cleaner. That would be a bad thing.
Get good scans of the card, 300 dpi or better yet 600 (huge file, but helpful). Then experts can actually say if the card is real or not. While your pics are reasonably sharp, it's still impossible to zoom close enough to see the print pattern.
Usually forgers don't cause extensive wear on their creations, but players who know they don't have the real thing are also less careful with the fakes, so playing without sleeves and causing this sort of wear might happen.
Also remember that wear will make light test unreliable and also affect the feel of the card. This one should be less rigid than regular Magic cards. Hopefully the card is real, but just having playwear doesn't make it automatically real.
Looks fake to me. The card is passing a lot of light in the second picture, the front wear doesn't match the back wear, and the colors seem quite off. It could just be the pictures.

This is what I would say also. Better scans might tell a different story though..
I saw the ad for this exact card on craigslist. I passed on it because it looked too questionable. If you can take a high resolution scan we might be able to say more definitively.
I really can't tell by the quality of the pictures. You need to get high resolution scans, and if your buddy is coming with a loupe tomorrow, he'd be able to better tell you. From that resolution, we can't identify the printing pattern used, which is a really important aspect to determining a fake.
From what I can tell, the creasing is very peculiar, however, possibly legitimate. Again I can't tell by the picture. Secondly, the coloration is definitely odd. Again, that may be due to the picture, or it could also just be how the card was made (some older cards do have coloration issues like such). My verdict: probably real, but there's still a good chance it's not. No one here can tell for sure without better images.

Maybe take a picture of the card outside of a sleeve?
If it's a fake, this would be because it's rebacked CE.
