So in many, many threads, I heard players complain about potential price gouging on the new commander decks by LGS's/websites--and it seems everyone has the exact same backup plan: buy them at Walmart/Target/other Big Box store. Obviously, they won't have the stock to be everyone's backup plan--so I wanted to see how that's worked out for people, and what people plan to do going forward. Feel free to give details in your posts.
My LGS offered MSRP if you bought all 5, or $10 higher than MSRP if you only bought 1. I bought the set of 5; a Target I checked had a couple of them at MSRP (Jund/Naya), but not the ones I wanted.
My Walmart and Target don't even have them stocked yet. There's not even a space for em on the shelf.
However I did get one of each from my LGS for $30 a piece. This is before they realized the Mind Seize deck was going for $70 and bumped up the price accordingly, though.
My Target was a similar story, I work just across the street and the Walmart here seems to just hire idiots. I didn't see them on the shelf but when one of the employees saw me looking kind of bummed she asked what I was looking for and I told her. She dug one of each out of the vender area (the vendor was on vacation).
The closest LGS is also 30min away and I didn't want to drive that to go home empty handed.
edit: Never mind I checked my recite and they were $29.99 I was seeing the sales tax as each was rung up.
I will be going tomorrow to Walmart and Target tomorrow to pick mine up. Hopefully they'll still be in stock. At yesterday's FNM, my LGS had the Grixis Commander deck priced at $50, the Esper one at $45, and the rest were $35 each. The saddest thing was that some people bought the Grixis one and didn't know all of them were $30 MSRP.
They weren't at any Targets or Walmarts in my area, so I'm going to wait. I don't care about supporting local game stores, because I don't like playing at them due to the stench. Nor do I like the condescending employees who work there or the jacked up prices.
I live about 10 minutes from 2 different Walmarts and on my way to work I stopped at one and they had tons of all except Mind Seize which is what I wanted. Most likely one guy bought them all I guess.
After work went to the other and they had plenty of all the decks so I picked up a Mind Seize and Jund at 30 each. Had to try pretty hard to resist the urge to buy out the Mind Seizes since it seems to easy to make money off them but I didnt want to be that guy who ruins it for someone who actually wants the deck.
All five were available at my local Walmart at MSRP. I bought one there since there are no LGSs in my area, but if an LGS wasn't selling at MSRP I wouldn't buy from there anyway.
Didn't try to pick them up. In a month all this talk will blow over and people will easily get the decks for MSRP, but of course people have to have them now

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."
My LGS got two of each and was selling them for $40. I called the smaller WalMart near me earlier and they had one of each deck in stock. I got there within thirty minutes and the Bant/Esper decks were gone. I grabbed the other three. Not sure how many the bigger Walmart got.
Got a nice deal at my FLGS - $10 off your purchase if you get all 5. I went to a midnight release for the decks and they had about 20 sets, ALL spoken for! Good thing I preordered at the start of spoiler week.
This is a very popular product, and my FLGS is restocking them on Monday I believe. I'm curious to see how high the demand will stay for these decks in the coming weeks.
My cool LGS was selling them for MSRP and wasn't taking pre-orders to keep it fair for everyone. Managed to snag two Mind Seizes at $30+tax. There is some good in this world.
Will eventually pick up two more when the next wave comes in (or maybe just True-Name Nemesis once its price goes down)

Our Target is empty (not even a place for stock, I don't think the vendor comes until next week). Walmart has them, but my LGS was selling ALL Of them at msrp and had plenty of stock so I bought from him.

Got mine form a big box store at midnight under MSRP. Paid $120 for all 5. Going to try and buy them every week until they run out of stock or start climbing in price.

None of the local targets in my city have them in stock. Talking with a store supervisor, it looks like the vendor didn't drop them off earlier in the week (and leave them for the store to stock Friday). He comes by once a week (Wednesdays) and I'll stop by then to see if he finally drops some off.
Yeah, I didn't see a place for them at my Target either. I went there Friday night and today since I live fairly close to one and they still didn't have anything.
I will stop by Wednesday also to see if they show up.
Just to make a point about price, no big box store prices things based on demand. Even if these had a freaking Black Lotus in them they would still cost whatever MSRP was. So even if True-Name Nemesis becomes a $50 card from this point on they won't make the Grixis deck cost 60 bucks. The people that set prices for Target or Wal-Mart doesn't give a crap about the secondary market value on these.
Toys-R-Us had one of each today at $40 so I bought them thinking it was MSRP
Went to two different targets and neither had gotten them in yet
Went to three different walmarts and each had one or two left and were selling them at MSRP. Given how they were displayed on the shelf, it would appear that each Walmart store I had tried had only received one of each kind.
My LGS is charging $40,$40,$40,$50 (black white blue) and $65 (black blue red) for them.
still need a second black white blue and two more black blue red
All the lgs in my area are selling at msrp, one was on preorder only, another was one per person and didn't have mind seize, 3rd shop had no restrictions and I saw 2 of each deck on display. Never bothered with Walmart/etc. also stopped at a 4shop today for a modern tournament, didn't ask about their stock as I already picked up 3 but also didn't see anything displayed.
Targets near my area I'm vacationing in had all except the grixis deck. Most of the LGS were selling at msrp and weren't gouging. The other boxes aren't selling but I think there is a small group of players here wiping the shelves so a lot of places put up a one per customer limit.

Buying kleenex and laundry detergent, saw the empty space where they were. All sold out.
So they were there, but are not.
