So a pretty sweet card, especially with the satyr hedonist.
turn 1
land, birds of paradise
Turn two
land, satyr hedonist, birds of paradise
turn 3
land, ember swallower
turn 4
profit?
i know its a christmas land scenario, but still nice
Honestly, it's not even all that christmas land. The hedonist is going into decks. Mana doods are going into decks. Play the Swallower (hereafter referred to as DeepThroat) and you WILL hit this farily often enough. Throw in other cards that can benefit from mana doods and hedonist and you're good to go.
What could possibly be better than destroying three of their lands (quite often that's ALL their lands) while having a 7/8 in play, swinging?
Them: Pay 8, Monstrosity?
Me: In response, Doom Blade, thanks for blowing out your hand with worthless Hedonists and mana dorks and having nothing to show for it.
The card is a 4/5 for 4 so he is decent in that he dodges Mizzium Mortars. His monstrosity cost might as well not even be printed on the card.
What red deck wants a non-hasted 4 drop? This card is essentially vanilla and therefor will probably not see constructed play. Sure, it's good in limited, but as I said in another thread, a card that's good in limited is as exciting as confirming that there are 4 tires on my new sports car. It's a requirement for a quality card, the minimum expectation, something that if it weren't there I'd complain, not something I celebrate when it's true.
But yeah, no mono red deck wants this card and any multicolored deck can find better four-drops.
Them: Pay 8, Monstrosity?
Me: In response, Doom Blade, thanks for blowing out your hand with worthless Hedonists and mana dorks and having nothing to show for it.
Honestly, peoples excuses for cards not being good are pathetic. How many times has someone lost a game for having their creature doomblade'd? About the same amount as they've won for your opponent not pulling the proper answer. I'm pretty sure baneslayer angel dies to doomblade. I'm pretty sure 97% of all cards in magic can be countered, destroyed, removed or dealt with in some form or manner (cept for Emrakul. That thing is harsh to deal with). Your "I doomblade it" response is the same reasoning everyone comes up with. Please give me a better excuse and then complain why it isn't a good card. Thanks
Mana dork, mana dork, then this guy with Demolish, Frenzied Tilling, and friends. With the Tilling and mana dorks, the 7 will be easy, and you won't miss the 3 lands.

that's not what happened at all. kamahl stabbed phage, akroma, and some old lady and they became korona. then korona got stabbed by her "prophets" and kamahl got drunk with a mutant centaur
This just gives me more hope for a Crucible of Worlds reprint although I'm not counting on it. Let me remind everyone that Destructive Force was a standard card before and didn't do as much as people thought. So I'm planning on getting one nice and cheap, in the 25-50 cent range. It's a cool card, however, and I hope WotC prints "big LD" (in red) like this more often. Great card name, really good art and cool effect = good card. Anything along the lines of Lotus Cobra showing up will make this a potential standard card... don't worry, Conley Woods will be all over it.
His ability seems to fit Polkranos's name a lot better. Eating three lands from each player sounds a lot more like something a World Devourer would do. "Swallower" just sounds ... perverted.
Please give me a better excuse and then complain why it isn't a good card. Thanks
It has no protection, no evasion, no relevant combat ability, and makes no immediate impact to the board when it hits? And it's a huge mana sink that gets Doom Blade'd. The only thing it has going for it is that it can dodge Mizzium Mortars. That may be good enough to see some play, but it's just a 4CMC 4/5 beater.
Don't get me wrong, it's easily the second best card spoiled so far, but it's certainly not "wow!" worthy.
D force was a standard deck... RUG played it.
Pretty sure that was soley due to Primeval Titans completely busted mana fetching.
Can we get the OP or a MOD to add the card description to the original post? I realize we can just pull up the spoiler on a different page, but it's kind of a PITA each time you want to discuss the card.
Let's table discussion until hings has been played.
The 'dies to removal crowd' will hate monstrosity with a passion. A 30/30 without hexproof would probably need to cost no more than 2, because that's what Doom Blade costs.
In the end, this is a 4/5 for 4 in a red or red/green deck, which is quite frankly a decent fat body for smashing face. On the plus side, if you happen to hit 7 mana first, you have the options and pushing everyone back by three lands, which in the right deck/matchup could be killer.
4/5 for 4 is not worthless. The ability.. is a sideboard-type effect usefull in some situations but not others... but you don't need to switch out a card for it.
Since we have a "dies to removal guy" post, I feel the need to point out what's been pointed out since the game began.
Most things die to removal.
Shocking, I know. It was a surprise to me as well. It's almost like it's a part of the game.

Really I think people are too negative.
4/5 for 4 is the best thing about the card. The fact it dodged Mortars may get it into some midrange decks. But it's not really "exciting", given the quality of it;s ability it will basically be treated as a vanilla creature.
Like I said, IMO, easily the second best card spoiled so far after the Boros dude. But nothing "wow" worthy

Wow! Just wow! How many bad points can one post make?
First: No tempo gain? Really? T1: mana dork. T2 Hedonist. T3: Deepthroat T4: Blow up 3 lands on each side. Now let's say you're on the play. That's ALL their lands and you still have TWO mana sources and a 7/8 critter. Suppose in response you DO Doom Blade it. I still have two mana and you have NONE. Do you know what tempo even means?
Sure, it dies to Doom Blade. But when it doesn't, you win. That's the definition of a good card.
Second: Vanilla. A 4/5 for 4 and your gripe is it doesn't have hexproof, intimidation or flying....in red? REALLY?
Third: Makes no immediate impact on the board. A 4/5? Aggro has to two for one itself just to get rid of it so they can keep swinging. Even if you don't Monstrosity, if you have any mana accel it hits T3 and I hear 4/5 blockers on T3 are pretty good for hosing aggro.
T1: mana dork. T2 Hedonist. T3: Deepthroat T4: Blow up 3 lands on each side.
And there it is, the final proof of a bad card, the infamous "T1 do something, T2 do something, T3 do something, T4 I win" argument. Saying a card is good because your opponent lets yo reel off 4 turns and never interacts with you or your board.

Yours as well. You aren't gaining any tempo.

You spend mana on him, then spend even more mana on him all for nothing if removed in response to the activation.
Where is "dies to removal" not valid? Baneslayer angel

Thank you for proving my point.
And if you have both, you have that choice. It's called proper deck building.
