I for one can tell you that the only boosters of this set I will open will be at the prereleases of each set in this block. I was seriously considering buying a case of this set. You can completely forget that now.
I'll buy/trade for a playset of a few rares I like once prices calm down and I'm done.
Individuals actually buy cases? How often have you dropped $700 at once on a magic xpac? lol
Well, don't know if this was brought up in all 57 pages (forgive me for skipping a good thirty of what I thought was probably complaining about the lands), but do you think given the names of the lands we have the relevant domains of each of the Dual Gods?
Temple of Abandonment sure sounds like Xenagos the Revelers place. Abandon yourself to passion? Just saying, you could probably match up the rest with the Gods purview.

I was thinking something similar, like those are the "titles" of the gods
(like Kruphix, God of Mystery and Iroas, God of Triumph).

I wasn't happy about it, but I preordered 8 lands at $4.97 per land. Given the overwhelming propensity of evidende, these lands will be $8-10 in Standard rotation, so I'm hedging bets for financial reasons.
I am NOT happy about it, but for less than the cost of a single Voice of Resurgence I'll take my chances. They might surprise me, and if not, well... **** it.
(This is not the attitude I should be having about incoming duals. I should be excited, even happy. WotC screwed the pooch.)
Yeah. Screw WOTC for not consulting you, specifically.
More like screw WOTC for not consulting 99.99% of their playerbase. It's also a piss-poor marketing decision, because good rare duals sell packs. These, not so much.
Slowing down the format is good. This would have been a fine cycle at uncommon with no rare dual lands. But taking up rare slots is just... bad.

That is, in my opinion, the very essence of this whole argument.
You *shouldn't* feel like you're getting fleeced for subpar Duals.
These are the only Duals in recent memory that have been met with such disdain.
The Scars lands and Lorwyn Tribal lands are the only Modern Rare cycles I can think of that are potentially upsetting,
and even there, some of the Fastlands saw play, and Secluded Glen is basically an unfetchable Underground Sea in a Faeries deck.
These have their place, but as the "face" of mana for this block,
they are disappointing, which is not how Rare Duals are supposed to feel.
Unless there is a bunch more solid gold in the set,
I suspect Theros will not sell as well as they planned.

Yeah. Screw WOTC for not consulting you, specifically.
Do you want Wizards to continually piss off and alienate their player base completely? Did you play during the Fallen Empires and Homelands era? I did and it wasn't pretty. Do you want them doing **** like that continuously? If we as players don't make ourselves heard when they screw something up how will they know to think twice next time they are about to do it again.
If we don't let them know what we think in a way they will respond to how do you expect them not to do it again? Do you relish the thought of more uncommon rares? You have no right to complain when they keep doing this kind of garbage.
Unless there is a bunch more solid gold in the set,
I suspect Theros will not sell as well as they planned.
At this point I'm predicting that the second set in the block will be another Worldwake, with nothing really worthwhile in it except for one chase rare that ends up worth triple digits a year down the line because nobody bought the set.
I did not like the scry lands. I think almost players think the same.
They are underpowered, they make you decrease/lose drops.
They are only usefull in late game decks/controll.
It is clear the hate against RTR on mana base once RTR is heavy colored.
And I think shock lands and fetchlands should be eternal standard with a special rarity control. In modern it is possible to fetch lands, but in standard we are vulnerable to mana color screw or we'll have a slower game.
Three colored decks are inviable now. Even m14 does not have lands... The game should be directed to the players...

These are all net positives though. The only problem is that these are uncommons in a rare slot.
The game needs to be slower, and more than two colors SHOULD have a significant drawback to it. Stupid manabases are fun and all, but they let you get away with way too much.
Storyline pretty much points to Xenagos becoming a God at somepoint. Also, saying it fits his theme doesn't mean he is a God, just that he pretty much fits the theme. Reveling and abandoning oneself to pleasure does not constitute being a God. He might just follow the God of Abandoment to passion and nature.
These are the worst cards EVER in this or any game.
I scryed 1 and the top card of my library was cancer.
I'm going to kill myself and then quit Magic.
This made me lol so hard I woke up my sleeping newborn >.<
Honestly, I don't think these are that bad. They were obviously designed to produce a different type of standard than we've had the last few years. It also seems like a lot of the cards in this set and in M14 value synergy between groups of cards as opposed to "good stuff" decklists as I have not seen any card the likes of Thundermaw Hellkite that just makes you go, "If R then yes" when deciding to use the card. Personally, I prefer that. I like "hidden" value and interactions between cards. I'll be excited to play a good stuff deck two or three times then I'm bored. Decks with neat interactions and unexpected results (the concept, not the card) really get my creative juices flowing. It makes me want to play the deck as many times as possible so I can experience it as many different ways as possible. It would seem that Wizards wants to push Standard that direct, at least for a little while. I also think that deck brewing is one of the most fun aspects of MtG.
I do also want to mention though that I understand that Uncommon in a Rare slot feeling. Heck, there were even times in RTR and Gatecrash that I got disappointed when my rare was a shock if it wasn't one of the color combos I gave a crap about. I get it, but man, I do really like these lands, and I even like the direction of standard (that I believe it is moving in, whether that's actually where its going or not remains to be seen).
Is not having viable 3 color decks so damaging to the game/format? What did you do during ZEN/SOM & SOM/INN? What if they even went so far after Ravnica rotates to push a mono favored standard where running a 2 color deck was simply too clunky? Is that so bad? Are you complaining because these lands are truly that bad or is not being able to build 3+ color decks that upsetting? (I'm not being sarcastic, I'm seriously asking these questions). Mono colored decks can be fun too!
The following link is an invitation to join Pucatrade (card trading service though similar to TCGPLayer). If you follow the link then it awards me with tokens to exchange for actual cards. Thanks! https://pucatrade.com/invite/gift/86097

They are for the dual gods but Xenegos isn't one of them
Never, who pays that much for boxes. I've never paid more than $525 for a case. I've bought cases of Revised, Saga, Tempest, and RTR.
Many people buy cases. Opening packs is fun. Also not all MTG players are poor.
Not sure being unwilling to buy in such bulk constitutes a financially poor player lol. There just seems to be more efficient ways to get all you need out of a set. Whatever, enjoy your cases Uncle Pennybags.
They are for the dual gods but Xenegos isn't one of them
Confirmation that he isn't one of the Dual Gods as well? Well, that causes both headscratching and some happiness over how things worked. Still say that Xenagos sure seems like a follower of that belief system either way.

These lands are good. If you think these lands are bad, you are either so locked into playing three-color aggro decks that you've lost all perspective or you started playing right after Innistrad came out. Or both. Or you know a lot less than you think you do, but I really shouldn't have to spell that one out about Rumor Mill posters.
So, looks like the lands are up for pre-order on TCGPlayer. You can snag 'em for about $6/each. If you're the type who likes market speculation, I'd suggest buying these now.
Worst case, you'd lose maybe about $2/land... best case, you stand to double your money. I figure that the most likely scenario is that you'll profit about $3-4 a land if they end up being really popular.

My method for telling whether he's a god is easy. I look at his card and it looks like a planeswalker, and not like a god card
I've sigged this link so that I have something to reference to whenever someone wants to know exactly why they're rare.
If people disagree with WotC's decision, that's one thing, but many many many people seem to just be confused as to WHY they are rare... this link should make those people much happier.

They aren't going to be 9-10 dollars. That's around what most of the shocklands are at right now, and the shocklands are not only way better in Standard, but are also half of the modern manabase. They will probably stay where they are right now.
It turns these into Invasion Taplands and messes with Scry quite well for a measly 1.
