For some completely bizarre reason, they kept scheduling Modern GPs in "flyover country." This is not a good idea- the more invested regions with greater card availability are going to be the denser high-population ones in California or the upper/mid East Coast or midwest. Boston makes far, far more sense as a location than San Antonio for this reasons.
In case I didn't tell you, I don't care about your opinion I just want your facts. And not the facts that make you seem smart. I want the ones that are actual facts.
Am I seeing this right? The second Modern GP without coverage? The stupid Limited GP is getting coverage why not the Modern event?
Well this makes more sense. They haven't really ever had video GP coverage for a APAC/Japan GP. Only reason we get Japan GPs covered is because it is done through NicoNico.
From Wizards' perspective, Limited directly sells packs. Modern mostly lives through the secondary market. So...
That shouldn't necessarily affect the video coverage though, should it?
Isn't Modern just like strictly more interesting to watch than limited? Why do I care about what someone pulled in a pack versus actual constructed archetypes fighting it out?
If I were Wizards I'd want to show people the more interesting stuff rather than "what sells well".
Even more disturbing though, is the fact that Wizards thinks it has to pick one to cover rather than just, oh I don't know, covering them both...

I must be the minority then......cause every time I see coverage of Limited I want to go outside and play chicken with semi trucks on the freeway, not go buy packs...
Hey, I didn't say I'd enjoy watching Limited. I was merely arguing from the point-of-view of business.
People thought Detroit might be an anomaly or something, but really? Two consecutive GPs? It's not like the undersea cables are at capacity, nor is bandwidth over them that expensive.

In this case though, it comes down to getting a crew in the area to actually broadcast the thing. It is not cheap to fly out equipment to a GP Location, especially one that is across the Pacific. In Europe and America this is not as big of an issue.

For now...
I don't think it has to do with the profit of wizards, though. I think it just has to do with whoever is organizing it. It is a shame, but what can you do?
So, it looks like they changed the San Antonio GP from Modern to Standard now without saying anything about it. Am I the only person who finds that strange and very irritating?

Even the Wikipedia page still shows it as being Modern, and if Wikipedia doesn't pick up on something, then it likely wasn't announced. Someone would have noticed.
Ah, so they did! Well, hey, that's better. At least for people like me who live a whole lot closer to Boston than they do to San Antonio.
And profound sadness for people like me who live a whole lot closer to San Antonio than we do to Boston.

I support WotC's goal of shaping Modern in favor of diversity.
I ran a thought experiment on my blog Modern in a Nuclear Wasteland
of an extreme case of banning 20 more cards to make sure they get everything, then scaling back where appropriate. WotC seems to be on a slowly build up approach. Both ways probably reach similar end points.
The post Gatecrash metagame is proving to be closer to the endpoint than I estimated, so its very possible that few (if any) more cards need to be banned.
There isn't a single gp on or near the west coast. That's pretty annoying.
San Antonio was somewhat close to LA? Maybe they'll keep tweaking this schedule...

GP Detroit 2: Electric Boogaloo.
what's dead is this thread because the OP has been answered and the last few posts make very little sense.
For now...

Also, what is going on in this thread exactly?

Indeed, this is correct, and here is confirmation and reasoning as to why:
