I am partial to Red-Blue decks, but without any Izzet type cards, i am currently using Red-Blue and Black. I am an active forum member, even though i have just started.
well add you as Test subject and then you will progress...
1. The rule change came out of nowhere. I cannot recall any player ever complaining that there could only exist one legendary/unique permanent on the field. WotC just up and decided to fix what wasn't broken. It makes me think they're not in tune with they're players, since they'll just choose to do whatever they want. That makes me really lose faith in the development of this game...
Considering WotC is a company that has access to resources and data that can encompass the entire magic playing audience I would argue that they have a much better idea of what players are looking for than any one individual who's opinions can only at best be based on local play groups and online communities, neither of which represent the entire community as a whole (remember there are players that don't belong to either of these groups).
Also, and this is just speculation, it's likely Theros will have a small legendary subtheme, which probably is what made them investigate this further. No one may have been asking for it now, but maybe they were asking for it during Theros play tests.
2. The writer cited that the change would "provide a better overall gameplay" for players, which is a baffling assumption on its own. Who could possibly know what is best for anyone, let alone the millions of players worldwide?
If I had to guess, probably people who's job it is to make the game.
What defines "better gameplay experience"? How does limiting interaction between players by diving the battlefield into two separate worlds make for a better experience?
They very clearly explained why they think it creates a better experience, all that's left is wether or not you agree with what they've said. It seems that you don't, which is fine, but if what WotC says is true for more people than it is false, is that not the correct decision?
3. It increases the ability to abuse legendary status... Your opponents might not be able to clone-kill your stuff anymore, but there are now more ways to abuse legends/uniques. Namely, using abilities, killing the first legend/unique and using the ability again... That doesn't sound cheesy at all.
You're acting like the legend rule is now some huge upside. The whole "using the ability again" thing works for every other creature in the game, except for the fact that with other creatures, they stay on the battlefield. The legend rule is still a downside, now it's just less of one.
With planeswalkers I agree that the ability to get two uses adds a lot more room for potential abuse, but for legends i don't see how they've suddenly become more "abusable" than any other creature in the game. (you could agrue death triggers, but IMO this rule makes death triggers less abusable than before, not more.)
4. Because hexproof troll isn't hard enough to kill already...
Except that it isn't. Thrun saw essentially no play because of one card: Phantasmal Image. Thrun is supposed to be almost impossible to kill, especially for blue. Instead, he got shut down because of the legend rule. That's the kind of thing that shouldn't happen.
5. Shouldn't there be a drawback to what should be (though admittedly not always are) powerful creatures? If these creatures are truly unique in the multiverse, why can two of them exist on the battlefield? Quantum theory completely breaks down and disbelief can no longer be suspended in the face of such glaring existential problems.
Oh sorry, I thought we were playing a game about magic
Don't get me wrong, I love continuity and universal laws and all that jazz as much as the next guy, but somewhere between throwing fireballs at eachother and summoning Cthulhu, I think we can accept having two of the same person fighting each other is acceptable. Every fantasy story has something to this effect in one way or another. Yes, it's a bit awkward that we can both summon the same person, but I feel like that's an acceptable loss to finally be able to copy them. I mean, before now a legend couldn't even fight it's own Evil Twin. (In a perfect world, I would have the legend rule work how it used to for multiple players, work the way it does now just for you, but always ignore clone effects, but obviously that's way too complex.)
The game always has flavor issues. My elephant can carry a sword. My Venser can fight my Venser. A cat can defeat a trained soldier in battle. Flavor is never going to be perfect, so I don't think that me being able to clone a legend with my... clone... is such a huge issue.
It was at that moment that I realized: I'm kinda just making these things up. We can just write the rules the way we want them to work. People will have fun, and people will get it.
Just lost to my freinds stupid artifact deck. Worst than a burn deck by far. He gets 10 Artifact-creatures out in the first 5 turns because of affinity. Anybody know if there is a card that prevents artifacts from being played? If not i'll have to add a few kill switch Cards to my deck.
Oh My god just imagine the legend rule changing 4 kaalia players killing each other. Any ways I got 2 melek izzet paragon gameday promos do you think these are going to go up in price like doran the siege tower full art promo top 8?
I am formally resigning my membership in the Izzet League.
I'll always be a guildmage at heart, though! I'd appreciate being on the friends list.
sad panda:( you were one of reasons I am still here , will update list...
Update : We are getting a photo scavenger contest set up in CC.
Also I have something to say to clan: I respect each and everyone of you, but I am also debating on switching to another clan.
I feel that as being the Izzet rep, I do not fit the true wishes of the clan , and mostly just act on what I feel right. I felt it honest of me to tell you guys publicly. This is not decided yet though.

Kewl. Did you win the entire tourney, or just that particular game? And if you won the tourney, what was the entry fee? (Just trying to figure out if $4 store credit is a fair prize... )
Lately, my Obzedat EDH has made quite an impression. I'll probably work on it a little more until I find a better balance of reanimate effects with the removal and sac/tokens I'm working with now.
RivalCCG in Lb/Signal Hill. Now, I go very occasionally. Their tourneys are Sundays at, like, 5.... which is a surprisingly inconvenient time for me
I usually just head over to friends' houses, since we're all pretty much on the same page as far as power level and nanners are concerned. Actually, I just started playing with a new group (on different days than when I play with my usual group). They're pretty casual/budget, so I've been able to try out more fun deck options than I'd usually play.
Someone in that new group is playing Orzhov, too (Teysa 2.0). I've taken sick pleasure in comparing our decks and noting how much more mine is despised than his XP
Anyways, none of my playgroups do tourneys by ourselves or anything. dangit, who do you usually plat with, and how often do you do EDH tourneys?
