I don't even care; I'm happy that my wallet wont be hungry when prerelease comes around. Now to figure out how I'm going to play my Esper Commander or put it away and see what happens with "Commander 2013".
Play Sharuum! Whether you go combo or reanimator, she's a really fun and versatile commander.

I was thinking Sen Trips with a few small things and counters and then gigantor stompies like Blightsteel Falafel and Sphinx of Key Words. I'll just troll the game by doing nothing and waiting for something to happen while I just play land/end, exactly as planned for Esper.

Nah, play Sharuum, you can put the triplets in the deck. Sharuum can cheat them outta the graveyard. Then you have all sorts of tutors. Fabricate, Sphinx Summoner, Tezzeret the Seeker(who can pull artifact lands for zero), Faerie Mechanist and Tezzeret AoB can both dig for artifacts, your usual EDH black Tutors(Vampiric, Demonic, Diabolic), I like Beseech the Queen, and Increasing Ambition.
Am I the only one excited about Silence on a stick in Standard?

Beseech the Queen is REALLY bad unless you absolutely need it. I'd take almost any tutor before it. It's expensive, has a restriction, and on top of it all reveals the card.
Bah, so what? It'll be even funnier as they waste time trying to stop it while I counter with something else. My commander games sometimes don't necessarily involve me winning; just doing the most over the top, ridiculous things around the table with my Bolas hat on, laughing maniacally, cough in between and laugh again, swing Merit Lage for 20, then Fling it.

Wow, holy crap I need to RFTC something fierce. I've been playing Beseech as a straight tutor...and no one caught that either... Oh well, now I know what to take out to put in another tutor.
@RG lmao, that's all fine and dandy, the format was created for casual play. It should be fun. Tutors help you get those fun pieces though, so you can do bonkers stuff like that. Some other tutors, grim tutor (though it's a bit overpriced because of limited availability, unless you already have it since you have devastation), library of lat-nam is either draw 3 or tutor, diabolic intent and demonic collusion both help you get stuff in the graveyard to cheat with Sharuum(I suggest Magister Sphinx or Summoner Sphinx sac for intent, and discard Sphinx Sovereign and Sphinx of the Steel Wind for collusion), and Skyship Weatherlight or Mangara's Tome if you're feeling particularly Colorless.
Aja will like this one. I was playing against Relentless Rats(Marrow Knawer)EDH and Kreko recently, held a Counterspell for Thrumming Stone that didn't happen, but what did happen was Coat of Arms. With Dimir Signet, 2 Artifact Lands, Etherium Sculptor, and Grand Architect....Master of Etherium got huge. Krenko and the Tokens of Ridiculogoblins got taken out by 6 Relentless Rats for burning the Rat player, a turn after Goblin Recruiter searched for a crap ton of key pieces and on my turn I cast Mind Funeral. back to my turn 1 on 1, and I cast Sharuum and cheat Magister Sphinx and tell the Rat girl She now has one turn left. Beseech isn't optimal, but can work in the right deck. My Storm EDH actually likes the card, as I can cast it for 6 off High Tide mana and keep the non-boosted B for other important stuff.
As for an Esper general, I'd suggest something a bit off the beaten path. Dakkon Blackblade with a land-stealing theme?

Speaking of Storm, I've been meaning to ask, in the trailer WotC made for MM, the chick at the office mentions "the Storm card they were too chicken to reprint." Which card are they referring to? I'm assuming either Ignite Memories, or Volcanic Awakening. I'm pretty sure Haze of Rage wasn't it.

So every year, a bunch of my friends and I do a competition to see who can make the best 40 card (minimum) deck for dirt cheap. We don't really set a price range as long as we don't use cards over like $0.75 based on the lowest price of a card you can find. We all order the decks separately, and then have a day where all 11, or so, of us get together and have a round robin tournament and drink some beer. Now I look at this as a thing to have fun and make stupid decks that are still decent (I've won 3 of the last 5) usually by taking a silly card and building around it. However, there's always that one guy who takes it too seriously and plays aggro and just drops Triumph of the Hordes to win.

@aja Is Sanguine Bond + Exquisite Blood Overlap in Standard until October Johnny enough for you? Decklist for giggles:
The deck is completely in theory, I suck at combos, so alternative decklist are encouraged. The idea is to Ramp while Salvaging or Mulching, getting the combo in the Graveyard, then using Renaissance to get them both out. From there you Reap anyone to trigger an Artist, you can chump block if someone is dumb enough to attack, or Rogue's Passage to squeak one in. In a perfect world, you could pull this off turn 3 - 4. If too many elves or Artists get killed or dredged, Servitude is a 4 - 5 drop to empty the G.Y. back on the field. If it's horrible, I apologize. If someone can tweak it to make it work, I'd love to see it.

With a tournament-laden week-end, I'll sure have my healthy dose of turning stuff sideways in the next few days. Also, I did my most likely last MM draft. Today, I drafted something nearly completely different.
I open a big white dragon. Way to start a draft! He is joined by a pair of Glacial Rays and Grinning Ignus (is R/W Storm a thing?), but then both red and white dry up. Instead, the table brute-forces me into green. Imperiosaur, Wasp, Baloth (a foil one, too!), and a Reach thrown in for good measure. After the first booster, I look like solidly in green, most likely with red for the burn. Spliced Ray on Reach does sound like a lot of value. The second booster? Reveillark, followed by Tribal Flames, two (!) Thundercloud Shamans, an additional Reach and Woodfall Primus - apparently, no-one except for the person with the two Kodama's Reaches considers 5GGG a doable mana cost. In my third booster, I'm forced to choose between Cloudgoat Ranger and a foil Kitchen Finks. Since I'm still not fully sold on white (only have Lark and the dragon), I take the shiny hybrid card and round out the deck with a second dinosaur and the Terramorphic Expanse. Then, my booster comes back, and I can't believe my luck. What's that Cloudgoat Ranger still doing in the booster? Seems like I do have to play my white, after all ...
After some lengthy considerations (should I run that one island for Trygon Predator? Is a splash of two double-white cards sensible? Is Woodfall Primus worth it?) I settle on ...
The difference to my 'basic' MM Domain? No Tromp (:(), no Oracles, and I'm short a colour.
Round 1 pairs me against B/W Rebels. I go turn 3 Finks to deter him, but he doesn't seem to find W. When he finally finds a plains and tries to flood the board with rebels, War-Spike Changeling and Thundercloud Shaman team up for a one-sided Wrath, followed by tons of damage to him. The second game, he paths my Finks and starts swinging, but I follow up with Reach, am suddenly 2 lands up and start playing my fatties. This time, Thundercloud teams with Cloudgoat Ranger for the one-sided board wipe (ok, the Kithkin got stepped on too). Facing down lethal, my opponent suicides in style with Death Cloud.
Round 2 is again B/W without the rebels, but with several recursion loops and a powerful late-game. And in fact, the games turn out super grindy and intense. In the first game, my Riftsweeper catches a suspended Phthisis and I can safely deploy my fatties. Yosei dominates the air until my opponent finds his Stinkweed Imp. I burn it to attack, while the ground becomes more and more crowded. Of course, next turn, the imp is back. Eventually, I run the dragon into it, tap down his board, force him to skip his untap, and swing for lethal with two Imperiosaurs.
The second game, I'm flooded like there's no tomorrow and die to having 11 lands in play, 3 in hand and a dragon busy staring at a tapper while I get beaten to death by all sorts of creatures.
Game 3, we both deploy our forces and trade removal back and forth. A Thundercloud Shaman clears the ground a bit, but he just recurs his stuff with his Warren Pilferers, and no-one can attack profitably. Until I draw into Reveillark, which he can't stop.
I would really have loved to play the third game (against U/R Storm), but my opponent had to leave early.
Thanks to my Mind-taking skills, I managed to snag the M14 B/R intro deck and pulled a Traumatize and Oath of the Ancient Wood. Then I also got the Promo Bonescythe Sliver. I was hoping I would pull better but it was worth the chance to pull something since I can't hit the Prerelease.
@ Nate's Elite Arcanist/Isochron Scepter: From today's Comprehensive Rules update, you might like that one.
Quote from Matt Tabak »
If a card with a pair of linked abilities refers to a single object by using "the exiled card," "a card exiled with [this card]," or a similar phrase, and there are multiple exiled cards it could be referring to, it's referring to all of them.
Basically, if you manage to stick 2 instants into the mage, you pay for both and can cast both.
@ Nate's Elite Arcanist/Isochron Scepter: From today's Comprehensive Rules update, you might like that one.
Basically, if you manage to stick 2 instants into the mage, you pay for both and can cast both.
So, for instance, if I use Strionic Resonator to copy Elite Arcanist's EtB Imprint, I could put, let's say, Silence and Hidden Strings(obviously can't cipher it) and cast either or both? Or do I have to cast both?
Btw, Your draft story came at the perfect time yesterday. Like I said before, I'm usually in assembly at work, but for the last 2 weeks my line has been laid off and I've been in molding. It's god awful monotony, and I was dying of boredom until you posted. Thank you for that, It's hard enough to focus (ADHD) running my butt off on a line as it is. Standing and waiting for plastic pieces to drop out of a mold is just grueling.
If I were to imprint Far//Away or Toil//Trouble on Archanist, do I have to pay equal to both CMC, even if I only cast one side? Because some really "smart" non-judge types are posting rules all over the Elite Arcanist Thread and I don't trust most of them non-judge rule-sayers.
@RG Very nice. where'd you get an intro pack before the prerelease? That Traumatize looks like fun in your Lazav EDH deck. I like it in Melek, Izzet Paragon EDH, him + Resonator + Dual Casting/Reverberate/Twincast/any combo of the 3 + Rings of Brighthearth = mill for craptons! I agree with you from before, sometimes it's more fun doing something just absolutely nutty than winning. :-D
