I want to build one, but the problem with me posting lists on the forum and asking others for help is the meta game.
My metagame isn't one of those "combo is popular" or "must hate control". My meta game takes shapes like "Chris isn't a great player", "Gab doesn't like complicated cards", "Matt is a hard core spike", "Shawn hates planeswalkers". I have multiple group, and they are in no way even. On group has a couple of modern equivalent decks. Another's decks might be as strong as Block contructed decks (even if they contain new and old cards). The strongest group I have is around my level, the next one in terms of strength seems very "I found this cool combo online so I use it, I wouldn't be able to explain how it works but I know what it does", my decks seem unfair there, cause I know more/do things. The third one is less powerful, a bit because of self imposed restrictions (less focus on outright winning and more on having fun), people there can craft cool creative combos (this is where my atogatog deck would fit in the most). Then is the Block constructed level deck. They have decks like GB Sheoldred x 3, ramp, and random black/green cards with very little synergy. Or GU limited folder from 7 sets. I don't fairly like playing vs those decks as either its a massacre, or I get bored out of my mind playing saproling tribal.
In autumn I think I'll add another playgroup, made of guys who just want to ahrdcore win, but don't know how, so I estimate they'll be the middle playgroup.
And this is where my cube comes in.
People on these forums seem to advocate the strongest cube possible is the best.
I don't think it's the case for me. I'd like to make my cube have two things. Being able to be played very different ways. Making it as strong as I can is bad for this. If only 3 decks are viable, I'd be unhappy. If I scrap/make those decks weaker then maybe 6 decks would be playable. So on. So I want to make the cube weaker. I want to add more cool multicolored cards, even if it lowers the power level. I want to have archetypes that aren't valid.
The problem is that I can't really get much help from the cube forum in that way. Not only is that not the way most make cubes (I wonder if someone will say "U R not Doin it rite") but most people won't have experience making a cube like that.
We are having a CDCC competition in the Casual forums and we are having difficulty getting people to vote for the best deck. So if you can spare a minute of your time, we would greatly appreciated your vote (even if you don't vote for my deck :D) .
I usually stumble upon a combo with card A and card B. Then I add other cards that go with card A and card B so that they aren't dead draws if I don't get the combo. Then I add support cards like removal, counters, ramp, etc.
So I'm working on a deck called 99 Problems but a Threat ain't one.
The shop I play at has a divide between it's EDH players. The ones who get butt hurt over everything (tons of arbritary house rules and bans) and then the guys I play with. I wanna build this deck and troll the owner of the store, who runs the league and is the main offender. And basically just stop him from doing anything. I want all the hate to be targeted so it's obvious what I'm doing.
The rage storm that follows will be glorious!

Hey all - been a while since I dropped by. It's been a wild ride trying to graduate. I need to completely revamp my portfolio to graduate as a prop modeler (for video games).
Hey, I'd like to get to know all of you on a deeper, friendlier level. If anyone is up to it, PM me your name/email and I'll find you on facebook (if you're ok w/ that). We're a clan & I'd like more interaction on my/your part. I'm putting the best foot forward for friendship if it is accepted.
BlackVise! (I know, always you) but I'm starting to play vintage/legacy like decks at our kitchen table (we are doing tournaments for bragging rights!)
Thing is: Vintage ban list and no restricted list. Then at the end of each tournament night, we ban cards from the top 3 decks (first place gets 3 banned, 2nd gets 2, 3rd gets 1) and they stay banned for 5 tournaments. (The other ban list is my budget)
I love storm combo, so I'm playing ANT. And making tons of storm decks. I made High tide last time and came 2nd after Tempered Steel.
I'd like to discuss a few things with you. The tournament has no sideboards, which kinda means whoever has the most gimmicky answer me or die deck wins. And the meta game ranged from white weenies, to 5CC, to high tide, to tempered steel to Immortal Servitude last time. Decks are really not what you'd expect. Dredge would win if I have Bazaars but those are expensive.
I second Stoogeslap's idea for clan members to share a little more about their personal lives.
I'll start by sharing a little of my MTG history. I started playing right before Ice Age came out with a group of friends when I was in the Navy. When I got out of the Navy, I got my friends at home into MTG. After playing casual with my friends for a few years, I got into a huge fight with my ex girlfriend and I threw away my whole collection.
A couple years later, my friends got married and moved away and that was it for my playgroup. I started frequenting an LGS, doing mostly mini masters and limited. When I got married, going to the LGS stopped and now I play MTG once a year when I go to visit my friend in Ohio. For the rest of the year, I playtest my 64 casual decks.
When my kids get a little older, I may start doing FNM once or twice a month.

I started playing around Ravnica, after buying a deck off someone for $20. That was maybe worth $2. I then bought cards/singles from my lgs. They also ripped me off. I would also started buying packs there when Time Spiral came out. I traded in an Ancestral Vision(peak in standard ~$21) for a Plated Slagwurm He told me the deal was in my favor, but I looked like a good kid so he'd let me have it (I was 13, and I've always been short and looked young for my age.) I then quit magic during time spiral, but kept following it although I stopped buying/playing.
We then started playing again (with proxies) during Shards of Alara. Then back again with normal cards during Zendikar. I started drafting with RoE. Then I started ordering cards online. Went to the Scars prerelease. And haven't been to one since.
My first deck was the GW one I bought from the guy for $20. I never even played it, and took it apart instantly for a mono green deck. It looked like this (after buying singles):
Then I bought the TS White Weenie deck precon (which I kinda still have, the only cards in it now that came from it (or were printed back then are 4 Knight of the Holy Nimbus and 21 Plains)
Then I bought the Green/Black Thallid saproling deck. I still have it but unsleeved it last week. Minor Alterations since then. Only 6 cards after Future Sight (I remember buying the cards to finish the deck right after I stopped playing, just in case I'd come back.)
I also bought the Planar Chaos RB madness deck (which I loved and decided to remake last year, I still love it, and it's much better now.)
Then everything else is less nostalgic and more boring.
I started playing in Shards. Having friends who were experienced in the game caused me to go from noob to proficient really quickly. I never really got much into standard but I really loved limited and I'm good at it too. I can pretty much always make packs. Around and a half years ago, my friend started telling me about EDH. He didn't play it but he had heard of it. So we looked up the rules and started building decks. I built a Thraximundar deck and a Memnarch deck. He built Elesh Norn. We grabbed another friend handed him one of my decks (Thrax if I recall) and we instantly fell in love and have been playing ever since.
Oh and I became a judge almost two years ago. Cause I'm boss.

Do you want to stick to combo? You could try Worldgorger Dragon and then once it's been nerfed switch over to a Mike/Trike combo deck pretty easily. If not I think a control deck would be a great option as you could have a lot of cards banned and still find replacements for them.
That is funny. On my desk and in an envelope I gotta pick up there are these cards:
4x Animate Dead
4x Dance of the Dead
4x Piranha Marsh
4x Read the Runes
4x Lim-Dul's Vault
4x Jeweled Amulet
3x Necromancy
4x Last Rites
4x Duskmantle, House of Shadow
4x Venarian Glimmer
2x Abandon Hope
1x Ambassador Laquatus
4x Bloodrite Invoker
4 World Gorger Dragon
And tons of Blue/black cantrips and control cards.
I will admit that I haven't been playing for all 20 years since ice age. I had a 7 year hiatus while I was addicted to Ultima Online. I only bought a handful of packs between Torment and Morningtide. One of my biggest regrets is missing out on Ravnica.
I've really powered my Worldgorger list down now as it just kept winning games far too easily, but my most common win condition ended up being Laboratory Maniac facilitated by Duskmantle and Think Twice.
Banned. Out of my High tide deck from last week. Can't use it for 5 "weeks" (we usually play once every two weeks though).
I do have an extra lab maniac. It went with my Narcomoeba x 4, Dread Return, Angel of Glory Rise, Azami Combo for when I deck myself.
The current list is pretty awful and I don't have anything written down from when it was really good, but here's an early version that I actually posted in the Casual forum before putting the deck together. This was a Worldgorger/Doomsday hybrid version, but hopefully it'll still give you some ideas!
It was Christmas Eve at my families cabin in the Arrowhead Mountain's area, circa 1994. The Dark was released a few months ago and Fallen Empire's hadn't been released yet. My cousin told me about this game that he enjoyed. After all of the family (except Matt) was asleep, Matt taught me how to play the game. We were up an extra 3 hours.
Magic was big among the geeks at my school. We either played Magic or D&D 2.5/3.0 (depended on what the current GM wanted). I played until around 2000 - then took a break from the game when I went to Cal State Lon Beach. After I graduated I saw that the game was stilling be played. So I got back into it a few weeks before Ravnica came out. During Ravnica block I joined MTGSalvation.
I now play at a Denny's in Costa Mesa, CA every Friday night w/ a great group of gamers. We have a regular crowd of 8 - 10 (a few nights during the year we can see our group blossom into 12 - 16 people).
My g/f (whom I will marry some day) wants to learn the game, but has been too preoccupied to sit down and practice. I have built her 5 starter decks that have a little bit if everything (controls, tribal, creatures, pretty much every evergreen keyword, etc...).
If any of you are from Southern California, I'd be up to get in some games in real time. And of any of you visit SoCal, don't forget about me. You are more than welcome to get in some Friday night games w/ my group. We're casual kitchen tablers!
I was thinking about a new deck idea earlier and got started wondering how people actually think of new decks - do you see a particular card and try to use it, build around a particular flavor, or try to do a new take on an old concept?
Looking at my own decks I very much fall into the latter category most of the time (the exception being my now dismantled Lost in the Woods deck, which was pure awesome flavor :D). So, where do you guys draw most of your inspiration for decks from?
I play a lot of tribes. As soon as a lord is printed, I jump on the lord (dogpile on the wabbit anyone?) and build a deck. Or I'll begin to see over time that a certain theme/idea is created and build a deck around it, like my Cellar Door deck, that makes zombie tokens, even though it is a blue/white deck. I send cards to the bottom of the library and pop out token. Here's the deck list for this jankiness-o'-fun:
Ain't it sweet??? Other decks are multiple color-combinations of that idea. I have 3 discard decks: black/white, black/blue, & red/black/blue (it also has a good amount of bounce to deal w/ permanents).
Actually BV, I'm interested in your best version of WGD.dec. Do you remember anything about it? I'd like to try to piece a deck back together. I know it's a bit different for me as it isn't vintage metagame based nor do we have sideboards but I'd like to see if you've found hidden gems.
