Fair enough, GR. I'm not trying to come off as abrasive - I just want the facts to be straight.
@mr: And that's threatening...how, exactly? Am I misunderstanding what you're saying? Because it also sounds like you think that the users that are requesting their data not be transferred over the Curse network are being 'threatened' because they are making that request. Is that what you are implying? Additionally, what alternative do you propose?

Yes, that is how I see it. Simply because of how the mods have treated users in the past. How they will cover up for each other. I'd point out the mod but apparently it's not ok.

Masterraid: I'd appreciate it if you would allow me to speak for myself instead of trying to interpret what I have said. If there's something you think comes across differently from the plaintext way I've written it, it's better to ask me than to assume what I mean.
We have a number of users here who are upset that a Curse account was created without their permission. I offered to see if we can delete those accounts for them, and then cautioned that, should they be tied to their 'Salvation accounts, those accounts may be deleted as well. If the major issue here is 'I have a Curse account', then deleting those accounts is an easy way to fix that.
I've been talking to one of the technicians for the past 20 minutes or so. Any action we take right now, before the beta ends, won't really do much. They plan to re-import this site to the finalized shell after the beta is over, so anything here will simply go over there again, reversing anything we did now.
As such, while we wait for the beta to end, I'll talk to a few other people around the Curse team to see what I can do.
I do need to point out a fallacy that was offered earlier: The mods on this site, from Moderator up to Admin, haven't done anything with your account info. Certainly not "shady greedy actions". You've been posting on a Curse site since the sale happened, and the creation of the accounts was an automated process done during the initial import into the new shell for the beta. None of which, I may add, was done by any moderator.
If you don't want a Curse account, fine. I'm talking with people on Curse to see what can be done. But one thing I've gotten directly from the techs is that logging in, much less posting, on MTGSalvation will require a CurseID. Which means Curse Account.
You've been posting on a Curse site since the sale happened
No, I've been posting on a cursed owned site with my own account. no 'curse id' or anything. Now I have to join a different site that i dont want to in order to be apart of a community that I should already have a rapport with. But hey, you mods can ban members, and distort the truth, so whatevs. my voice just falls on deaf ears.

Curse-owned and Curse-site are the same thing. It's still your account, it just has a different hierarchy. It's not a new site. It's still the same 'Salvation with a different 'shell'. Looks different and has a few different abilities.
Basically, it's Goku. But it's a different Seiyan version. Or perhaps one's Clark Kent and the other is Superman. Same dude, looks different.
If you don't want to be on the site post-beta, that's your prerogative. I'm still going to look for alternate solutions.
Speaking of, for people like Guardman who find themselves with multiple CurseIDs right now, the techs say they're going to find a way to get the merging done. It's never been needed before, from what I gather. They just tossed it on the 'to do' list, and have asked us to sit tight and play around with the beta on the current IDs until the merge solution has been designed.
I feel like we're having two completely different conversations, masterraids. Where is the threat in 'if you don't want your account/posts on the Curse network when the transfer occurs, we can delete it/them for you'? There is absolutely no malice in the intent, especially when it was the request of the allegedly persecuted users to happen in the first place.

Odd. I've had a Curse ID since I started using their addon client for WoW, and I've never received spam from them. As a matter of fact, I've never had any reason to suggest my information has been compromised or to get in arms over them handling my info.
Huh, also no one complained when we imported the registered users and post counts to this vBulletin board from the phpBB2 MTGS was originally on.
I'll agree that this isn't fearmongering. It's just the same people constantly going on about how terrible everything ever is on MTGS that always seem to be conveniently around to point it out and proceed to get off on acting victimized. It's about getting as old and tiresome as those end of the world tabloids that come out every week, after the proposed expiration point which we're all still here.

As I said, I'm pursuing other options. But right now, those are your options. Not options that the mods are limiting you to, but options we are being told you have.
masterraids, again, what is your alternative? The transfer is a done deal - it just hasn't happened yet. The people who are complaining requested they be removed because they don't want to be a part of the transfer. Is the mod team saying, 'We can abide by your request' a threat now?
@Xen: It is fearmongering, because anyone who skimmed the thread and saw masterraid's post out of context may have their panic button hit. It's not conducive at all to a community environment, and it creates needless animosity towards the mods who are offering an alternative to the people who don't want to be associated with Curse. By attempting to appease the users who are complaining, we're being accused of singling out the users in question for persecution, which could easily lead people who don't like the change to start an uproar against the staff. If masterraids believes it, who's to say others won't? The fearmongering here has potential to create uninformed panic and by responding to masterraids, I am attempting to defuse that situation by addressing his concerns and calling out the fallacies in his reasoning.

I think the issue here is that: just because Curse owns MTGSal, and just because Curse has access to all our account information, and just because Curse can transfer that information to there mothership site and create a new account and login for everyone, does not mean that they should. When Curse bought MTGSal, many were worried about this exact thing. Many worried that Curse would gobble the site up and make everyone go to their mothershp site and get a Curse login. And, the first major change that Curse has does is exactly that. And, it was done without warning to users and it feels seedy and violative.
As we all know, this site has trust issues. And, it's hard to trust a new, heartless organization (Curse) when it seems more than happy to act first and tell users later. Especially when it comes to private-feeling things (regardless if they're actually private or not).
In my opinion, there should have been obvious warnings (like pop-ups) for as long as this was planned stating that by keeping your MTGSal account, you agree to be ported into Curse's mothership and a Curse login will be created from your login info from MTGSal. Then, the each user could have made the conscious choice to be part of Curse's company-wide login system. Otherwise you have this.
Honestly, this is much ado about nothing. If having to be registered with the company that bought this internet forum months ago in order to access the site post-beta is the biggest of your worries, I truly envy your life.
For me, this ranks far below even the ingrown hair on my thigh that makes it awkward to walk in terms of life issues. The site is moving to improve our experience and the move involves hopping onto a Curse framework which requires Curse IDs. I really don't see the big deal.

And this is the other part of this problem. Staff (or ex staff) entirely blowing off this issue. This is not about how horrible this act was, because I agree, in the grand scheme of things, it's not horrible. However, it is the principle that is the issue. When Curse bought MTGSal, many were afraid this would happen. So, it stands to reason, then, that the community might dislike having their information used to create Curse accounts without any foreknowledge.
This leads to the third part that has been an ongoing problem, communication. I agree, the beta itself is ripe with communication. But, once again, this Curse account creation was backdoor and secretive. We have a distrusting community. Curse isn't winning any points from me.
I didn't even know MTGS had been bought by curse until I saw this beta, don't really like the new site layout or it being on curse's main site but judging from the the rest of the thread nothing is going to change that from happening.
On a side note, saying that if people don't like something they can have their accounts deleted comes across as threatening regardless of the actual intent.
Niv:
I can see by that stupid look on your face you're confused; "Why would I reveal this to you now?" Simply put, you have no chance to escape, I put my plan into motion 35 blocks ago.
I talked to the Curse techs again, checking on the account merger issue. They're going to start working on that on Monday.
Johnny, to address what you're saying, this wasn't a 'secretive' or 'backdoor' thing. It's part of their forum shell. It works a different way from vBulletin, given that it's a proprietary format, so it needs a specific account type to operate. Your account has been migrated. No more information has been collected (I say this as a person who likes to keep my personal life separate from online, so I had a double check myself). Nothing further has been 'made'.
It's not that we're blowing it off, it's that many of us don't see an issue in the first place. This was part of an automated import process done on a mass scale so that, when the time came and we transferred over, you'd have a minor amount of inconvenience to go through before you could post again.
I understand that you're annoyed and upset, which is why I'm trying to get some answers about how we can undo this or rectify this for people that don't want it. But you need to understand that I/we are not blowing you off. We simply don't see the act as horrible. Not horrible, not good, just a neutral thing. Like changing a password or updating an email.

Then allow me to apologize for coming across as threatening. That was not my intent in the first place. People were upset about the fact that accounts were created in their name, so I thought that removing those accounts was the best way to solve the problem for them. But knowing what I do about accounts and upgrades (too many MMOs and such to name), I predicted that doing so would remove access to this website for them and wanted to warn them of that ahead of time.
I do apologize for coming across as threatening. This was just me looking for the best way to help with a problem people were reporting.
