With Day [9] as the host and Felicia Day as a guest.
This is honestly just horrible. It makes me so mad to realize how their popularity is so much more important than their playskill. Felicia Day, at this point, is probably more likely to make the pro tour than the average PTQ grinder, despite barely knowing the basics of MTG. Is this really what we've come to? Celebrities like Day [9] get invitations to the pro tour, despite not knowing very much about MTG. Felicia Day gets to appear in an MTG commercial. This is absolutely disgraceful.

If that's your "casual," what on earth is required for "formal," a butler in livery shuffling the decks whilst a pianist plays Brahms in front of a tapestry?
Are you kidding? Felicia Day has been one of the strongest and most visible proponents of promoting geek activities. She is pretty damned funny, and represents the community very well. I have no idea who the other guy is, but Felicia Day is legit as a geek, and well known in the entertainment community. She is hilarious in the commercial. I doubt she will represent herself as a great player, as a matter of fact she is probably there for the newer player to identify with while also being a known quantity.
Day 9 is a very popular Starcraft and Starcraft 2 livestreamer. His shows consist primarily of tips tricks and strats to get better and more competitive at the game, though he used to (still does?) challenge his fans to win outside the conventional norm by building only 1 unit or other restrictions on play. He's quite good at teaching and he's quite entertaining, i watched his stream for months despite not playing starcraft 2.
No, LowFr3eq is right. Notice how he says "He even beat LSV in one game at the PT he was invited to" (emphasis mine).
Anyway, I see absolutely zero reason why this is bad for the game. Day 9 is an absolutely amazing storyteller and bringing him on to do MtG-related shows can only be good. I even thought inviting him to the PT was a good idea, but instead of giving him feature matches, they should have done interviews and the like. He is excellent at talking, not at playing, so it was relegated to "good idea, poorly executed" from my perspective.
As for Felicia Day, I don't know her, but I am willing to believe this:

Day[9] isn't even that bad at magic. He even beat LSV in one game at the PT he was invited to.
Are you serious? So Because he won a single game makes him good?
You must not have watched the rest of the feature match, because he didn't even know the rules of the game, and misplayed consistently because he didn't know the rules text on his own cards.....
It was a JOKE when he was on camera and a disgrace for MTG. He didn't hardly deserve a PT Invite and it's a slap in the face of grinders that he was even there.
Felicia Day, however, I like. She's a popular figure and a smart marketing tool.
Day [9] is just that, however, a tool.

Felicia day has literally been in everything even remotely geeky in the past five years. I think that nerds love her because of the personality she plays on every show (and probably has in real life). I honestly do not see how this could possibly harm MTG.
It was a JOKE when he was on camera and a disgrace for MTG.
Eh, he's not breaking any ground as being invited to something just for the size of the audience they can bring. If it exposes more people to MTG, why not. Especially if he could become what broadcast MTG needs more than anything else: a top notch announcer.

Pretty much. I don't know how anyone who watched his videos from GP San Jose last year can say with a straight face that it'd be bad for Magic to have him host a show like this.
I think this is a case of "no i don't want my favorite thing to become popular." It happens with bands, movies, tv shows, and games.
The reason why this is good for the game? Exposure. TableTop didn't ruin the boardgame hobby, and this won't ruin Magic. No one is telling you how to play, who to play against, and what shops to go to. If you don't like what the scene becomes in your local meta, then go to a different shop or start up your own regular group.
Besides, it's not like every person that writes for SCG, CFB, Gathering Magic, TCG, or any other website are nessessarily there because they are the best Magic players around.
She's attractive, yes, but I don't think that's the only reason why people like her. There are plenty of other women in the entertainment industry that are more attractive than her that could fill the same niche roles that she has on the shows she makes guest appearances on.
I personally think the reason why she's popular is because of the 'manic pixie dream girl'(/what ever it's called) personality that she portrays in everything.
Well there you go. It's less about the game and more about misaligned "nerd" celebrities trying to hype up what it is. Not as bad as an MTG booth at Warped Tour though (THIS is what their market research led them to?)
I'm not denying the exposure that Day 9 brought to MTG with his GP vids or his appearance in a feature match on the Pro Tour.
I am, however, comepletely irate that he got a Pro Tour invite based entirely on his celebrity status. This seriously should be an outrage across the entire competitive MTG scene. He didn't belong there, and if WOTC wanted exposure, they should have brought Day 9 on as an announcer or guest speaker for a feature match - not let him take part in the actual tournament when he had ZERO qualifications for doing so.
Let me put it this way - would the PGA let Justin Bieber play in the Player's Championship just to attract younger viewers? - NO.
Day 9 didn't even know the rules text on HIS OWN CARDS at the Pro Tour - how embarrassing, seriously.

You just found out about this, huh?
Honestly, how could it possible matter-he had no chance to win, and he didn't take a spot away from a PTQ winner.

I 100% agree with this, I myself have been doing a magic related series for going on 4 years now and wizards hasn't given me jack ****. No preview cards for new sets, nothing. It's not right the way wizards awards people special invites and other things based on how famous they are. They want an invite, win a PTQ like the rest of us or play enough of them and top 8 multiples without winning to show wizards that maybe you deserve a shot.

I have no problem with his invitation because he in introducing heaps of people to the game, which can't be bad.
Day9 finished at 3 points while LSV went on to take 11th place and Platinum despite starting 1-3.

Yeah, we're all tuning in for her "personality"

I knew before the Pro Tour about his invite (I'm an active stream viewer on Twitch but don't follow Day 9).
Watching him play in the feature match during the Pro Tour was excruciatingly painful.
Especially with the hoards of fan boys on Twitter who didn't understand why Day 9 was getting trashed for his horrible play.
Sure would be nice if someone posted a link to whatever there talking about... But it wont happen no matter how much I ask apparently.
At the Magic panel at SDCC, they announced that on the Geek and Sundry youtube channel, Day[9] will host a Magic show.
