I fear I won't have much time to play Magic these days.

I get to watch great leaders, terrible oppressors, and trend setters rise and fall.
Limited, Standard, Modern, everything is a different playing field I feel I can observe, but will not actually touch.
I look forward to the stories I will hear.
And more so to the ones I will watch unfold first hand.

guys ive totally never won a game before where my opponent had card advantage on me. to me this is a similar case to the werewolf hate. "but you can transform them back by casting 2 spells* except i just forced your hand.
you were holding that removal for when you cant afford to take much more damage from chandra's phoenix and i just made you use it on a mountain. this will fit nicely in gruul with stuff like rubblehulk,gruul charmground assaultgruul war chantflesh//blood

Also, odd thought, could this card be a part of a 5 card cycle, I.E. Awaken the Beast, Depths, Fallen, etc. I've always loved land critters and land subtheme decks. And with the return of dual lands and Slivers, would be a groovy time to see a influx of "lands matter" type cards. Will be a shame if its the only land enchant, its an area in magic I wish would be explored more...heh, get it? Explore? Lands? .....I dont have to impress you ppl, shuddup!

And all of a sudden weird stuff like realmwright and street sweeper start making sense....plus all the "enchant land" we got in RTR and GTC

Lets Review the best current standard decks and how awaken will work against them, keeping in mind when this guy goes so does the land its attached to:
Jund (tooons of removal, uh-oh)
Esper Control (azorious charm or verdict, uh-oh)
Naya Aggro/Mid (reckoner, selesnya charm, uh-oh)
RG aggro (reckoner is about all they have...)
Reanimator (ACIDIC SLIME! ALso pretty sure the angel will snake the mountain and the chant will fall off)
Bant hexproof spellslinger will be too busy laughing at you as his stalker flies overtop ftw to even read the card.
Aristocrats has a bajillion little guys to chump, or tragic slip, or just pro red cartel aristocrat.
NOT TO MENTION...its now a 2cmc doom blade away from a waste of two cards...
SO against a mirror match; RDW Or RG, hes quite good, everything else he's horrific. At least a thundermaw goes straight thru to the dome. This guy needed trample to be off the charts and its laughable to think Ghor-Clan will consistently work with it. Oh well, After Theros this card MIGHT be playable, but doubtful.

T1: Stomping Ground -> Arbor Elf;
T2: Rootbound Crag -> Burning Tree Emissary -> Infernal Plunge, sac BTE -> Awaken the Ancient on Stomping Ground -> Untap Stomping Ground with Arbor Elf -> Swing for 7 on Turn 2!
As great as 7 damage is that early in a game, it's going to be very difficult to get those exact 6 cards into your hand by turn 2 (by which point you will have drawn a maximum of 8).

I've been running this combo but with Thundermaws for the last couple months with quite a bit of success, it's pretty comical when it goes off. I find plunging Strangleroots into Hellriders a little more brutal though.
If it is I hope it goes in Black where it was supposed to be. Maybe Black will be a good color again?

This is exactly why I hope it's a cycle; variety. Can't blade a swamp transformed into a black 7/7 zombie mass with intimidate.

Ah yes, it would 9 if you're on the draw. After doing an 8-round prerelease yesterday, my mind is definitely stuck in "on the play" mode.
Or you could just float mana and sacrifice Arbor elf instead of playing Burning-Tree Emissary for 0 value.

I would gladly pay 7 life on T2 to have my opponent sacrifice a land and discard 4 cards.
