Desecration Demon was a card that greatly interested me, but I couldn't find a nice combo with it, it was just kind of brute force. Then came along Scavenging Ooze and it seemed these two were made for each other.
Add in blue or white for some creature protection or untap abilities and I think you have a pretty nice curve to 4. With Deathrite Shaman as your 1 drop, it looks pretty solid as a Junk or BUG deck to me. Thoughts?

No idea because my favorite decks keep getting banned or having the rules changed against them
It seems like a loosely synergistic interaction, at best. Making your Ooze bigger doesn't change the fact that Desecration Demon is practically never going to swing for actual damage. There are better ways to put opponents' creatures into yards for Ooze that don't put you at a disadvantage.
I guess the way I think about him is the fact that he is a massive beater that can beat up a Baneslayer for 4cmc. But as you said he is weak against tokens and aggro. However, in the setting of a control deck, it can make it very hard for your opponent. Either you take 6 to the face or you sac a creature.
I think part of the key is to find a way to keep him untapped. The part where I think he is weak is that fact that you opponent can tap him when attacking.
Twiddle come to mind as an option as does Hidden Strings. But still doesn't stand well by himself and needs a decent amount of support which will be hard.

Unless Baneslayer's controller is saccing to the demon's ability (highly unlikely), Baneslayer Angel's protection means Desecration Demon won't be beating up any Baneslayers anytime soon.

Sig credited to my basic GIMP skills.
There's something about a homemade avvy that makes you feel proud no matter how much it sucks.

Yup, and this interaction is how good against Lingering Souls?
When you get to 4-drops, they really need to start putting pressure. Desecration Demon just doesn't put pressure. You give your opponent the opportunity to not let it attack, and there are several decks in the format that will take advantage of it. Especially with Pod in the format, they can bin cards like Finks and Redcap and just get immediate value out of it, or even Reveillark and just totally punish you for it. When I can play Lightning Angel or Restoration Angel as a 4-drop, it's really hard to compete. Restoration can fog a kill spell or can gain value on something like Finks, so this card really doesn't compete well with it. It getting bigger is hardly a factor when the format has very good removal. It would be great in a block format where the removal is light, but not in Modern where there's way too much removal for Desecration Demon.
At least Ooze can technically prevent flashback...
Actually.... if your opponent is smart, it really can't. Your opponent gets a chance to cast it before you get a chance to exile it (assuming he has the mana and doesn't pass priority after it resolves).

The primary flashback card in the format, Lingering Souls, isn't one you always want to instantly flashback. It actually happened yesterday where my opponent was quick to flashback his Lingering Souls, so I cast Day of Judgement the following turn right away.
More importantly though, it answers Snapcaster, which is the primary card for flashback in the format. When they target the spell, you can respond to it and remove the spell, so you basically get to blank that ability forever.
months ago when i first saw desecration demon, i thought it looked pretty decent. it was at the very least interesting and at most a playable big dork with a marginal downside that could be managed.
however, i then immediately played a draft against a dude who'd ripped one from a pack.
a legit limited bomb, you might think!
nope!
i found it easy to play around and ignore, which is a bad sign for constructed playability as a bomb. i was so disappointed! but then that's the way the game works.
scavenging ooze however is pretty great no matter where you play it.
it's a tough old world.
