Trying to make my first competitive deck and I would love your help!

The only reason buddy lands are in here is that they're the only cards that when moved out post rotation won't affect the deck as heavily with the incursion of guildgates and some basic lands.

Maybe auramancer in your side if people keep destroying them

You're going to get wrecked by aggro. You don't need to ramp but you do need to do something to help your board develop.

Use Lotleth Troll and Gladecover Scout instead of Obzedat and Lifebane Zombie. You'll also find that Ethereal Armor isn't all that strong when you're only running 12 enchantments. Consider having another good aura of some sort. Predator's Gambit is probably the best but if you're trying to avoid cards that rotate you might want to consider Dark Favor and Deviant Glee.

I feel that Junk has some interesting possibilities but if you check the link in my signature you'll see the colors that I prefer. Still - I've looked into junk quite a bit and I do think that Lotleth Troll in particular has interesting possibilities.

I second Gladecover Scout and Dark Favor, and also Deviant Glee (because it's basically Unholy Strength in standard with the red ability) if you want lower CMC enchantments. I do like the 4 Gift of Orzhova and Unflinching Courage for lifelink, but they push your curve up too much, as does Obzedat. I'd say Rancor is a good enough enchantment for inclusion, it's only uncommon, and it's only July so it's legal for a few months. Here's what I was thinking:

Thanks guys! I was looking back on this deck and the amount of 3 drops is way too high especially with no 1 or 2 drop creatures. Gladcover scout is the perfect 1 drop.

Thing is, I really like lifebane zombie because it has intimidate and when I cast it, even if my opponent does not have a green or white deck, I still get access to see into their hand which I think is very useful. I would almost say that I would rather have lifebane zombie in over witchstalker because I could still have gladecover scout for hexproof creature.

But yeah, aggro would completely wreck me. I think fencing ace is wonderful two drop.

Dutiful Thrull could be good here alongside Gladecover scout and Lotleth Troll. Run Wreath of geists and Mulch. That is as far as I have gotten with this deck. It works but not as well as Bant does. *sigh*

This is the deck I posted in the other junk aura thread. I modified it a little bit after testing it in solitaire and online with cockatrice. I plan on building it out and taking it to FNM, and then taking it to the PTQ this saturday.


The removal makes this deck fairly interactive (which is "verboten" for hexproof decks, but whatever, it works), and it has a lot of stabilization options against aggro decks. It's strong against most big archetypes except maybe hardcore control with 4 Celestial Flare, Terminus and Supreme Verdict - the Orzhov Charm mainboard tech is good, but not THAT good, since it slows us down too much to deal with that.

Have you considered Dark Favor? Dark Favor + Fiendslayer Paladin is simply awesome. It kills mostly anything, gets you 5 life per attack, and as an absolute pain to remove. I am working on a rock junk deck that sports some lifelink and the favor and paladin is one of my favorite combinations.

This would be awesome, except you can't play the Dark Favor on the Fiendslayer Paladin because the Paladin cannot be the target of black or red spells.

Yup, this. The one thing I wish they had added was "or abilities" behind spells. As it is, Olivia Voldaren can still slave him.

I would recomend restoration angel.... I had some flicker their lifebane zombie over and over when i was playing naya slivers.... Got old really quick

Have you considered going red? Madcap skills is really good. +3 and pesudo evasion. After rotation enchant based decks will have to branch out into red. Also volcanic strength is beyond amazing in half your matchups as mountains are commonplace in the meta. And you should probably stick to only things with protection.
Gladecover, Witchstalker, Fiendslayer paladin and if you stay junk use Lotleth troll and keep regen mana open.

If you use Ethereal Armor then Abundant Growth should be an auto-include.
