Yeap, I figured you for someone that's never been hunting.
I actually grew up archery deer hunting and pheasant hunting.
Bear are not indestructible. Having a shotgun gives me a hell of a lot better chance than the guy with the halberd.
EDIT: Maybe the confusion is coming from my view of a shotgun... in MN deer hunting with a rifle is illegal. Because of this most "shotguns" are basically the same thing as rifles with a different looking bullet.
Regular slugs used for deer hunting will work just fine when blasted into the bear's head.
Then you better be a damned good shot and have perfect range and the proper slug, cause a bear's head is going to be a hard target when it's charging you and you may not even penetrate its skull if you hit it with an unrifled slug and from too far away.
In any case, anyone who thinks that they can take on a bear unless they have a powerful gun and training with said gun is being delusional.
Even the strongest individual alive in RL would be, at best, a 2/1 if translated onto a card. You'd just trade with the bear, not beat it.
Edit- and now I feel silly for posting way too long after the guy posts about using the proper rifled shotgun.
I'm a 5/4 Doublestriker- I have a special weapons permit and various other permits and keep a loaded Grenade Launcher in my vehicle at all times, along with a few other nasty weapons that are illegal in the general population. I also have and often wear full Riot Gear, and have been attacked with a 9mm and machette at the same time and suffered no injury whatsoever.
In addition, I have trained in several martial arts for the past 20 years, with a focus on practical and deadly comabt techniques. I carry on my person at all times several balded weapons, a powerful taser, and a Desert Eagle. I participate yearly in a survival challenge in which I am dropped off in the wilderness with 1 days rations, a knife, and no other supplies, and have to find my way home. This is typically several weeks hiking from civilization.
I have personally killed several bears in the course of this challenge, with the use of snares and other traps.
The bear has absolutely no chance.
The above if of course complete bull****. I am a 1/1 banker and semi-professional singer/actor. I am quite adept with a bow and a sword, but unless I get lucky with a eye-shot (which is possible but unlikely), I'm done.
I was just referring to getting a spin on the projectile to increase accurate range, having high powered optics, etc...
I think originally people were thinking of a plain old pump action shot gun with just the iron sights and an incredibly inaccurate slug. That was the view I wanted to dispel.
While I can not I know some humans COULD (very rare and few between) as natives used to make hunting bear a rite of passage, in Aferica they used to hunt lions for a similar reason (mind you they didn't have to "win" only cut off the tail and live to tell about it back at the tribe) so could I do it with no weapon training, not a chance, Could SOME humans yes.
I've got firearms training with most rifles, shotguns, and revolvers. That said, I don't have access to them anymore since I've moved out of my house. If I had access to them I'd say I might be a 2/1 maybe with first strike.
Otherwise I'm a 1/1 dead guy.

If Chuck Norris is a X/Y where X is lower than 2 and Y is higher than 2, then I am most likely unable to defeat said grizzly bear unarmed. Eager Cadet could probably kill me pretty quickly, actually, considering that he has a sword, though I'd have no trouble defeating a Little Girl. I think that means I am a creature with 1/2 power and 1 toughness.
With chance to prepare for the fight and access to the proper tools, yes, I could defeat a Grizzly with my life on the line. Things like first strike need to be looked at here, though. To claim you have three toughness is to claim you could survive being struck by lightning once every day.
Also, there's the question of whether I'd have the heart to kill a grizzly. For something so titanic, dammit, they're still really cute. I'm more likely to call animal control than suit up for battle.
First off, the link to Chuck Norris was epic. Your logic is sound.
Second of all, you're not (necessarily) unarmed. If you know how to use any weapons or routinely carry some, you will have them for this battle. You sure you can't take on an Eager Cadet? He's not even trained.
Third, having four toughness means you can get hit by lightning and live. Three toughness means you'll get over a Shock.
Fourth, I have no doubt that with time and strategy, most of us would devise a plot or trap to beat a Grizzly. I appreciate that you decide to call for animal control though... however, you wouldn't be able to do that here. It's sadly kill or be killed in this case.
Haha what. People who think they can take a bear in physical combat outside of packing guns are just delusional.
Indeed, going by the poll so far, more people believe they can take on the bear and live to tell about it rather than take the bear down with them in glorious combat, despite insistence by others that even with guns this should be a challenge.

You're allowed to have any weapons you either 1) carry with you routinely for personal reasons or 2) are trained to use. Since you are trained to use firearms, you will be allowed to have them for this battle, even if you don't have them on you at the moment.

Oh, I've heard of em. But a shotgun with a rifled barrel is NOT the same as an actual rifle.
.
The only difference between a rifle and a shotgun is that a rifle is, as the name suggests, rifled, while a shotgun is not rifled.
If you rifle a shotgun, then it is now a rifle with a very large bullet. Because the round is large but you do not have a corresponding increase in propellant, the round cannot go nearly as far as a rifle round. Thus, it is more preferable for hunting because a missed shot won't go a quarter of a mile and possibly hit someone.
running is my sports... so if a bear would grab me? ach! ruuun!

I don't disagree with most of what you're saying, but your post also validates what I was saying. A rifled shotgun certainly acts more similarly to a rifle than a non-rifled shotgun, but as you say: the rifled shotgun slug/sabot won't travel as far. Crucially, that also means the round has less penetrating power. In other words, there is another, very big difference between rifles and shotguns: the ammunition used.

The large difference in mass means the shotgun slug doesnt need to be going nearly as fast as the rifle bullet to have just as much energy to transfer into the target.

The large difference in mass doesn't grant the sabot round more penetrating power. In fact, a 12 gauge sabot compared to a 7mm Magnum round isn't very different in terms of mass anyway.
Among other things, one of the reasons most home defense gurus advocate shotguns over rifles is that rifle rounds, moreso than even shotgun sabots have a tendency to overpenetrate, through walls, other houses, etc.
In a home defense scenario, penetration is obviously bad. But, in our theoretical need to down a dominarian grizzly, penetration is very, very good.

I'm pretty sure that aside from being from Dominaria and apparently being able to punch down a tree, this bear is otherwise no different than any other Grizzly from our plane. Thus, you might be able to outrun it downhill after all.
