So I bought one the other day and love it. the display is so bright and clear. wish wizards would make a mtgo for android tablets. anyone else have a tablet?
Got one a couple days ago. I completely lucked out, because when I went to redeem my receipt and get it, the cashier accidently gave me the Verizon version instead. I just smiled and walked out with my $200 profit. Good day, good day...
I couldn't be happier with the thing. It pretty much never leaves my side. Thats mostly because I'm addicted to Food Ninja though :p.
I'm probably going to sell it soon, though. Asus is coming out with a tablet thats the exact same thing, except for $400.
The Xoom is a seriously overpriced tablet. The iPad 2 is a much better value; unfortunately, supply is scarce. Asus is coming out with a tablet for $400 soon, though.
I went in looking at the Tab. They didn't have one so gave me $100 off. IPAD is 600-800. and it runs the retard OS. I prefer android cause of the flexibility u have.

Actually, the baseline wifi iPad is only $500.
I'm no Apple fanatic by any means, but Apple has Samsung and Motorola beat with pricing by a bit. RIM's Playbook will be $500 as well but the display is smaller than that of the iPad.

Which may be a plus for a lot of people.
It depends on what you need (want?) the tablet for. If it's a stay-at-home type thing for just a portable media device for watching movies, playing some games, reading ebooks, etc. that you're only going to use on the couch or bed or whatever, lounging around the house, then I would go with the iPad. If you want something a lot more portable, that you can use on a daily commute, stick in a pocket and generally leave the house with, then the PlayBook is hard to beat. Additionally if you already have a BlackBerry with a nice data plan, you're essentially getting a 3G tablet for the price of a WiFi one (given that you can tether the PlayBook to your phone).
I'm pretty sure that although they converge somewhat, there actually two different tablet markets, one for 7inches and one for 10inches. If the PlayBook is successful (and it probably will be), expect a 7inch iPad coming along shorty.
I got an iPad 1 a week and a half ago for $325. Besides the slowness with Garageband [I can live with it ...], it's AMAZING. But I bought it mainly for music apps.
From my vantage point, there isn't too much reason to get the iPad 2.
I wish I could get a Playbook instead, though. 7 inches is so much more convenient, and is better if you're using a tablet for productivity. You don't need to drag a bag around with you and it's a lot nicer than a phone. [Had a Nook Color, but I sold it, it was choppy/slower than my LG Optimus V.]
Also, @ pricing, the Xoom is competitive at its specs [32GB]. But eh.

Well it's twice as fast as the original iPad, costs the same amount as the original iPad did before iPad 2's launch, and is pretty much the only new condition iPad widely available on the market.
There's no real reason why not to get the iPad 2 if you haven't gotten a tablet already. It's not as if there are that many new original iPad's left floating around.
IPAD2 is only if you want a locked down iOS. Like I pointed out before, XOOM/Android and few other nice tablets all have either Droid or Windows which you can do alot with, unlike Apple's iOS. I've talked to alot of IPAD users after they've seen what the XOOM can do, they almost always instantly wished they would have went with the XOOM. I love mine and use it all the time to watch movies on my server, play fulltilt poker, control my laptop (to play mtgo), watch live nba games, etc. Never going back to an apple product again.
I went cheap and got a 7" Sylvania pad for about $150 (although I had $150 in gift cards, so I didn't even pay that). There's no contract or anything like that because it isn't a phone; it just uses WiFi.
+ Screen quality is really good and bright. I've copied the first season of Futurama from DVD to it and the episodes look clean and sharp.
+ Sound is respectably loud from the back speaker, although that is mono. I haven't tried the headphone port.
+ It was very easy to connect to the Internet.
+ It was easy to root the device.
+ Plays Angry Birds just fine.
+ Can hook up a mouse and keyboard via USB, but I haven't tried this feature.
+ Works very well for purposes of App development and testing (I'm working on a Magic App).
+ Super cheap price tag - 50% to 75% less than more expensive tablets.
- Build quality is questionable. I had to take the first one back because it stopped working after one use. It got really hot, even when it was turned off. The second one turned off by itself once, but that may have been due to low battery power. I don't really put much strain on the device to test its boundaries.
- Touch screen is single touch, but works well enough.
- Requires an SD card to download apps, which I wasn't aware of at first.
- Couldn't remove an annoying browser app without rooting the device first.
Overall, I'm very happy with it, but less technical users or those who are looking for more rugged equipment may need to look elsewhere.
