Just gonna say from experience, it doesn't matter what you call it, there is bound to be percentage of the populace that's not going to get what you mean. I'm completely, deadly serious here, you could name it Nerd Games For Nerds with Magic the Gathering and other Nerd Stuff Hey All You Nerds Come in For Nerd Games and you'll still have people coming in asking you if you sell microwaves or Venetian blinds or whatever.
Edit cuz I thought of it too late: I had a friend who worked for a Dollar Store with a big sign in the window that said "Everything's a dollar!" According to her, she got asked about 50 times a day "how much is this?"
2. What are you selling specifically? What kind of games? Are there comics? Are there arcade games? Warhammer or other miniatures? What about tournaments?
You already said you're selling Yugioh and such, so cards are definitely in. What else?
3. What's your gimmick?
4. What specific customer base do you wish to attract?
5. Any noteworthy or interesting trivia about the area you're opening in?
House of Cards is a fantastic name. Good work.
1. It is mostly going to be card games like magic and yugioh being the main draw. Most likely are the only games that we will support singles. We also will sell other card games but not give as much room as magic and yugioh. We also will have clix. No Warhammer since there is a game's workshop in the area of where we have been looking to open up shop. We can’t compete with them.
2. Most of this question I answered above on number 1 but yes we will be running tournaments. At the moment we are aiming for about 2 each a week for magic and yugioh. Once the store is open and we see other games selling or the magic and yugioh we will add more tournaments. We also will have T.V.'s in the store to run star city events on and also football during football season. One of the big things I notice is the lack of players on Sundays during football season. I hope T.V.'s with the games on will draw them in.
3. We plan on having a bigger playing area for the gamers. Every place I have played had limited area in turn limited the amount of people that could play. We are looking to hold big tournaments that will draw people to the store. We also plan on holding Halo, MW, and Madden tournaments down the line after we open. No one in the area does this. I think it will bring more people to the store that might buy try other games.
4. Table top gamers mostly and try to get the parents to play with their kids. Show some interest in what they are doing instead of using the store as a day care.
5. Store is being opened in or around Baltimore. So ton's of history from the star spangle banner being written in the bay to the battles fought when the British invaded.

You won't be able to use actual card names. Power 9 is fine though.
How about calling it "Local Gaming Store" or LGS for short?
That's actually really clever. I think I read a study once on archetypical-named stores like "The Shop" or "Book Distribution Center"; iirc the names had a higher chance of people remembering that they existed but the names made people hesitant to enter because, well, serious name is serious. Something like this with a high memory resonance amongst the demographic might circumvent the negatives while accentuating the positives in such a naming scheme.
what about Gamer's Games?
stupid enough to be remembered as a funny name, and should attract fun people in.
Sound's bad. Player's Games would be better imo, but I don't even like that.
There was a local video game cafe (if that's what they are called, idk I don't play vidya gaems) called Noobs. It works because everyone who knows that that word is instantly would associate it with a game store. Like GameStop. It's you're one stop shop for games.
Ideas (ranked too):
1. Cardplosion
2. D6 Dealers
3. Dungeons and Dice
4. The Stacked Deck
5. FNM Games
6. Santa's Games and More
7. Cardsco
8. Tradin' Playin' & Slay'n
9.
I have to say I really like number 8.
Once I get the store open if I use anyones name suggestions ill be sure to send you some goodies for the help.
Next big step comes next week when I meet with the lawyers again to get a contract signed between me and my partner. Then from there we apply for Trade mark then llc.
When you get down to your short list, you might want to go someplace where they have Yu-gi-oh moms (or a message board for Yu-gi-oh parents) and ask them what store name would most appeal to them to take their kid to.
I think the Magic players in general, will find you, and don't really care what the name is, but a HUGE cash source is Yu-gi-oh, and for that, you need the parents to be interested in taking their kids there.
At my friend's store, Magic and teen/college level gaming was what he loved, but Yu-gi-oh parents really helped to pay the bills.

Good advice. But I dont want a name coming off to childish.
if you have a short nime, or there is an abreviation,
something like "mike´s game and cardstore".
The problem with this is I have a partner. So It would be both of our names and it will be a very long store name.
Parents, grandparents, and basically everybody not into fantasy, won´t understand that it´s a Game store.
Also, tu use "dump" in a name, no way man, that word has too many negative things attached to it.
/jokes
I don't really recommend calling your store a dump.
Our (lgs) store has epic in the name, and that's a big turn off for me. I'd avoid putting it anywhere in the store. I'd also recommend a general name so that non magic players clearly recognize it as a gaming supply store. If its a game store, magic players will naturally check it out I think, especially with the window clings and posters and things that wizards gives out, so you want to make sure other gamers can recognize it for what it is.
I'm actually not a big fan of 'Tradin' Playin' & Slay'n' or 'Nerdvanna'. I know you're not really marketing toward parents, but I don't see any of them trying out a store named either of those, even if they knew what was inside. Nerdvanna, I don't know how serious a suggestion that is, but I would rather play at a different store. Heh. Then again, I dislike our lgs's name, so...
How about Intergalactic Games, and then you dress up as aliens?
The House of Cards sounds like an A+ choice to me. Good luck, TapSnap. I own a hobby shop in Springfield, VA, so I may indeed hear about your store every now and then
I have a few tips for you: there are thousands of players who are familiar with going to the Baltimore Convention Center for big MtG events. If you find a location near there, you may increase your business during such events, and I would wholeheartedly recommend looking into renting a spot in the convention center to run your own large-scale tournaments there at some point. YuGiOh is hit-or-miss here in Virginia, but I often hear that it is much more popular in Maryland, so you may want to make sure you have enough of the YuGiOh product line available and that you get in contact with Konami to run official YuGiOh tournaments.
Again, good luck! Feel free to PM me with questions.

Yes we are looking at locations about 10 mins from the convention center. Right out side of the city lines.
I am meeting with people over the weekend to hopefully get us on track to what we need next and also with lawyer to get a contract together between my partner and I. So after this weekend I am hoping that things start coming together more smoothly then they have been and we can get the store open within the next 6 months or so.
Once we get the store up and going ill be sure to post some pictures and let everyone know how it’s going. Still a long way off it seems. I am sure you were in the same boat starting out and know what I mean.
How about calling it "Local Gaming Store" or LGS for short?
This is a good idea, simple, to the point and easy to remember. Where I live the best comic book shop is called simply "The Comic Book Shop". It's been in business for over 20 years and many competitors have come and gone in that time. Simple names like this will not only attract your core demographic of consumers but also people that are curious about gaming or are shopping for a loved one who is a gamer.
I don't like it. Did you run it by some parents by any chance? I think some might like it, it sounds like kids are running the store. Plus the use of Internet slang and "God" might turn off a few people.
Plus in terms of "cool factor" to those it actually matters to, it's NOT.
"OMG" sounds at least 5 years behind the times.
And temember the name of a store is not going to MAKE people come to your store, but it can certainly make some people NOT want to come. You really can never afford to give away business.
Just to capitulate with everyone else, you really, really want to avoid any religious connotation in your store name, even something as hidden as "OMG". Just trust me on this, you don't want to give your local churches reason to go off on a crusade; that demographic has the ability to make or break you, easily, and again, while I'd prefer to not get into it too much I cannot stress this enough. Gaming and religion seem to operate best at "ignore each other" levels, and this might be seen by a few zealots as an preemptive attack.
