Here it is folks, the final poll of the first ever Villain Vs. Tournament. Here is where you decide who deserves the title of the most vile, dastardly, despicable, evil super villain of all time: Dr. Doom or Magneto. Before we dive into this week’s scenario, let’s take a moment to look at how those two bested the rest of the worst.
Round 13: Darth Vader v Magneto
Round 14:Deathstroke v Dr. Doom
Now that we know how they got here, let’s see how they could come to blows. Just like with the superhero tournament, we here at the Vs. institute has put together a special, nontraditional final set-up. The intent here is to test which of these characters really embodies the idea of the super villain best.
Maybe the world has been drawn into another alternate reality by some tragic and unpredictable circumstance. Perhaps it was all a dream, more aptly a nightmare, of the earth’s designated Watcher. Or maybe the world’s heroes luck just ran out at the worst possible moment.
Whatever caused it, the earth was left with the fact that the skrulls had conquered their planet. Sure, it wasn’t the first time. The populace held their breaths, but they still went to work (those whose offices weren’t destroyed in the attack at least) and went about their normal routines. They had faith in their heroes; they would stand up to the invaders just like they had countless other times. This time was different though.
The collective mouths of the world fell open when the first images of the hero executions came in. The skrulls had perhaps learned from past mistakes. They targeted the heroes specifically and killed them outright. Hundreds of shredded, bloody costumes littered the streets of the world like tri-colored tumble weeds. All hope was lost.
Or so they thought.
The great salvation the world was looking for came from the most unlikely of sources. Two men had the foresight to see what was coming. Even before the skrulls launched their invasion, Dr. Doom and Magneto had their eye on them. Both had a similar idea of how to turn the upcoming devastation to their advantage.
Almost simultaneously they approached the skrulls and brokered a deal. They would aide them in conquering the world in exchange to be left alone. Magneto and his followers in Genosia, Dr. Doom and his people in Latveria. The skrulls saw the benefit and agreed to the terms.
Not surprisingly, all three parties had ulterior motives. The skrulls planned to leave Latveria and Genosia alone only as long as they needed their help. Doom and Magneto used the skrulls to help them eliminate those that had stood against them in the past. Once the path was clear, each of them had plans to turn against their temporary allies.
After four years of skrull domination Dr. Doom and Magneto, humanity’s saviors, expunged the invaders. Perhaps blinded by their returned freedom, the people of the world looked past the men’s old crimes and willingly traded one dictator for two. The earth was carved into two nations. Each hemisphere was governed by one master.
The people of the world didn’t mind though, in fact they enjoyed it. They could finally begin to rebuild their lives. Sure, the heroes were gone, but they had new protectors. They might not have as much freedoms as they had before, but anything was more than what the skrulls had given them. And the two emperors stood on opposite sides of the globe and maintained a sweeping peace with each other and with the nation states under their control.
Of course, those men had a strange idea of alliances.
To sum up:
--All superheroes on earth (and probably most of the villains too) have been killed
--The world has been devastated by an alien invasion about 4 years ago
--Dr. Doom and Magneto are loved the entire world over, because of this, directly attacking each other would be a bad idea
--Dr. Doom rules over Asia, Eastern Europe, the eastern third or so of Africa (including South Africa), and Australia
--Magneto rules over North America, South America, western and central Africa, and much of Europe
--They have no time limit and nearly infinite resources
Given these terms, who would take over the world and/or prove to be the "best" villain? Why? Discuss below.
--
They'll probably both try to play the political game of diplomacy-with-a-gun-in-hand. And I guess Doom is better at that. But it can only go so far - if Magneto ever starts to feel truly threatened by Doom, he can just crush him and/or everything he has. Yes, this would shock humanity, but he sure could find an excuse or something else to put the blame on. Humanity is gullible like that.
I believe that both of them are very intelligent and well aware of each others capabilities. They both know that an indirect conflict would end up in catastrophe for the whole planet, if not total destruction of it. And they both know that a direct conflict would be won by Magneto.
Ok...so they aren't going to have a fight. However, this doesn't mean that Magneto's powers are irrelevent. I believe he would hold the world hostage by threatening to use his powers to remove the earth from its axis.
On the other hand, Doom could counter threaten to use a device of his to ignite the core of the earth.
I don't think threats will work on either men, as both are capable of calling the bluff or producing their own threat.
This is what each man has going for and against him:
Magneto: Cleary the most powerful of the two. He is charasmatic, and people fall for his words and follow him. He would make an excellent politician and statesman. Kind of reminds me of Obama. A wizard with words.
However don't really know how keen he would be at heart to defend humanity, as they have been his life long bane.
Doom: Clearly the smarter of the two. Makes a perfect communist leader. He would never be elected over Magneto if his people had a choice. But the people of asia and africa are more or less accustomed to following these types of leaders anyways. It is likely his power will go unchecked. I would say that his side of the world could almost be refered to as a regime. And as we all know, regimes are susceptable to revolutions and coups.
Verdict: If they aren't going to directly battle, this is how it would go down. Doom launches an attack against the western hemisphere. The west is overwhelmed by the military powers and sheer numbers of asian soldiars. They were also caught off guard as they were too busy trying to build their democratic utopia. The entire world is now ruled by a single dictator, and that man is Doom. However, Magneto has dissapeared. He is hovering above the Earth in a magnetic force field filled with oxygen. He looks down upon the earth with contempt. He sees nothing but a lost cause. His dream is dead, what remains of the mutant nation is in tatters and those that still live are nothing more than lab rats of doom's scientists as they attempt to unlock the powers of their dna. With a deep sigh of regret, Magnus realizes he has lost and that corrupt humans now rule the entire world. He turns his back on the earth and heads for his ship. He doesn't know where he'll go, or who will even welcome him...a mass murderer, guilty of the same genocide that plagued both his people as a Pole and a mutant. As his ship leaves the galaxy...the earth shifts from its orbit and begins its slow voyage into the sun.
So, in the poll I'm going to vote for Dr.Doom becuase it only asks "who will take over the world". Doom is the obvious choice for this as this has always been his ambition. Magneto only cares for his people and has never ahd any such desire. But as stated in my little fan-fic ending....Doom may win the war, but Magneto will be the last man standing.
I voted for Magneto because I think he would win in a fight. I'm not really interested in the political aspect since I thought this was supposed to be about who would win in a fight, not a political battle.

Basicly Eric has what he wants... a nations of purely only mutants where he can elinimate all nonmutants on his little half planet... Also I need to know what about the "anti heros" example heros on xmen who weren't really heros most of the time but sometiems got to be heros As this can make a MAJOR influceance on weather or not Eric wins.... as there were some scary powerful VILLANS that were more than willing to work with Eric to achive a mutal end.
One other factor Doom has a nation of HUMANS Eric has Genosha (and north amaerica which is where a large number of other mutants resided) which has survived.. which means LOTS of ( powerful) mutants who now love him. Eric has the MUCH better standing army and Military resources like all the secret US Military bases/Reserch centers.... The Sental creation center... A Large arsenal of Nuclear weapons ect ect ect
I voted for Magneto because I think he would win in a fight. I'm not really interested in the political aspect since I thought this was supposed to be about who would win in a fight, not a political battle.
Yes, but we want to know if they would fight.
We haven't put them in a death match. There is a question of who *would* actually do what it takes to beat the other, if either one would do that.
For instance, it could be said that earlier in the bracket, Magneto beat Sinestro by making Sinestro retreat. The setup had Sinestro as someone who was there merely to gain information. Sinestro, being quite in love with his life, would have no reason to fight to his own death.
In this situation, there is definitely an issue with Magneto. I think Magneto is going to have problems taking the initiative, over Doom. Because Magneto wants to actually have a world. He has a particular view in mind about what he wants. And while Magneto contradictorily founds his system on oppression and elitism, he does want to shepherd "his people". This means, to some extent, keeping them protected. Because Doom is less specific, he has more freedom.
BUT at the same time, I think I'd have to say Magneto, in fact, has more to work with. Magneto has more than once persuaded powers (powered Humans) to fight for him (he doesn't even have to use the word "with" ). This open setup would seem to allow for that.

Magneto would probably not take an initiative but, as soon as Doom make his move, Magneto can just kill him. As easily as stepping on a fly.
And then he could justify it for his people, since Doom was planning to attack and he was protecting them.

I rolled 5 D6's and got 3 fours. They must have changed the odds of getting a 4!
I believe they already had this fight before in the comics...I am pretty sure Magneto wiped the floor with him. So my vote goes to Magneto. He definitely has the tools and power to destroy Doom as proven before.
Dr. Doom has nearly unlimited resources.
That's all you need to read. He builds a time machine in the comics, what's to stop him this time? He has better powers overall, is smarter i believe, and would have no problem taking his time in a battle of attrition.
Magneto has nearly unlimited resources.
Meh, so?
Magneto wins. I can't fathom a universe where Doom wins. Magneto has a EM field fry Doom's brain. I don't know, I'm not a huge fan of Magneto, but from what I understand hes capable of some pretty insane feats.
However, I don't see whats in it for Magneto. He wants the homo-superior to take over earth. If there aren't any mutants left, then I don't think Earth has much to offer Magneto. He would probably just leave, rather than fight Doom.
If there are Mutants however, then Mag's wins before it even starts. I'm surprised Doom was able to weather this Skrull Invasion, but Wolverine, Mystique, Scarlet Witch, etc. The list goes on and on.
Magneto has a bigger stick than Doom. If he has the motivation to use it he wins.
@Warped Bottle: If Magneto wants to fight, he wins. Doom wouldn't have unlimited time to build his toy. Magneto would just kill him as soon as he felt motivated. If Magneto didn't want to fight, then he would just leave. So yeah, if Magneto didn't feel like killing Doom, then Doom could kill Magneto. Thats true for all of these fights, Jubilee could beat Superman if Superman just didn't care.
Wow, we finally haz something epic. Question: Why doesn't Doom just shut Magneto's powers off? Prime Sentinels could do, the High Evolutionary once turned off every mutant's power on the planet. Doom's done some pretty epic things in his life. Magneto is using his godliness to remain in control, if Doom simply shut him off...it would shut him up. Then Doom could just keep using propaganda to sway the followers who lost faith in Magneto?
We haven't put them in a death match. There is a question of who *would* actually do what it takes to beat the other, if either one would do that.
See, I'm already assuming they are fighting, or are on the verge of throwing down this very moment. I mean, there is no way in hell that Vader and Shredder would fight each other, but they were supposed to have a death match, and I voted on that as if it were a death match. There probably isn't a good chance that these villains would fight each other, but that, to me, is what this tournament is all about. If these guys ever were to fight, who would win. And that is what I voted on. I don't care who hypothetically controls what part of the world, or who is or isn't alive. I'm talking a one on one may the best man win sort of thing.
Hmm... that is true.
Magneto's power is wholly monolithic.
It is certainly within either villain's power to somehow obtain and use an "off-switch" for any powers the other would be using, to allow that villain to attack or position when the other is weak.
But Doom has an array of abilities. Magic, doombots....being Doom.... I don't know too many specifics, but I know there are lots of them.
Could Magneto - or any man god - ever make a No-stick for Doom?
But for our other villain, if Magneto can't do his metal-movey thing, he's as frail as an old man. (oh wai-)
Heck, there's that shamed encounter with Xavier where he didn't *think* he could use his power - y'know, with the wooden guns? - and he totally folded. Okay, it's apocryphal, but my point is made.
Nice thinking Irmis.
Each controls an empire. So Magneto's personal abilities aren't much in general. But if Doom can put him in a critical situation when he hits his off-switch, it could be TPK.

I went with Dr. Doom seeing what he has done in his comic past as well a big fan boy of his. Magneto is as bad as Doom, but he to me is not a real villian more of the shade of grey guy of the Marvel Universe. So seeing this a villian tournament Doom wins this end of story.
Magneto would wipe Dr. Doom in a head-on fight so badly it's not even funny. However, since the set-up basically has both villains scheming against the other, Doom will clearly win.
No one has emphasized this enough. Dr. Doom is plainly and absolutely diabolical. He is an incredibly smart schemer and inventor. He is totally self-serving and will not care who he sacrifices in pursuit of his goals.
Magneto is behind him in all those aspects. He isn't quite the genius that Doom is and he's an idealist at heart. Doom can stave him off for long enough to do whatever he needs to kill him without having to face him (a time machine was suggested and it would do the job... I guess poisoning him isn't supervillain-ish enough). That said, Magneto has a chance if Dr. Doom screws up... So I could see either one winning but I think Doom has the upper hand in this specific scenario.
Magneto would wipe Dr. Doom in a head-on fight so badly it's not even funny.
Dr. Doom has fought people on Magneto's power level and has won. Since they know of each other Dr. Doom has time to plan ahead...which is when he is most likely to win.
Nah, it's always been about who was the better villain.
--
Whoa...Well that was never really well defined anyhow. How is "best villain" rated if not in a straight battle?
Darth Vader for example may not be the strongest, but seeing how he exterminated his universe's "Justice League" and killed children in cold blood, is a much greater villain than Doom and Magneto could ever be, but he got eliminated because Magneto can crush his life-support.
In a fight Magneto would have won, but since now it's all about villainy, Doom has more ressources and is a better tactician

It is always easy to be tolerant and understanding...Until someone presents an opinion completely opposite to your own.
Let me officially say then, that Magneto is MTGS's chosen champion of villiany!
Thanks to everyone that followed along from the beginning.
Speaking of that, if you didn't like the way things went, if you really liked the way things went, if you like to write and/or organize, like to add to the MTGS community, then please volunteer for the VS. team! PM me and I'll send you more of the details. I don't want to hog all the fun :).
The VS. institute is taking a week off. Join us next week to tie up some lose ends.

I forgot where this was, sorry.
The issue wasn't the fight though, it's the rules. Directly attacking each other isn't a good idea. It's more of a matter of who can come up with something faster, and who can execute their plan. Like many people have said, Dr. Doom has taken out greater beings than Magneto, and Magneto is solely reliant on his powers at this point. Doom isn't an idiot (lol) and he knows that's the only edge Magneto has. Given that he has near infinite resources and that time is a resource, i can't see a situation that Magneto wouldn't be forced into that poor idea if he plans on winning. He'd have to play a queen's gambit against a professional chess player. I just don't see Magneto getting the edge in that situation.

And that is what I voted on. I don't care who hypothetically controls what part of the world, or who is or isn't alive. I'm talking a one on one may the best man win sort of thing.
Hmm... that is true.
Could Magneto - or any
mangod - ever make a No-stick for Doom? But for our other villain, if Magneto can't do his metal-movey thing, he's as frail as an old man. (oh wai-)
Heck, there's that shamed encounter with Xavier where he didn't *think* he could use his power - y'know, with the wooden guns? - and he totally folded. Okay, it's apocryphal, but my point is made.
Nice thinking Irmis.
Each controls an empire. So Magneto's personal abilities aren't much in general. But if Doom can put him in a critical situation when he hits his off-switch, it could be TPK.

Dr. Doom has fought people on Magneto's power level and has won. Since they know of each other Dr. Doom has time to plan ahead...which is when he is most likely to win.
Control is the ultimate expression of power.
