Why did John hush Hurley when he mentioned the tail?
Seemed to me Locke just didn't want Hurley giving out too much info to this stranger. They're a lot more wary than before, having tangled with the Others and their endless list of spies.
Wow, what a great episode. This season is heating up.
So now they have a helicopter that can fit six or seven people. Jack's team includes Jack, Kate, Sayid, Juliet, Rose, and Bernard. We know Hurley is one of the six, as are Jack and Kate. It would seem Frank would be needed in order to pilot the helicopter, so he's probably going to live.
The polar bear is amazing.
I must say, with the exception of Frank, there's nothing remotely interesting about these "Oceanaways". I have no clue what's the deal with Dan, Miles I really wish someone would shoot, ditto Charlotte... Frank's the only remotely likable one.
The big question is where are the Others? And what are they if not Dharma?
What was really amazing about this episode, in my mind, was how Locke survived. He survived because he was shot right where the kidney he lost was. So everything Locke ever went through, including the kidney, was all fated.
Also, we don't necessarily know whether Kate is one of the Oceanic Six. Even if Abbadon et. al. were capable of getting the police off of her tail, it doesn't seem like they could do that and have her be a minor celebrity.
Rowsdower, that's a good point, however it's much less likely that:
Kate would have gotten off the Island without them knowing. Whoever the Others/Dharma/these Oceanic guys are, they've got people providing them intell that are pretty unbelievable. That Kate would simply be there, off the island, alive without them having a clue? Not likely.
Also, we don't necessarily know whether Kate is one of the Oceanic Six. Even if Abbadon et. al. were capable of getting the police off of her tail, it doesn't seem like they could do that and have her be a minor celebrity.
During last season's finale, didn't Jack say something to Kate about them both having free flight vouchers from Oceanic?
Yeah, he did. And uh, I don't mean to ruin anything for anyone, so really don't look at the spoiler tags if you're not prepared:
The Oceanic Six have already been long since confirmed on thefuselage.com, and Kate is definitely one of them.
Also, a sudden theory about why the Freighters are here for Ben: he's the last surviving member of the DHARMA Initiative on the Island, and the man who betrayed and killed them all. The producers have already said that Libby's backstory will be revealed this season though other characters' flashbacks. A lot of people think Libby was a DHARMA plant. The Freighters could be DHARMA, here to drag Ben off the Island and take their own form of retribution against him; they might have known Libby before the plane crash.

... Not even close. Juliet's not only not DHARMA, she's not even an Other really. Mikhail isn't DHARMA, as explained by Sayid. The only DHARMA member we know so far alive on the island is Ben.
I don't think the new people are DHARMA, and I'll explain why:
Ben said the new people were, "The bad guys." Judging from his reaction, which was scared as hell, I'm thinking whatever pushes Ben into the realm of honesty is pretty powerful.
We can tell by Abaddon, whose name is the same as the angel of the Abyss, that the new people are pretty damn scary. Because Abaddon? Freaking scary.
Ben mentioned that the island is undergoing a greater attack than it ever has.
Now, from what we can see of the DHARMA Initiative, they're not the bad guys. In fact, they were trying to prevent the end of the world. The numbers are crucial to their goal.
My belief is that this is another organization desiring to destroy the world through control of the Island.
Not to mention that Ben said that they want him because he has someone on their boat. Now, how they would know the name of Benjamin Linus is fascinating when there are no outside communications, as well as how they'd have a picture of him off the island when Ben doesn't seem like the person who'd leave. I guess we'll find it out in the next episode.
Have any of you guys read the stuff over at TimeLoopTheory.com? It's some really REALLY interesting stuff. I'm not sure I agree completely with what he's saying, but he's got some really good ideas and arguments. I think he's at least on the right track, or in the general vicinity of the key/answer to the series.

Whoa, I think there might be something to that. An entertaining theory at least.

so i don't have a cell phone so it won't do me any good but...
did anyone call the oceanic helpline number that was on the tv frank was watching last week? if so, what, if any, information does it return you? and if not and somebody feels froggy the number was 1-888-548-0034. they had one of those little pop up blips during the replay tonight basically telling people to call it. i'm guessing not many people thought of calling it last week?
Also, Ben got off the island! Holy crap. That's good news because I'm really hoping for Desmond surviving as well. Also, it looks like Ben's sending hitmen against the people who're attacking the island. Nice to know the little bugger's useful.
Hurley faking out Sayid, of all people, was pretty amazing. On the subject of fake outs, wondering whether or not Kate really stayed out of her own free will. Just the kind of fake out the Lost writers would give to us.
So now Jacob's on the loose. Wonder where he's headed next.
I'm glad they've kind of figured out a way to rotate the characters so that the important ones are brought to the forefront, but can then be shuffled out during out people's episodes.
Glad Sayid finally had something to do too, it seems like everyone now has a new role or significance, except perhaps Claire, who's been "girl with baby" a bit too long, and Sun+Jin.
And Ben being Sayid's boss? That's fricking crazy - At first, in that scene, I was really expecting Christian Shephard to be the boss. But Ben works too.
These last three episodes have gotten progressively better--which is amazing because the season premier was great.
Does anyone know (I'm looking at you, Mikey G) if they have officially shortened the season or if, since the writers came back, they will try to finish out the other half of the eps?

There's going to be a short-ish (?) break after the eighth episode, and then they're going to mke six more. That's only two shorter than they originally planned, and honestly I think it could be a good move. Even though it means we get less LOST, it means the episodes we do get are going to move that much faster. So far, this season's been like a rocket compared even to s3, let alone 2 or 1.

No, not quite. According to Kristin over at E!Online, Lost will take a short break after the seventh episode which airs on March 13th. Then it returns April 17th with the last episode completed prior to the strike (episode 8, obviously). Following that, the five episodes ordered to be made after the strike will air beginning April 24th (where the show will switch timeslots as well). Season 4 will be 13 episodes.
That's slightly different than other sourcesare saying, but it would seem the only point of contention is whether there will be a break after episode seven or episode eight. Or if there'll be a break at all, apparently. The final word on how many episodes were ordered post-strike is confirmed at 5.

One thing that struck me at the end was something I had been thinking about during season 3: they had been keeping Sayid and Desmond's interactions fairly limited. Their most extensive time together is during "The Cost of Living," and even then, they don't get anywhere near to one thing they have in common: Kelvin Joe Inman.
Not that this would be an easy connection to make, but Sayid is the kind of person who would grill Desmond about his time on the Island before the crash. And now that they are going to be in their own plot arc, it seems like it might finally come up. I also never thought that Kelvin was dead...maybe he's Ben's man on the boat?
Also, regarding timelooptheory.com...I think it's safe to say that the entire structure of the season so far, and this episode in particular, blow that theory to pieces.
Bad-ass episode.

Hm, I'm not so sure. What about that missle experiment that came later than it should have. That's about the only thing that really matched up well this season though.
