I wasn't aware stat growth had anything to do with luck, but if it does then yea, that's really lucky because he wrecks everything he hits. Flare Blitz almost always one shots pokemon who take .5 fire damage and don't have high def.
lol I forgot about sheer focus as well. Wow that thing's busted. I'm thinking it might make uber at the rate it's going. o_O
I don't play competitive, so my buddy is going to get a pretty sweet pokemon after I sell the game to him.

Getting a Pokemon that you don't normally get with a Nature that is ridiculously good (which is something like a 1 in 40 or worse chance) for it is really ALL luck. It has nothing to do with stat growth. It has to do with the fact that he got a Magikarp (the ONE that you get) with stat that really shines on Gyarados.
In an eight player game, is anything good? Don't you just sit there countering combos until someone genesis waves for 42 after all the blue players tap out fighting over a bribery?
Hi all, I am coming here for advice (scared to death of smogon lol).
I used to play pokemon a lot but stopped because of other interests, including mtg :p. I am thinking about getting this new game but want to get some things clarified.
Is it true that effort values are out of the game? That would make it a bit easier to create good pokemons.
Are IVs still insanely hard to breed for? I remember riding up and down for hours while watching TV hoping for those sexy 31/31/28+ IVs but never really got them lol.
Is there a big enough competitive scene on the wifi for it to be worth training pokemons on the ds or is pokemon online a better choice? Subjective question but still want some inputs.
technically speaking, it is a bit tougher to IV breed now. they removed the 50 and 100 battles, so you need a fat stack of rare candies and a calculator to check the IVs on your new buddies.

What to do after the Elite Four?
I know there's lots of stuff to do. What do I need to do? (Rechallenge the E4, 7 Sages, etc.) And what can I do on a daily basis? Can someone help me out?

Ok, so everyone who plays this game does NOT visit this site whenever they're playing? Why?!
lol, I keep forgetting about the fossils. Plus, there's a lot of routes to visit, trainers to battle, items to collect... These versions are basically the pokemon games with most replay value so far. There's the huge task of completing the National Dex and all that. And if you want to be entertained, go to Village Bridge and talk to all four musicians. It's worth it.
Since I imagine Pokemon Grey will be out in 2012/2013 (and probably the 5th gen I'll get), I wonder what Pokemon game(s) will be out in 2011/2012.... Any guesses?
(PS, in case you're confused, by Pokemon Grey I mean the third version of the 5th gen, as you know that GameFreaks tend to release a third version after the first two of their game gens normally after at least two years. Example: Ruby-Sapphire and Emerald, Diamond-Pearl and Platinum)

Personally I want to see a remake of Pokemon Puzzle League. One of the best puzzle games for the N64
It seems like everyone goes with Archen when they have to choose fossils. But I kind of want to go with Tirtouga. Besides the "it's your game you should do whatever you want" is that an optimal way to go when deciding between the two?
I grabbed Tirtouga. Just seemed more interesting to me personally. Though I do need to find someone with a Archen eventually just to have it.

I dunno. Check stats and movepool?
serebii's a good site for info. I don't really like the admin of the site (we were competition years ago, after all, so we hear not so good things about the guy once in a while), but I can't deny that it's a good site for info. So is bulbapedia.
So far I am playing the English Pokemon Black version, and I'm enjoyin' it immensely. I picked Oshawott as starter, and it came with timid nature. Well, at least I can use him as a special sweeper ingame.
And then I grabbed Archen in the fossil-ressurector - Sadly it was a Modest one. No use. (Breeding so early in the game sucks)
I am currently crossing the Chargestone Cave, with this team:
Dewott lv 34
Stoutland lv 35
Excadrill lv 35
Vanillite lv 32
Gligar lv 46 (got in the GTS, for free)
last slot is reserved for Stunfisk.

According to serebii, Archen has too many weaknesses so I went with Tirtouga.

Archeops has significantly better stats than Carracosta, which has rather modest stats. It's the reason why most prefer Archeops.
@ Guilan
You could have restarted the game to get a better nature. That's what I did. I turned the game on and off until I found either a Jolly or Adamant Archen.
Anybody here playing b/w competitively, either via Wi-fi or Pokemon-Online? I'm personally playing a Politoed-based rain team (for the uninitiated, Politoed received Drizzle via the Dream World) with a Thunder/Hydro Pump/Trick/Volt Change Rotom-W @ Choice Specs, 252 Spe, 252 Spa, 4 HP for epic double STABs and a Gale/U-Turn/HP Ice/Focus Blast Tornadus to patch up wholes. Choice Scarf Hippowdon wraps it up by dealing with stat-uppers.
So yeah anyone else play? Also @serafis, PLEASE don't recommend serebii. That site is so error-ridden it scares me. I suggest bulbapedia and, when it updates, Smogon.

Serebii can be ok for upcoming events, but the site owner can be a real pain in the arse saying his site is the best when the other two sites you've mentioned are way better

Played competitive last gen and did really well if I do say so myself. Kind of waiting until the the metagame stabilizes before I start competitive this gen, but from what I've seen weather teams are all the rage. That's unfortunate for me, as I really dislike weather for some reason. *shrugs*
Drizzle Politoed seems to be a fun 'mon to use though. Also, super excited that Blaziken will be OU this gen since he's one of my favorites.
