"There are times when the word **** is justified, for example, you are on a crowded underground train, and the gent behind you is gently caressing your buttocks, somehow "Excuse me interrupting what for you is clearly a pleasurable experience but could I ask you politely to desist" does not carry the same urgency as "**** off you pervert." - Bill Connolly
I had to look up the word mortgage it is a term I have not used in english before. I get where you are going with this even though I don't think payments on the loan are actually made. I don't think anyone sees the US paying off said loan or even a fraction of it in my life time. I could be wrong though. What you meant is do I like those that I owe money right? I am not sure I would say I like them but I definitely do not hate them. I would probably be grateful that said loaner helped me out when I needed it.
ahh. I know that the loan won't get payed off soon-that doesn't mean that I should be happy that my kids will be saddled with trillions in debt.

Such an intentional plot would be both stupid and pointless. Stupid, because it's not in China's interest that American consumers be afraid of merchandise coming out of the country. Pointless, because the deaths and injuries caused by the poisonings would be imperceptibly miniscule on the large scale. You'd be much more likely on to something if you'd said Japan is trying to exterminate the US population by selling us cars with which to kill ourselves.

Vive, vale. Siquid novisti rectius istis,
candidus inperti; si nil, his utere mecum.
WWIII (as any kind of war that bears a similarity to the previous two) will never happen. Here's why.
WWI especially is an example of a war that was merely an artifact of its time (a la the nationalistic environment of turn-of-the-century Europe and the alliance system). WWII benefited from such a system as well, although less so - that war happened for different, although similar and related, reasons. Such a system does not exist today. Regional blocs and treaty organizations aside, it is not like the United States and its allies are geared against China. Indeed, one might argue that globalization will prevent future wars like those.
Thomas Friedman has (had?) a theory he proposed in his book The Lexus and the Olive Tree, known as the McDonalds Theory of International Relations. It goes: No country with a McDonalds has ever fought a war with another country with a McDonalds. Now, of course, this isn't completely true (Pakistan and India spar off-and-on over Kashmir, for example), but it serves a valuable lesson.
See, because trade has become less structured and more open, countries are more reliant on each other. Before, countries' success was measured in fewer things - monetary funds, territory, etc. - but today, markets have become interdependent. This is part of the reason why the current United States economic snafu has everyone worried, because the United States is a keystone in the modern international economic system. If a country were to, say, declare war on the United States, it would be seriously harmed. Not just because the United States has the military capability to seriously damage any nation (even separate of nuclear capability - our problem is rebuilding :D), but also because that nation would be significantly harmed with regards to trade.
So all this talk over "global warming's impact" and "China's going to conquer the United States" is all malarky. China has no reason to be antagonistic to the United States, because they're one of our largest markets. Simply put, economics says that war is becoming more and more of a lost cause. Military actions are where it's at.
They delivered poisoned pet food, killing off thousands upon thousands of pets across the united states.
Their toy manufacturor's delivered lead based painted toys for children to the US.... It looks somewhat suspicious, since it happaned pretty close together and by two very different means of ways to poison us or things we love.
Or, it could just be that the manufacturers, in some crazy bid to make money while taking advantage of a lack of health codes and proper regulations, decided they'd charge you full price for something that has no quality. This is otherwise known as a scam. They have them all over the world.
THe past is our present and the history repeats once again.
... On what possible basis can anyone say that?
Seriously, everyone says history is doomed to repeat itself and other such chestnuts, but where's the basis for this?
THe fall of Rome Empire, and Now the fall of the economy of the United States, This year's they are
the first steps of the way to the United States Fall, maybe nobody see it but its a true, The USA Economic is going down. Are allies of the empire will feel that, and China is going to be the most rich country in the world
... Assuming this were true, this is analogous to the Roman Empire how exactly?
I think this probably belongs somewhere other than 'Water Cooler Talk'. Like, maybe Debate.
And I highly doubt there will be allies at all. If it comes down to firing missles. Well, it will be a short war.
Short indeed. If worldwide nuclear war were to start, remember how many warheads each country has: Russia: 28,240 United States: 12,070 France: 510 China: 425 United Kingdom: 400 Israel, India, Pakistan, Korea: Uncertain
Each country with nuclear weapons has the capability to detect nuclear launches made by other countries. This would allow just one launch (by anyone) to start a chain reaction, allies or no. The civilized surfaces of the planet would be devastated in under 2 hours. Nuclear fallout stays active on surfaces and in the air for 2 weeks. So yes, very short war.
But the thing is, IT WILL NOT HAPPEN. The nightmare of WW3 has been tossed around since not long after WW2. There are no more wars, only military police actions. The world is a lot different than it used to be. There isn't a single country that doesn't rely greatly on another country or countries. There may be those who say certain countries hate one another, but hard feelings between a few particular individuals in power does not equal malice or ever lead to war being an option.
Oh, I thought everyone knew.... assuming does make an ass out of you and me I guess...
They delivered poisoned pet food, killing off thousands upon thousands of pets across the united states.

No, it's coincidence + media drama. China's just full of counterfeit products. It's one of the biggest problems that country faces. There's poisoned products in China, too. There was a massive infant fatality in China from counterfeit milk powder a few years back. The problem is, it's just so hard for the Chinese government to track down all the little back-alley manufacturers and knockoff/counterfeit factories.
Give me three detailed reasons why you think the current US situation parallels that of Rome at the time of either of its falls, and I'll give you three detailed reasons why they are invalid comparisons.
Eh, you'll be suprized how much US is like Rome but here are a few major similiarities.
Buracracy is making anything simple impossible.
Huge ego to both, Romans refered to non-Romans as barbarians.
Detatched government.
This won't kill the US like Rome but we do need to do something about government and buracracy. The ego isn't prevalent in all americans but the government needs to stop acting like it is the best thing to happen since sliced bread.

I'm just curious where you got these numbers? I just find it hard to believe Russia has nearly thirty thousand nuclear warheads.

Buracracy [sic] is making anything simple impossible.
To the quite limited extent that Rome had a bureaucracy, it was a force for stability and efficiency, much as the far more sophisticated bureaucracies of the United States and other modern nations are today. I'm not even sure what sort of things you're referring to when you say they're made impossible. Taxes were and are collected, laws were and are passed, officials were and are elected, life did and does go on.
Huge ego to both, Romans refered to non-Romans as barbarians.
Nationalism is a feature common to most every even moderately unified nation-state. You might as well say the US is like Rome because both had a single dominant language (which, in the latter part of the Imperial age, wasn't even true).
The Roman Republic fell because the government was literaly uncapable of feeding the people and they didn't care. The current administration shows that not only does it not understand what the people want it doesn't even care. Alterior motives have become their only motives and republican rome was the same way. We do share some similarities to imperial rome, but not as many.
IMO we are already in the early stages of World War 3. But I don't believe it is a traditional war. I do not believe world war 3 is a war where you will see massive armies clashing on beaches or even Nukes being thrown around. I believe it will be a series of conflicts, like Iraq and Afghanistan, that will lead to a larger conflict within the Middle east. It is already happening all over the world, Wikipedia has an article that shows how widespread the conflict is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_on_terror and it shows that the war on terror is far from Isolated just to Iraq and Afghanistan.
To me the war on terror is World War 3, no matter how you feel about it IMO there are certain facts that support the idea of it being world war 3. What else would you call a war involving conflict and deaths in nearly 30 nations? 48 Nations were involved with the Afghan war either by directly sending troops, special forces, equipment, or allowing access and use of airspace. Nearly 40 Nations did the same for the Iraq war. NATO and the UN are also heavily involved in Africa, where several NATO nations not involved in Iraq are involved in military and training campaigns. South East Asia is also a hotbed for conflict. With that many nations involved, the possibility of the conflict spreading to Iran and the rest of the middle east, Europe, Russia, and South East Asia, and even more conflict on the horizon how can it not be considered World War 3, or at least the begining of it? Yes at this point it doesn't have near the numbers of nations involved as World War 2, or near the casualties, but this war has a serious chance of boiling over even further.
What might happen is Similar to a world war one scenario. Israel Attacked Syria this summer, it didn't get much press but they hit Nuke facilities there. If Iran Continues its verbal assaults and threats then I will not be surprised to See Israel strike facilities there. Which will lead to Iran striking back. Which will cause a chain reaction of nations rushing to the support of either side. Most likely The US and the rest of NATO backing Israel and Russia + China (Despite their dislikes of each other they both have been vocal in supporting Iran) Backing Iran. This last paragraph was all speculation but it's something i could see happening.
The United states is already preparing for a war of this kind as is evident by the new weapons that have been developed, see Metal Storm as an example. Any Weapon that can fire over 1,000,000 bullets a minutes is designed for fighting China's Superior numbers IMO (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal_Storm).

Actually, this weapon is planned for two things:
1. Equipping on large, non-agile aircraft, to stop incoming missiles quickly.
2. Setting up in front of battlements, bunkers, etc. to stop a wave of infantry.
Also, China having large numbers has nothing to do with it. If you've seen the weapon, you'll notice it really only fires once. And it's over in a second, since it's made to be a "wall of bullets", not a machine gun pod for long-term support. China's large infantry is what missiles and grenades are for.

Good point. On the Military channel they did a story about it where they actually set them up and hid them along a valley and i guess they can be fully automated and recognize friend from foe. When I saw it firing though it seemed like it fired in volleys and like you said put up a wall of bullets. You're right though its not for long term support, mainly putting up 6-7 walls of bullets then needing to be reloaded. Very scary weapon. They are also working on hand guns that use the same system as a side arm for infantry soldiers. Incidentally, the reasons behind the collapse of the Roman Empire are varied and controversial. There's no clear list of factors one can point to, but the general idea most can agree on is that the empire simply grew too large too quickly and they lacked the economic structure to sustain it.
