Wuffles, please tell me what you look for when looking for scum.
And I suppose my gambit has failed, so I'd rather not be lynched. I was hoping I would be able to get away with a softclaim while, at the same time not drawing scum night actions through fear.
I am the Cop. My other choices were watcher and tracker, though watcher was oddly worded, as instead of the normal "select a person, see who targets them that night" it was "select a person, see if they use an ability or not that night". Tanarin insisted it was on purpose and what not, so I suppose there's a reason it looks strictly worse than Tracker.
unvote.
What do I look for when looking for scum?!?!
How long is a piece of string.
I tried to answer your ridiculous question as best I could, Mu. The last answer I gave was the best I could give. I don't see the relevance in it either so for now I'm just going to ignore further questions regarding this.
As for your claim, well, this may be modgaming a little bit, but it would be retarded to assume that there is no [cop watcher tracker] in a Upick mafia game. If nobody counterclaims him, I'm willing to give Mu a pass for now, just like shalako. Sigh. Why are all our power roles this game on people that insist on sounding like the scummiest scums that are scum. I don't even.
Hmm. People on the wagon. If I trusted myself to try to analyze the game thus far at 3:40AM, I would do so. Sleepy time.
When a compass can not find north, is it usually the fault of the world?
I think it is a simple question, Wuffles; I want to know specific tells you look for. I think you are avoiding it, however, and further refusal to answer will result in a vote.
Hyperbole much? I didn't say "no townie has ever not claimed". I said a townie not claiming when under the lynch gun is a pointless waste. You seem to be trying for an all-or-nothing defense - that just because some townies have done X, X can't be scummy. But that's silly; this is not a game of 100% probabilities.
You are correct, I misread how much importance you put on that and your slipping memory already had my hackles raised.

Feel free to vote me. Your question is such an obvious trap, Mu. If I answer with specific scumtells (which would be a total copout, because HUMAN BEHAVIOR IS NOT A SERIES OF TELLS that I "look for" and then go on to find people scummy for reasons other than exactly what I've told you, then you'ew just going to vomit my "tells" post up and be all "HAHAHAHAHA I CAUGHT WUFFLES IN A TRAP HE ONLY LOOKS FOR THESE TELLS NORMALLY SEE HE TOLD ME HE DOESNT LOOK FOR THOSE SCUMTELLS HE'S MAKING STUFF UP"
Your trap is so transparent to the point of idiocy. Here is the best answer I can give, and that is all you get.

That is like asking what makes a person a person. It is a combination of responses, behavior, and general lack of helpfulness, and while we can never be 100% sure in forum mafia, makes one far more likely scum than not.
. You can also add "motivation analysis" to what I do to hunt scum too, but that is the only answer you're getting.
@ Toastboy:
1: Re Pinkfloyd - After SM claimed cop, there was simply nothing I could really do to justify continuing voting him unless I believed that he was lying about his claim, which I do not.
I then realized that a combination of Shalako and Sir Mu's play this game so far had disguised the fact that...well, Pink Floyd has no content so far this game (I think) except for mindless wagonning. I don't have the time to check at present, being at work and all, but I will get there. I don't remember a single post of substance, and, well, that might be the biggest scumtell of them all.
As a recovering tunnel-visioner, though, I didn't notice that till now.
2. Re Sir Mu - Honestly, I wanted to believe he was scum. I didn't want to believe another power role is on...well, a certain type of player.
I had a nagging doubt, however, that he was just a stupid townie digging his heels in, and his previous "BOOGA BOOGA BOOGA" play kind of made me realize that. The problem with me, is that it's been four years since the last time I played mafia. I am finding it quite hard to deal with the fact that my thought patterns are shifting when it comes to this game. I'm still trying to adapt to my new playing style.
A style which allows me to be wrong. It almost got me lynched in a current game and I'll be damned if refusing to be wrong on my part gets a townie (even a bad townie that refuses to claim to save his life) mislynched.
As to why I didn't re-vote at the time - I actually forgot that I unvoted.
Re Overjustifying - Maybe I am. I was quite frustrated that two players that for all intents are displaying scum mindsets are so clearly town based on their roles. I wanted to be clear that the only reason why I am not pushing for Shalako or SM's lynch today is because of their roles, NOT their terrible play.
And as for being pre-resigned? If someone had the (or will) counterclaim, I would have been all over that ****. Do not get me wrong in that I still believe, behaviorally, that Shalako and Mu are not playing like townies that want the town to win.
Surety shalako is town - OF COURSE IT IS DUE TO MODGAMING HAVE YOU READ NOTHING I HAVE SAID? NOTHING SHALAKO HAS DONE TODAY HAS BEEN TOWNIE IN THE LEAST BUT MAFIA MEMBERS DO NOT GET MULTIPLE DAYKILLS IN A MINI UNLESS THE HOST IS A TOTAL RETARD WHICH TAN IS NOT.
Do not make me repeat that again. I hate people that can't read. You won't like wuffles when he's angry. He eats mailboxes.
AE is scumhunting - Have you ever PLAYED with scum AE? He doesn't help at all. He obfuscates everything. He's the worst mafioso ever, at least in my previous experience. That WAS four years ago but AE doesn't strike me as one that changes like seppel did over the years.
Unvote. @ToastBoy, I've reread the last few posts you've made and you are definitively town.
Accepting Sir Mu's claim and the ridiculousness of Shalako shot (see Toastboy's thoughts on this matter)
Leaves me 8 suspects.
Which leads me into the oddity of the non-revote in the die scum post of Wuffles. But since I've never played with Wuffles, I'll let the explanation stand of forgetfulness. And Wuffles does seem like frutrated town, when I read him.
I'm amused that [Shalako], of all people, are talking about terrible reasoning. "Hey, PF's RVS daykill must be serious, therefore I should shoot him to prove that I have a daykill!"

How can it be a trap if I'm town? What possible townie motivations could I have to asking you a question, only to spin any answer you give into saying you are scum? I'm not looking for an exhaustive list, nor will I chastise you if you include things which you are also guilty of. So I ask you again, what sort of things do you look for, specifically?
hmm infinis is town imo, toastboy reads town too...
shalako and sir mu are town based on virtue of their roles. can't simply poe scum down based on the set up at this stage.
pf is possibly scum based on his inability to be vigged but it can also be said that he is possibly town based on his inability to be nkd. im thinking the only way to solidify what he is is either cop him or lynch him. im thinking he is targetable based on the fact that the flavor said the shot connected.

Still in this one. Finding it hard to allocate time to it, though. You know the drill, though: when I come back, it'll be with a full re-read, so bear with me for a bit longer.

This conversation is over. I'm not repeating myself again.
I do not know what any line of questioning will reveal until it reveals something. So far nothing has been revealed to me except an annoyance at Wuffles not answering. Preferably it tells me his alignment; if he is town, he should want to answer such a questions to reveal his town alignment. That he does not want to answer would be suspicious, if it were not for the ever-present fact in Mafia that townies do not make the best decisions at all times and that he may be legitimately annoyed at my questioning.
I will ask again Wuffles, what specific responses and behavior do you look for to determine if a person is scum? I am not asking you for always-confirming ones, as those probably do not exist. I am not asking you to move a mountain, but to simply place down words. Even if you have not ever thought in the past what you look for, a situation which I doubt to be true, it must be the case that you are at least capable of such thought. Though I can not know your alignment in either direction if you continue to refuse to answer, I will be forced to assume the worst and call your lynch anyway. Should you flip scum, I suppose Emo_Pinata would be next choice.

Yet, here I am, having to do it again. Vote me, push for my lynch, do whatever you think is right mu.
How can you understand it if it's terrible? Are you assuming a low level of intelligence?
Is this a rhetorical question? -People are impulsive, emotional, and irrational. Very few individuals, if any, can always make the absolute best decision (or even a good one) in any given situation.
The trick to behavioral scum hunting isn't finding anti-town play (because townies do stupid things that hurt the town all the time), rather the trick is finding anti-town play where the motivation doesn't make sense.
I do not know what any line of questioning will reveal until it reveals something.
Here's the deal Mu, questioning without purpose is not scum hunting or analysis - it's satiating a curiosity. If you are prying for information in order to find a reason, you will be drawing conclusion simply out of zeal and not actually gaining any quantifiable results. You're just going to wind up thinking he's scum with no actual logic behind it.

Come on, try. -Are they players you feel act scummy as town, players you feel make bad decisions, players you feel aren't careful enough, players you think are too aggressive, or too passive, or who don't do enough analysis, ect. And why does that make you not want to see them with power roles?
They are players you feel act scummy as town, players you feel make bad decisions, players you feel aren't careful enough, players you think are too aggressive, or who don't do enough analysis.
Fixed.
I think it's pretty easy to gauge from my play so far this game why I don't like power roles on certain players. Shalako for example has one of the most powerful roles I have ever seen in a mini - an unlimited dayvig? Insanely powerful.
And do I think he deserves a role like this based on how he has used it? No. He's not trying to help the town with it at all. He's arbitrary, arrogant and more importantly, the scariest thing, is that the bull**** arguments he put forth as to why he did it he seems to himself seriously believe. Quite frankly I don't think his play this game rightfully deserves that he should live. But he's the dayvig, and that's that.
Mu on the other hand pings my scumdar so hard that I don't even. The ONLY thing that saved him was role-related, and quite frankly I don't think his play this game rightfully deserves that he should live. But he's the cop, and that's that.
Okay, I agree that I'd prefer the dayvig to be on a more cautious player. But what's so bad about Mu being the cop? -His role saved us from mislynching a townie, and he can't really screw up an investigation (at worst, he misses and clears someone), so what's the problem?

Sigh. Bad townies make bad decisions. That's all I am trying to say, and that only a power-role claim saved Mu. If he weren't a power-role he wouldn't have that crutch to lean on when we called him on his bad play today. Quite frankly I don't believe he deserves to live.
@ Mu - No, I'm offended that you are able to use your power role as a life-saving crutch. Your play today has been awful. You have spent the last three days asking the same inane, pointless question to me instead of scumhunting. More importantly, you've been distracting ME from doing so, which I am annoyed at myself for falling into the trap of.
This is all I am going to say on this, because I don't want to delve any further into ad-hom. I hope you both understand. I still plan to re-read PF when I get time.
Wuffles, don't tell anyone this, I'm not sure how they would respond, but I'm just a terrible player who played pretty good one time and since then went to absolute terrible play adopting habits of play which are absolutely terrible.
Anyway, I see no compelling reason to vote Infinis.
So DK scum and bulletproof scum? Maybe balanced, if you out yourself as DK and get lynched, at least one scum team member HAS to be lynched...but I doubt it. Voting either is a horri-bad idea. Wuffles too.
@Archonoid - I asked two questions in the post you cited. You deftly avoided answering either with an attack.
However, there are two other factors 1) He doesn't know if he has a daykill and is testing it 2) He wants to make sure his daykill is utilized
It is extremely bad form to Daykill this early, is it valid though? I've argued before any vote on a wagon is the hammer vote and hence a kill. Is the daykill no different? Instead of having to wait for majority the kill is instant. Some people trust their reads way too much. Statistic wise it was a no-no, if you play by gut then it was just not nice.
If he is just testing an ability...Daykill is not the place I would start, I would wait for a hammer situation and then test it. Bad play again.
So in summary, it was a [expletive deleted] move, I wouldn't do it. And doing so is a soft claim. I also said not to mention any parameters for a soft claim and what did I get
Butters up to Wuffles and dips a toe in the archonoid direction.
He's quoting your post suggesting a Shalako/pinkfloyd scum team and rolling it around in his head openly as a possibility (albeit a slim one) before saying AE is "85% right" in his case against you which starts out using that same post as a reason to think you're scum.
So now that everyone's all chummy over here, can we vote infinis?
Maybe, but I'd prefer PF, or possibly Wuffles who I'm now rereading.
BTW, wuffles, the correct answer was, "I'm upset at Mu for acting so scummy that he was forced to claim, outing our cop D1." Your answer of, "I'm upset his role prevented a mislynch," isn't really a townie motivation for anger here.
A.E honestly have you played with me before? I mean this is either a bad week for you or selective amnesia. My wuffles comment? Really? You're using that?
And I'm leaning in Archonoid's direction, yes, but he hasn't done anything alarmingly scummy, just the minor issue I pointed out.
I'm amused that [Shalako], of all people, are talking about terrible reasoning. "Hey, PF's RVS daykill must be serious, therefore I should shoot him to prove that I have a daykill!"

I agree. That is why I am now putting it to rest. My opinions on Mu and Shalako are not helpful in the slightest.
I agree. That is why I am now putting it to rest. My opinions on Mu and Shalako are not helpful in the slightest.
Alright, I think I get where your head is; and I'm okay with it. -If it makes you feel any better, I prefer the worst players to get the best roles, like cop and doc -it puts the scum in the difficult position of choosing between NKing skill or power.
Maybe, but I'd prefer PF, or possibly Wuffles who I'm now rereading.
I haven't had any issues with Wuffles. Whats the issue with PF. I feel that scum would jump at a lynch of PF if in fact she is town. That has me wary. I guess I can look back but I'd prefer a reason now while I look at Archonoid and Infinis.

WwaB has done nothing today. Wants to lynch PF based on role. Has said nothing about PF in game. Has a town read on Infinis and toastboy. Really?
With so little posts you get a town read on them? Maybe its legit, maybe those posts are content full and take stances on the days top discussions. I will have to look into that also. I feel Wolf is trying to stay under the radar.

It can not involve me due to my lack of posting so who is it?
On the post below what do you think about A.E.?
It is not clear to me if you think he is town or mafia.
Alright, I think I get where your head is; and I'm okay with it. -If it makes you feel any better, I prefer the worst players to get the best roles, like cop and doc -it puts the scum in the difficult position of choosing between NKing skill or power.
the you vs other people was what I was refering to as boring action.
im 50/50 on ae's alignment, just thought his timing was...well convienent. is he currently distracting from a wagon by looking into me?
1) your missing the point, i never said i wanted to take either of those actions, just listing them.
2) no one is obviously town as of right now for all i know you could both be scum and that daykill thing was a powerplay..., read what you want shally, its still just a read. you keep your opinions about players and ill keep mine

Dude's a dude, dude.
(Funny, because pinkysbrain, who is a woman, gets mistakenly called a man.)
Anyhow, I want Infinis to explain his opportunism on my wagon. I already have an explanation in mind, but I want to see if his matches.
@Sir Mu My vote wasn't opportunistic. Someone made a case. I agreed with a majority of it. I voted based on a case. Even if you throw out a majority of the post, he made two solid points that deserved the vote.
Unvote. again.
So I'll sum up. One I'm opportunistic. Two, I don't post enough and Three neither A.E or E.P have played with me before. Alright hope that clears things up.
I'm amused that [Shalako], of all people, are talking about terrible reasoning. "Hey, PF's RVS daykill must be serious, therefore I should shoot him to prove that I have a daykill!"
He has 21 posts and a lot of them are RVS/"post tomorrow" votes. The only time he even makes a comment regarding anything of value was around the Shalako fiasco when he explained why he let Shalako waste his shot. Fair enough.
What I really, really, REALLY don't like was the way he jumped on the SM wagon. He gave no explanation whatsoever for it, and
hey.
Mu, I just figured out one of the tells I specifically look for in mafia games.
Votes with no explanation.
Townies explain their votes because they legitimately believe that is the reason why they are voting.
Scums jump on wagons without good reason. Why? Because they know the wagon is going toward a mislynch and DON'T WANT TO BE GIVING BAD REASONS FOR IT.
So, they vote and increase the mislynch probability while not actually adding any new information to it. Why? Because they're trying to mislynch.
What do I look for when looking for scum?!?!
How long is a piece of string.

A lot of it depended on Mu being scum, so it's irrelevant now. -I'm still rereading to see where I want to head next.
Can you explain a little more what you mean here, and why that thought bothers you?
Mmm, a reasonable statement.
Come on, try. -Are they players you feel act scummy as town, players you feel make bad decisions, players you feel aren't careful enough, players you think are too aggressive, or too passive, or who don't do enough analysis, ect. And why does that make you not want to see them with power roles?
Unless someone wants to counterclaim him? Please?
@ Mu - No, I'm offended that you are able to use your power role as a life-saving crutch. Your play today has been awful. You have spent the last three days asking the same inane, pointless question to me instead of scumhunting. More importantly, you've been distracting ME from doing so, which I am annoyed at myself for falling into the trap of.
This is all I am going to say on this, because I don't want to delve any further into ad-hom. I hope you both understand. I still plan to re-read PF when I get time.
Anyway, I see no compelling reason to vote Infinis.

Toys with the idea.
Votes on postulating that idea.

Butters up to Wuffles and dips a toe in the archonoid direction.
And I'm leaning in Archonoid's direction, yes, but he hasn't done anything alarmingly scummy, just the minor issue I pointed out.
12-11? I'm losing track
Alright, I think I get where your head is; and I'm okay with it. -If it makes you feel any better, I prefer the worst players to get the best roles, like cop and doc -it puts the scum in the difficult position of choosing between NKing skill or power.
Unvote Vote pinkfloyd
Point it out.
Ok you did. I also want to look at archonoid, and will look back on infinis.
I haven't had any issues with Wuffles. Whats the issue with PF. I feel that scum would jump at a lynch of PF if in fact she is town. That has me wary. I guess I can look back but I'd prefer a reason now while I look at Archonoid and Infinis.
Are you talking to Emo?
They hate us cause they ain't us.

One person is Voting me but I have 2 votes on me

What is the Blah blah townon town action that is transpiring that you are unintrested in?
It can not involve me due to my lack of posting so who is it?
On the post below what do you think about A.E.?
It is not clear to me if you think he is town or mafia.
I also read it as you wanting to lynch PF.
What with you talking about how the 2 ways to "test" him is to lynch him or Cop him.
Like he is not obviously town already.

It is not clear to me why you are voting Pf.

Not going to lynch an un-cc'ed cop. unvote.
TFF, please do explain why you're voting PF.
im 50/50 on ae's alignment, just thought his timing was...well convienent. is he currently distracting from a wagon by looking into me?
1) your missing the point, i never said i wanted to take either of those actions, just listing them.
2) no one is obviously town as of right now for all i know you could both be scum and that daykill thing was a powerplay..., read what you want shally, its still just a read. you keep your opinions about players and ill keep mine

Dude's a dude, dude.
(Funny, because pinkysbrain, who is a woman, gets mistakenly called a man.)
Anyhow, I want Infinis to explain his opportunism on my wagon. I already have an explanation in mind, but I want to see if his matches.
Yes.
And using the quantity v quality, argument?
@Sir Mu My vote wasn't opportunistic. Someone made a case. I agreed with a majority of it. I voted based on a case. Even if you throw out a majority of the post, he made two solid points that deserved the vote.
Unvote. again.
So I'll sum up. One I'm opportunistic. Two, I don't post enough and Three neither A.E or E.P have played with me before. Alright hope that clears things up.
12-11? I'm losing track
Hmm. I learned something today.
Vote Pinkfloyd.
I can get totally behind a pinkfloyd lynch.
