Still have never played in a game that involved any level of culting (both South Park and Meadows technically had CLs; neither lived long enough to recruit a member). Can't wait to come up against one (or even better, be one.)
You're in luck! I recently reviewed a game with a cult mechanic. Though after reading this thread I might have to get back to the host about tweaking the setup...
Cults are easy. You just come into the thread the next day saying how you were recruited and you don't want to be a cultist, so you gotta find the CL and kill them.

Then you do, and you're town again.
Win win.
Except I have seen more cults that have the cultees die when the cult leader dies. See FFVII for an example.
W may only be paid with white mana. U may only be paid with blue mana. B may only be paid with black mana. R may only be paid with red mana. G may only be paid with green mana. C may only be paid with colorless mana. 1 may be paid with white, blue, black, red, green, or clolorless mana.
Biggest regret since I backed down to 1-2 games a year: playing fewer with Cyan. I consider my second game, the first Star Trek mafia, to consist of almost all of the players I've loved and looked up to over the years. And now they're like all gone, just Az left and maybe a couple more. Damn.
In Amistaria, TFF could not have been scummier in his early game exchange with Azrael. He accumulated a few quick votes, and then came back with some ridiculously lame 'I was getting ready to vote Az and he just saw it and beat me to it' and..somehow...everyone believed it. Even though it was obvious nonsense if you simply read the exchange in question.
I'm guessing you didn't read our team's scumchat postgame then? -I thought Az was part of the opposing scum team for the whole game, and actually was moving towards voting him there. I even had a vote for Az included in the post prior to that incident, second guessed myself about the timing, and took it out. The anger I felt afterwards was more about coming under attention I easily could have avoided, but don't be upset with the other players that I managed to spin that emotion into something that sounded like it came from a pro-town mindset, and especially don't be upset with them for believing a story that was true.
If this forum had Greasers, Phoenix, Commons and Semantics would be the leaders of the gang and every time they commented on something they would do a synchronized finger snap then smoke a cigarette.

Just AZ, DYH, and RafK really. Everyone else that was in the game that stands out in my memory(Hawkeye, Puzzle, Stormblind, bateleur, Chimpanzee, Chamber, Fadeblue, Arimnaes, CropCircles..can't remember the rest) is gone now. It's funny that you mention Trek Mafia, as that game is one of my greatest overall memories. The playerbase in that game was incredibly solid for a full sized game(I believe it had 22 people), the game was so well designed, etc. It doesn't get a ton of recognition because it was just a normal, but I would argue for that game being the best run game ever on this site(that I've played in, at least). Axelrod is definitely one of those 'few mods' that I would sign up for another of his games without thinking twice about it.
Here here. Loran got a start there, too. I think it doesn't get a lot of credit because the scum team (us) just lurked to victory while the town imploded. Damn fun to watch, though. And such a good player base.
Quick, someone design a game that will make Cyan come back.
I've been working on it.
Like, I really don't think people realize how much I'll miss him in games. Yes, we fight, non-stop, every time we play together. He's still one of my favorite people to play with, though.

I definitely did not lurk to victory. Just the rest of you slackers. I just went along with every single wagon in the game(both town and scum) to try to avoid giving away any information.
I definitely got the benefit of the doubt of 'being a newb' in that game, and rode it allllllllllll the way home. That's probably why I never want to let anyone else use 'I'm a newb' as an excuse, heh.

THAT EXPLAINS IT
Also, you guys are all awesome.
Did you think people wouldn't care you were leaving? Tsk tsk.
It's so weird seeing you without an avatar again. I'll make sure we have one ready for you whenever you decide to play again.
To be honest, I'm surprised that this many people had something to say. It's touching, in a silly emotional way that I probably shouldn't feel over some friends from a forum based game.
Well I hope you come back soon Cyan. For how much you sometimes annoy (anger?) me in games I do respect you as a player more than most players here and you are always fun to play with.
As for the no avatar, I actually prefer you like that. I just got so used to you without an avatar that I am still not used to you with one. It's just weird.
I just learned a lot from Cyan and its sad to think no one else will be able to learn from him. He's a talented player and has always been my favorite rival.
It might be just a game, but each game is easily months long. That much time together doing anything bonds the players.

Yeah, what he said.
I'm on a break from playing mafia too at the moment (apart from keeping tabs on the Council thread) but my turn to mod a Normal is starting to get close. I'm sure I'll be up by the end of the year, anyway

Heh, the way the Normal list has been going, probably sooner
Bye cyan hope you comeback soon. Even though I only played one game with you (ogre) and contributed to your mislynch............ crap I'm part of the problem

you could add quietfish i guess, but i would be very very surprised if he ever came back, honestly i feel it would clutter up the list...as for the other i have no business discussing them
You shouldn't be afraid to clutter the list, the purpose of the list is to make mods aware of those users. Skipping over people will make mods lose faith in the list.

No worries, brother. I'm not afraid to clutter the list
But, as I said in the hosting thread, the only one I feels needs any attention (other than being added to the list) is Silent Prophet. He's already on the probation list for chronic replacement.
i guess so but i know him personally and he is almost certainly not coming back and i mean this as a 99.9999999999999% thing seriously he has expressed no interest in ever ever returning to this game.
if you feel like he should be added to the list i would support it based on his actions but i just dont see the point

Pfft, I had you pegged as scum. Alas it was my first time as scum myself (SK) and Puzzle exposed a ton of power roles, and I had other work to do....

I love Joboman, Poggy, Niv, and Vezok, because, while they may not be the best players, they still try to win. Having fun is the most important thing to a game, but I've learned that if you don't try to win, then you're ruining everyone else's fun.
Cyan's one of the few posters that I've been playing with since I started back in 2005 (I think...) but oddly enough I feel like I've very rarely been into any big scuffles with him.
I consider this to be a noteworthy item
I do feel bad about him getting the SK role in my last game only to be investigated Night 0. That sucked :/
To me, more than anything, he's a staple of this glorious game, and it is players of his caliber that make me feel this is without a doubt the best mafia community on the WWW.
I was hoping you'd be around for my upcoming mini, Cyan, but hey, them's the ropes. I'll surely miss playing with you.

It's sad to see you go from the game Cyan (hopefully not for that long), I dont believe I ever got a chance to play with you in a game but from what little i saw of the games you where on you are a great addition to the community, so apologies if i ever caused any of the grief you are suffering in regards to the game, and hope to see you back soon.

We're talking about JW Mafia, right? I remember that game pretty fondly.
Yep Echo in Joss Whedon. I've learned from that role mistake...doesn't do much good to give your SK NK immunity and temporary lynch immunity if you go and make it possible for them to be investigated Night 0.

I'm not sure how much more power you can give it without making it too powerful.
Designing an SK is hard, possibly as difficult as winning with it.
I think that the key to SK design is building in the capability for the role to do something other than just kill people. Atlseal did a good job of this, and I think that in the hands of a more experienced player(no offense intended to Gigas, whom I think did a decent job), the role might have been able to win the game. Too frequently, people that are the SK want to present themselves as the Vig. Even if the town doesn't have a permanent vig on it's own(and sometimes they don't), as soon as it seems like the mafia is done away with, you just get lynched anyway. I've made this mistake myself as the SK.
I agree with your assessment and have actually taken that very issue into consideration for future games I've started to design.
Always treasured some of the wackier Neutral roles in specialties and even normals by great hosts.

Talk about playing to your win condition.
Yeah, don't be a stranger. We're going to miss your lovable personality!
Except I have seen more cults that have the cultees die when the cult leader dies. See FFVII for an example.
That's why you clarify with the mod of the game what will happen upon the CL's death before you do what I did.
And, yes, that's an actual game experience I had.
I'll really, really miss you Cyan, but you already know that.
