Wanted to see how 'real' their vote for me was. Interesting reaction from Seppel so far...if I (and Jskura) am scum, then what's the problem with voting myself?

[font=georgia]The problem is that townies shouldn't vote themselves, so self-voting is either sloppy play or scummy, or both. Seppel's reaction was good, honestly.
Depends on the reason for doing so. I would hardly say that jskura's random voting himself because his name was spelled wrong is 'sloppy'. On the other hand, I decided to call their bluff and join in, see what reaction I could get from it. I can see, in retropsect now, that there probably isn't much benefit from it, especially in the way that I did it.
I'm also not a fan of getting that serious before half the people in the game have even confirmed yet, as well. Asking questions? Okay. Trying to start a wagon? No. Not necessarily saying it's scummy, I just don't like it.

Why do you care how "real" votes are at this point? It'll become apparent soon enough and is definitely not a sufficient reason to vote yourself. What type of reactions would you have been looking for, anyway - what did you expect WoD and Seppel to do if they were joking?
Additionally, your second sentence is horribly scummy. "Interesting" is extremely vague, and a weasely word to avoid directly calling someone scummy. The logic itself is also weak - it would be like saying Seppel shouldn't be chastising you for saying "I'M SCUM" if you were scum.
What I'm reading here is that Gamerz sees people he views as more experienced voting him and attempts to pass it off as a joke by joining his own bandwagon, then attempting to cover this up by the above comment.

"Call their bluff?" - Why would you want to do that, especially considering that you were in no danger of being lynched and that they were obviously fishing for reactions.
Additionally, the second paragraph is more example of "soft" language, repeatedly stressing that he's not calling anyone scummy and avoiding confrontation. "I just don't like it" is hardly ever a sufficient reason for anything in Mafia.

I'm liking Gamerz. You have a point regarding Llama though. So I'm liking you.
I don't know if nom is town or scum. But I'd like to point out this type of behavior is his standard modus operandi.
Court Mafia: Day 1, hatch plan to KILL EVERYONE ELSE IN A SINGLE NIGHT, when the plan only allows him to hit 11 random players, ATTEMPTS TO FIRE ANYHOW (Roleblocked).
In other words....Nom is an impulsive player who doesn't think about planning long-term or listening to others. I wouldn't be surprised if he was town. At all.
I'm the one not following you here. How does "lynchpls" not imply WoD wants him lynched ?
If WoD actually wanted Gamerz dead, he would've hardly phrased it in such a facetious manner, probably actually giving reasons for other people to want Gamerz dead as well.
At this point, how serious did you think Seppel and WoD's votes were?
I thought it was likely an attempt to get reactions, but considering that I've never played a game with them before, I wasn't entirely sure of their true intentions. I was also a little miffed that they would start a wagon like that that early in the game as well, joking or not.
Why do you care how "real" votes are at this point? It'll become apparent soon enough and is definitely not a sufficient reason to vote yourself. What type of reactions would you have been looking for, anyway - what did you expect WoD and Seppel to do if they were joking?
I had no clue what to expect really. Best case scenario, I was hoping that they'd just back off and let other people have some fun first. Worst case scenario, it leads to me getting quick-lynched before I got up in the morning, but obviously I didn't think taht likely at all, considering I voted for myself...and if I did get lynched that quickly? You guys'd have an easy time picking out the scum from that.
And the reason I voted myself in particular was because I thought it'd be the last thing they'd expect me to do...all the better way to get a more natural reaction.
Additionally, your second sentence is horribly scummy. "Interesting" is extremely vague, and a weasely word to avoid directly calling someone scummy. The logic itself is also weak - it would be like saying Seppel shouldn't be chastising you for saying "I'M SCUM" if you were scum.
Blah, it's just the way I word things often. The same way I also tend to start sentences off with the word 'honestly' a lot (which always strikes me as such a scummy way to start off a sentence).
And I see what you mean about the chasitising thing. I was about to say "Well, why would he?', but now I realize what you're talking about...if I'm doing something that is probably considered stupid, well, of course he's gonna get upset. It's like doing something obviously scummy in order to get reactions...it's not gonna help because you're going to get scum and townies alike going "You're scum!"
What I'm reading here is that Gamerz sees people he views as more experienced voting him and attempts to pass it off as a joke by joining his own bandwagon, then attempting to cover this up by the above comment.
Enh, you can see how you like...I admit, it probably was stupid of me to do (to vote myself, that is), and by looks of it, it didn't really amount to anything (hence the stupidity of it all).
I'm not sure I see what you mean - "lynchpls" doesn't really imply that WoD really wants him lynched
I think what we're suffering here is a lack of communication and comprehension.
"Call their bluff?" - Why would you want to do that, especially considering that you were in no danger of being lynched and that they were obviously fishing for reactions.
To get more reactions, of course, like I said. I can do that, too, can't I?
Additionally, the second paragraph is more example of "soft" language, repeatedly stressing that he's not calling anyone scummy and avoiding confrontation. "I just don't like it" is hardly ever a sufficient reason for anything in Mafia.
You're right, it's not really strategy related at all. It's just personal preference. I'd personally rather see everyone get some fun in before things get all serious.
If someone claims that they are an unlynchable, unkillable, octa-voter, with 4 daykills and 6 doc-protects, then technically lynching that person solely based on his claim would be gaming the mod, but I would be just fine doing that.

So you were "hoping that they'd just back off and let other people have some fun?"
You also didn't answer why you cared whether or not the votes on you were "real."
The second part of your explanation just devolves into rambling - you didn't explain what type of reactions you would've expected from WoD and Seppel, since you supposedly wanted to see if they were serious or not.
Quote from Gamerz »
And the reason I voted myself in particular was because I thought it'd be the last thing they'd expect me to do...all the better way to get a more natural reaction.
Again, what type of reactions were you looking for from the self-vote that would help you discern alignment?
Quote from Gamerz »
To get more reactions, of course, like I said. I can do that, too, can't I?
"To get more reactions" is not a valid reason. If WoD and Seppel were fishing for reactions (Which you have stated that you found such the case likely), then why would you want to call them out on that? Why do you need to prove that they don't actually want you lynched?
Quote from Gamerz »
You're right, it's not really strategy related at all. It's just personal preference. I'd personally rather see everyone get some fun in before things get all serious.
You continuously cite "fun" as a reason for your personal actions. Not to be blunt, but if the random phase is the only part of the game that you find fun, you may have a difficult time of enjoying Mafia. "Fun" is not a sufficient reason to elongate the random voting phase.
Quote from Zebi »
There's not much interpretation to be had.
Random voting phase is random.
Also, WoD's call for a lynch is obviously in the, wait for it, random voting phase. If that was 10 pages from now, there would be an issue.

I agree that it is scummy, although I wouldn't describe it as overly defensive per se. Explain which parts you find defensive and what parts of my first post led you to initially disagree with me.
Actually, he's right, it was really defensive. I was gonna respond at length to your post, but I just realize now that I'm just digging myself a bigger hole.
Here's how it went down.
WoD quotes my 'random?' questions and votes me. I remark that I'm guessing it's not random (which it's not, really). I wonder if maybe he thinks that my asking people if their vote is random is a 'scum tell' (I know, I know, I'm an idiot )
He then confirms his vote which makes me think he actually is serious in his vote. (this is where my lack of comprehension comes in)
Seppel joins in. Looks likely to be just a 'fishing for reactions' vote. Well, he got it. I get miffed that there's already 2 non-random votes on me when not even half the town has joined in yet, and decide to call them on it, voting for myself to see what happens, because they are probably not expecting me to do so.
Seppel gets miffed that I voted for myself and proclaims jskura and I scum. Still not sure if that's actually serious or not but I guess I can't really blame him in the end, since, like I said before, it was probably stupid of me to vote for myself in the first place.
I taunt Seppel asking him why he's so upset since reactions are what I thought he wanted in the first place. He wanted it, he got it. I imply that he's trying stop people from having fun.
If someone claims that they are an unlynchable, unkillable, octa-voter, with 4 daykills and 6 doc-protects, then technically lynching that person solely based on his claim would be gaming the mod, but I would be just fine doing that.
I don't suppose I can ask you to explain which of my points against Gamerz that you don't agree with?
I'd like him to respond to all your questions, but as it is, he feels like he's town concerned about his image (yeah go fig). I think what he's doing is legit, just very bad.
I can applaud someone trying to have fun in a mafia game.
Dang it guys, I get here after RVS ended. I missed my chance to participate in the great tradition of voting for Seppel.
Gamerz seems jittery to me. First time I played with him he was OBV town from the start, although that is a very small meta to go by. His posts still seem reasonable and Gamerz enough to me, so I'm okay with him.

Oh, and Seppel, I can answer iLord's questions, but I feel that my last explanation of what happened early should be sufficient. I just realized that I was going too at length in answering things and getting too upset about being under suspicion so early.

What other games have you played here?
"voting for myself to see what happens" while having no idea what your looking for strikes me as completely pointless, but its bearing on alignment really depends on how you usually play.
Quote from ZDS »
How do you get a "facetious" read on a single word ?
The fact that the "word" is "lynchpls," which is hardly ever used in a serious context.
Quote from ZDS »
Now that I can: there are several factors that make me think Gamerz is town. First, he is blissfully unaware that what he did is scummy. I'd expect a scum, especially newb scum, to (abruptly) change their ways in order to appease the town. And in any case, not fully understanding what it is that you've done wrong is a town tell (scum are much more receptive to their own scumminess). Second, he is very calm for someone who is under so much pressure so early. The tone in his posts is not the tone of someone who feels endangered. Notice the lack of tangible emotion in most and the cheerfulness in some.
In short: there are signs of Gamerz having a townie set of mind and no sign of him having a scum set of mind, regardless of how sloppy his actions are.
I completely agree that he was unaware what he did was scummy, as well as the fact that he has retained his composure. I'm going to try and read some other games that he was in to get a feel for his style/experience, as I feel that his scummy action (Voting himself in an attempt to alleviate pressure), may not actually be something that only scumGamerz would do.

Well, it's not completely pointless; at the very least it'll help me for later games in determining what happens. Lesson learned...voting for yourself is probably not a good thing. I'm always gonna be willing to try things out to see if they work in order to refine my playstyle with my personality. And I'm definitely not afraid of experienced players...don't get me wrong, I respect you guys...but I don't know if you're on my side or not, so I'm not always gonna listen, and just do my own thing.

Not for the sort that Seppel and WoD were initiating in this case, hence why I don't understand why Gamerz felt it necessary to "call them on their bluff," when maintaining such a bluff does not appear antitown.
Explain what type of mindset you think scumNom_Anor had to explain those actions.
Trying to get an early feel for how seriously people are taking things without putting out too much too risk. These kinds of posts can always be semi-defended later on by just stating they were half jokes and trying to force reactions from people. So this pretty much leaving out feelers and trying too see where to build an early wagon.

Switching his vote in under less than an hour is hardly a effective way to "feel" for possible wagons.

If you get me killed twice in a day, I am going to have to hurt you.
You've got an hour left.

I will resist temptation to get into discussion about an ongoing game.
That said, I cannot daykill. But it would be sort of amusing to have someone die in 2 different games on the same day.
OMGUS Vote bman cause he was winning scum in the last game I played with him.

Random?
I repeat...random?
I hope images are allowed. I didn't see anything about it in the rules.

Unvote, vote Gamerz

Vote Gamerz
Oh noes! Third vote! I'm scum!
Jskura and Gamerz for scum.
Oh come on, I thought you wanted to see what happens?
One might come to the conclusion that one is not allowed to have fun in this game or something.
Wanted to see how 'real' their vote for me was. Interesting reaction from Seppel so far...if I (and Jskura) am scum, then what's the problem with voting myself?
Depends on the reason for doing so. I would hardly say that jskura's random voting himself because his name was spelled wrong is 'sloppy'. On the other hand, I decided to call their bluff and join in, see what reaction I could get from it. I can see, in retropsect now, that there probably isn't much benefit from it, especially in the way that I did it.
I'm also not a fan of getting that serious before half the people in the game have even confirmed yet, as well. Asking questions? Okay. Trying to start a wagon? No. Not necessarily saying it's scummy, I just don't like it.
vote BigLlama for trying too hard to remain irrelevant.
I'm liking Seppel so far.
Not liking Gamerz.
Longer posts will come when I can post from something other than a phone.
At this point, how serious did you think Seppel and WoD's votes were?
I'm not sure I see what you mean - "lynchpls" doesn't really imply that WoD really wants him lynched
Actually talk about what's going on.
Vote: Gamerz
Explain after Gamerz defends himself.

If WoD actually wanted Gamerz dead, he would've hardly phrased it in such a facetious manner, probably actually giving reasons for other people to want Gamerz dead as well.

From this I take you don't agree with some of my points?
My Custom Set: Solescurio
I thought it was likely an attempt to get reactions, but considering that I've never played a game with them before, I wasn't entirely sure of their true intentions. I was also a little miffed that they would start a wagon like that that early in the game as well, joking or not.
Enh, you can see how you like...I admit, it probably was stupid of me to do (to vote myself, that is), and by looks of it, it didn't really amount to anything (hence the stupidity of it all).
I think what we're suffering here is a lack of communication and comprehension.
To get more reactions, of course, like I said. I can do that, too, can't I?
You're right, it's not really strategy related at all. It's just personal preference. I'd personally rather see everyone get some fun in before things get all serious.
There's not much interpretation to be had.
Random voting phase is random.
Also, WoD's call for a lynch is obviously in the, wait for it, random voting phase. If that was 10 pages from now, there would be an issue.
Sign up for League of Legends!
That post's as scummy as hell and far too defensive.
Unvote. Vote: Gamerz
What other intentions did you think they could have?
So you were "hoping that they'd just back off and let other people have some fun?"
You also didn't answer why you cared whether or not the votes on you were "real."
The second part of your explanation just devolves into rambling - you didn't explain what type of reactions you would've expected from WoD and Seppel, since you supposedly wanted to see if they were serious or not.
Again, what type of reactions were you looking for from the self-vote that would help you discern alignment?
"To get more reactions" is not a valid reason. If WoD and Seppel were fishing for reactions (Which you have stated that you found such the case likely), then why would you want to call them out on that? Why do you need to prove that they don't actually want you lynched?
You continuously cite "fun" as a reason for your personal actions. Not to be blunt, but if the random phase is the only part of the game that you find fun, you may have a difficult time of enjoying Mafia. "Fun" is not a sufficient reason to elongate the random voting phase.
Stance on Gamerz?
I agree that it is scummy, although I wouldn't describe it as overly defensive per se. Explain which parts you find defensive and what parts of my first post led you to initially disagree with me.
My Custom Set: Solescurio
Gamerz last post shows much concern for his image. Oddly enough, I'm fine with him, considering it's his image that's at stake.
He was, however, anti-town.
I like DragonDart, Gamerz and ZDS. DragonDart and Gamerz moreso than ZDS. Nom is likely misguided.
I am still suspicious of Jskura.
I'm cool with WoD. He's actually scumhunting this time!
Zebi, Kraj, and BMan are off the radar for me.
Unvote, vote BigLlama. RVS is over. Start being useful.
I don't suppose I can ask you to explain which of my points against Gamerz that you don't agree with?
My Custom Set: Solescurio
FoS: Nom_Anor
Two posts, both outside of RVS, short with not much explained reasoning, and your voting for someone both times. Looks very suspicious.
I don't think you or I have been around long enough for me to have gotten my playstyle 'personalized'. Your read seems fake. What about my posts seem 'reasonable' or as you put it 'Gamerz'?
Oh, and Seppel, I can answer iLord's questions, but I feel that my last explanation of what happened early should be sufficient. I just realized that I was going too at length in answering things and getting too upset about being under suspicion so early.
What other games have you played here?
"voting for myself to see what happens" while having no idea what your looking for strikes me as completely pointless, but its bearing on alignment really depends on how you usually play.
The fact that the "word" is "lynchpls," which is hardly ever used in a serious context.
I'm not sure if I'm understanding you, but I think you're expressing similar sentiments as ZDS?
You of all people would definitely understand the importance of "fun" in a mafia game, but I don't feel that it is a valid reason for attempting to discouraging developments.
Explain what type of mindset you think scumNom_Anor had to explain those actions.
My Custom Set: Solescurio
Of the games that I've finished, I was in Basic #7, where I was townie tracker, and Basic #9, where I replaced in as a townie.
Answered after my examples (taken from post #41):
The fact that you pretty much straight up answer iLord's questions without really dodging or evading some of the questions while giving (what seems to me) like your candid thinking to explain your actions/reactions.
Hardly without elaboration with or following it, I hope.
I wouldn't say that it's been reversed, as I haven't looked at Basic 7 and 9 yet.
Not for the sort that Seppel and WoD were initiating in this case, hence why I don't understand why Gamerz felt it necessary to "call them on their bluff," when maintaining such a bluff does not appear antitown.
My Custom Set: Solescurio
Trying to get an early feel for how seriously people are taking things without putting out too much too risk. These kinds of posts can always be semi-defended later on by just stating they were half jokes and trying to force reactions from people. So this pretty much leaving out feelers and trying too see where to build an early wagon.
Yes.
Switching his vote in under less than an hour is hardly a effective way to "feel" for possible wagons.
