Ok guys I see that once again we are throwing around new ideas that you would like to see placed into the game. Post your general ideas here so we can read them and all talk about them.
As note I want to say now that an idea about decks and hands and stuff like that really isn't going work. Players have already expressed the dislike of those ideas but if you feel compelled to put them up I guess its your initiative.
Now I have a pair of topics for you if you would like to talk about it.
1. Leveling benefits. Currently it unlocks sets and increases satchel size. Any thing in particular you would like to see?
2. Abilities. I'm sure people have seen Long-Fur's healing granted to him by his dark lord. Any other things people have been bouncing around in their heads?
1.) Maybe a graduated cap on the life max. 30 is great early on, but later, I would imagine it's not all that great. Just a thought.
2.) I've always wanted wings, y'know...
On levelling benefits: the satchel size increase and available sets are good, but a life increase could be good as well. Now, I know there are some green and white mages out there who are best friends with Soul/Essence Warden, so I am glad that a cap exists. If life totals go up (say, 2/level) then the cap for life gained above normal maximum should go up...If I recall correctly, the cap is 30 life, which is 50% of normal maximum. If it's kept that way, say, a level 3 white mage uses Martyr of Sands (grr) , his normal max is 24 (20 base, +4 level) then his maximum including lifegain should probably be 32.
Special abilities: This could be done in several ways. There are several special abilities that could come in handy for many players, but to list them would be to limit the imaginations of both the WPLs and the players. If people gain special abilities, it should be granted by quest or as a reward (or nonreward, in the case of the Order of Yawgmoth, lol) and both the player and the WPL should work together to determine what is appropriate for the game and the character.
And yes, no incantatrix for you. Or anyone. That class makes puppies cry. Mostly because they are the former Big Bads who have been Baleful Polymorphed into said puppies. By you. Because you're an incantatrix.

I suppose it's true. Though the logistics implied in a human/Great Wyrm Prismatic Dragon pairing makes me shudder.
...Something tells me that even should all arcane casters in the world unite, that the Grease spell would NOT be sufficient.

I strongly second both of those. The second in perticular; reward players for good RP'ing, it motivates them to really develop their character. We've got alot of players with very clear pictures of what their characters are like, but I've read some that seem very... vanilla. Maybe the potential for special bonuses will motivate them, which ultimately makes the game more fun for all involved.
Also, I have to wonder...could we get a token spell of the chosen expansion on level up? Even just a common, but something to reinforce the new set. Hell, even at a WPLs discretion. Just an extra little something to reinforce the level up.
If anyone chose Saviors of Kamigawa, and I were WPL, I'd give you One with Nothing. Just because that evokes the whole flavor of the set to me.
A common...hm. Not a bad idea, but I doubt that they want to give up free spells. Also, that kind of screws those of us who have chosen a set not yet available.
And yes, no incantatrix for you. Or anyone. That class makes puppies cry. Mostly because they are the former Big Bads who have been Baleful Polymorphed into said puppies. By you. Because you're an incantatrix.

I had an idea for a new shop. Maybe we could have a shop that sells medicines and healing salves, that could be used for healing in between fights. Or if need be, during a match for a lesser effect since you "couldn't set it up properly in the heat of battle" or something. Just a thought.
It kind of got lost when someother pressing matter came up so, I'm putting it out here for discussion, assuming people actually like the idea.

WUBRG, your proposal did not get lost in the shuffle. We three (videojuegos, Fenrisrip25 and myself) are discussing it. When we reach a majority/consensus, we will inform the lot of you.
I have an ability update proposal of my own, but I cannot seem to locate all the information, so I'll have to get back to you on that.

Everything I say is fully substantiated by my own opinion.
I have been wanting to see professions, but it would be kinda hard to implement (I would think.) And kinda boring, too, since there probably wouldn't be all that many useful professions for this game (any sort of smithing would likely be out since we're all mages... maybe some form of enchanting and herbalism or alchemy as mentioned earlier... but I can't really think of anything else that would fit...)
Asking out a girl is like trying to cast a first turn Necropotence. Sometimes the other player will have the Force of Will to say no. You shouldn't let that stop you from trying it.
This ability allows the mage who possesses it to call up a minuscule amount of mana into his/her eyes in order to view the world through the connection the mage has with his/her magic. At its most basic, this power allows the mage to view the flavor of the ambient magic in the air and detect exactly what "color" of mana is most evident in the surroundings. Sufficient uses of the ability when appropriate can, at the WPL's discretion, grant the mage the capability to "see" through natural visual impairments such as fog or mist, though what the mage sees will be tinted with the color of the mage's inherent magic (in the case of magi with more than one color--guild magi--it is whichever color the mage started with).
Activating this ability costs 1 casting when used during combat.
In addition, each color provides a bonus effect to the sight:
White: The mage is incapable of being surprised and is able to accurately detect anything within (his/her level x 5) yards without effort or rolling
Blue: The mage can easily detect the presence of strong magic, such as that inherent in powerful artifacts. Such strong presences are discernible by type and the mage can detect relative locations with brief concentration
Black: The mage is able to determine how close anyone within (his/her level x 5) yards is to death. This means that the mage gets a sense of how many life points anyone within this range has left.
Red: The mage can pierce darkness without effort and can listen in on conversations from a long ways off, simply by detecting the sound waves
Green: The mage gets a sense of his/her surroundings within the harmony of natural order. If something is nearby that disrupts this harmony the mage will instantly be able to detect its distance and which direction from him/her it is.
To learn this ability, the mage must ask for training from the proper member of his/her House.

why would smithing be out? Red Mages would make excellent smiths, so would blue mages (because of Artifice)... the thing being that a smith is actually kind of a mage in and of itself in the real world in a manner of speaking. So I personally do not see much contradiction between Smithing and Magic, especially seeing as how given the storyline of Magic, the Ghitu were said to be both excellent Artificer's and Smiths, as well as Magicians all at the same time!

I definitely like that ability, but it is just one of several possibilities that should be made available to people.

I don't mean it wouldn't make sense for us to be smiths, I just mean we have no use for the product. I mean, we're mages. We're not Ghitu warriors sporting huge swords and full sets of battle armor. I know there's Warbeard's and what not, but I'm not a huge fan of the idea of weapons and what not anyway. I just really think it wouldn't work as a personal profession.
Asking out a girl is like trying to cast a first turn Necropotence. Sometimes the other player will have the Force of Will to say no. You shouldn't let that stop you from trying it.
Perhaps the black is weak in a situation where you know the opponent's life total or can assume that it's at a known value. However, there are foes who run around with 30 or 40 life, and Fenris and I prefer to keep track of damage dealt with -X, where X is the amount of damage/life loss the foe has taken to signify that players don't know how close the enemy is to death. The black ability would enable a black mage to actually know his foe's HP.
I'll see what else I might be able to come up with for black, though, as a secondary option.

Are any of you familiar with the D&D spells status and deathwatch? Status allows you to know an ally's status under the spell's description (healthy, dying, negative statuses, etc) and deathwatch does exactly what Ti'rin suggested in his previous post.
Both of those would not be overpowered and would show the flavor of the black mages' connection with life and death.

Perhaps make some sort of distillation that the Shanodia Druids are good at making, due to their facility with plants?
It could be one of their shops, and sounds like a good low-level quest for beginning mages- to go get the makings for these panacea.
To be used during battle should probably have some sort of penalty, though- whether it be loss of castings for that turn or diminished effect.
Of course, gold is a finite resource, so it can't be too abused. However, making such things prohibitively expensive is a bad idea as well.
