2-3 at an earlier tournament due to bad opening hands all day. I'd like to blame it on my skills but you know it's bad when your opponent with human reanimator drops down an Staticaster-Peddler earliest and your one drops refused to come out all day.
Also, this is making me want to go mono-red for a while since I'm always being color-screwed lately, or those are not just my days.

I am passionate, yet I am logical. The fire within me burns, but I am also patient to a point. I am with the Fires of Salvation
4-1 last night with my tweaked Boros Humans list. My one lost was to Bant Auras, and I beat Bant Control, MBC (which was weak), Dos Rakis, and UW Flash (in that order). Freaking Bant Auras in the finals... feh. Not a fan of that deck at all. It's just like goldfishing.
Finished out this FNM season (for me anyway) in good form--went 5-1 for 3rd place. My only match loss was to the 1st-place finisher who was running his take on the BG Aggro Ooze/Wolves deck. We split games 1 & 2 then variance kept me from even showing up for the 3rd game...had to mull to 5 and at that kept a 1-lander and did not see 2nd mana before he toasted me. I flipped ahead and it was card 16 in the deck...ugh. But variance aside, the deck ran extremely well all night, feeding me a constant stream of early building beats. KoI is far from dead...he showed well all night, and he and Noble were just merciless against the Boros Aggro (mainly humans) that I played for 3rd.
I almost wish GTC were not upon us...Dos Rakis has been a blast to play!
My sincere thanks to all here for the remarkable font of experience and crafting that has been shared throughout the RtR season--this clan truly rocks! A special shout-out to my Dos Rakis brothers for all fun that went into seeing the deck take shape. I raise my glass (Boulevard Dark Truth Stout, to be precise) to all of you and look forward to the ongoing adventure.
I wouldn't count Dos Rakis out yet. I think that deck has a lot of lifespan left to it, especially if we see any good Red or Black removal spells or some standout creatures from GTC.
Speaking of which, is anyone else concerned with the relative lack of removal so far in GTC? I really do not want another Avacyn Restored limited environment.

The world is on fire
and you are here to stay and burn with me.
The way I see it, removal tends to be more common or uncommon, not as much rare. We've been seeing a lot of rares and mythics in these spoilers, with the notable uncommons as the charms.
I think we'll see some burn or removal at the lower rarities. Just wait for the other cards to start getting spoiled.

Exactly...I expect we will see at least a few black removal spells and some burn at common/uncommon as they have to be there for Limited. If the general pattern holds, we will get at least one of each that is Constructed playable and the balanced will be below the curve. Between Orzhov and Dimir I expected to see a black sweeper of some sort, but we'll see.
I think a lot of people will be pushing the new stuff in gruul and boros and showing up in Dos Rakis will surprise the hell out of people for the first couple weeks.

I gotta admit, I'll be one of those people playing boros or gruul. Who doesn't want to play with new toys?
I think I'm finally starting to be a 'good' player (not a great one though). Looking through my games, way fewer errors than in the past. 14-1 this week!

photodyer, don't forget Rakdos will be back after GTC. All the guilds will get some extra goodies!
Didn't mean to sound like Rakdos was at an end...I am hoping that we see a few new cards that will give us more depth. I think that some of the new aggro hosers will show up in force to hate us out for a while, until everyone gets tired of control making inroads and aggro can swing back. We run extremely strong against other aggro decks, so I have no doubt that Rx Aggro will still be around, but Naya is going to just be a monster that's hard to ignore. Boros and Gruul as well, of course...I played a Boros deck last night that even before GTC was able to go head's up with me except in the removal department. Red is going to be featuring heavily at the aggro forefront, but it remains to be seen whether black will be able to hold its own against some powerful new color splashes.
I certainly won't be mothballing my deck...just let the folks at my LGS get a little complacent and we'll come crashing back in to dirty up all those shiny new cards that people will be drooling over!!
He cannot make double white in Game 1 and I just run him over with a double hellion crucible draw. Game 2 I flood out and he slow takes over, but I do force him to actually kill me, just to see more of his deck. I realise he doesn't have Lingering Souls. I board into the hyper aggro plan, but on turn 14 I have 13 land in play...sometime around turn 20 I overload a mortars to wipe his board and swing for lethal. I had him at 3 life with Searing Spear in hand for ~9 turns? I was able to use enough tactical pressure to stop him from using revelation.
Round 2: 2-0 vs BG Fight Club
This is a real deck? So I hear. Completely outplayed him in both games.
Game 1 we both flooded out badly, but I drew two Hellion Crucibles and they went to town on his face. Game 2 was more of the same ~ I boarded out a lot of 1 drops, kept in Wolves on the draw, brought in removal, traded everything 1-for-1, made a Hellion, drew a Hellrider *gg machinegun*
Photodyer, I am in agreement that Naya will be big after GTC. I have already thrown together a Dark Naya list, using Zealous Conscripts instead of Angel of Serenity and more Aristocrats than most decks run.
Here's hoping you feel better soon. Been there, done that.
Good luck with the interviews.
What are you teaching? (from one instructor to another)
You haven't lived until you've tried to give a brief case presentation (with a conceptualization that illustrates your theoretical orientation) while running a fever and having very little voice. It was incredibly surreal.
I'm teaching intro to psychology this semester, mostly just for some extra cash.
I'm right there with you. I caught the flu two weeks ago, developed a URI, then a sinus infection. I went to the doctor once last week and once this week and I've spent more time home sleeping than at work. I'm on steroids, DM cough syrup and omdansetron (for nausea/vomiting). I think I'm finally getting better. Hope you get better quickly. I talk on the phone all day and have lost my voice several times, so I know how bad it sucks to lose something you need for work.
It's been an interesting ride this semester. First off, I'm incredibly successful at getting interviews (14 out of 20 I applied for), then I get the flu right as I'm going to the bulk of them. And now, two weeks since initially getting the flu, I'm still pretty sick.
It sounds like you've had a fun time too though. Hopefully we'll both feel better.
With pre-release costing 35 bucks, will the cards that come out of it even be close to worth it or is it more for the fun/experience and potential winnings?
It can be pretty tricky to make your money back out of these things. The lands help increase the chances that you will, but most of the regular rares aren't worth much (especially compared to RtR at prerelease). My recommendation for any sealed event is to only go if you think you'll really enjoy the experience. If you break even on money, all the better. Of course, this all discounts prize; if you place pretty highly, those extra packs can command a premium around the prerelease.

Sig by Dark Night Cavalier at Heroes of the Plane Studios!
I'm not a fan of names like "Dark Naya" for decks. Why don't you just call them what they are, which is "No Blue" or something like that? I mean, Dark Naya means that you're running RGW and a hint of B, which is everything but U. What's with this misleading naming nonsense?
I guess it's just cooler for people who normally spout how amazing blue is to call something "Dark Naya" than to admit that a deck with almost every color has intentionally left their favorite out.
...Also, I have had approximately 2/3 a bottle of win right now, so I may be a bit more free with my opinions than normal. Happy Birthday to me.
Any new tech/spec targets to grab in this last week before prerelease? I'm always hunting
@Aesnath: What's Prerelease usually consist of? A pre-release deck and 3 packs? Previously I had been planning on buying a GTC box (because I've never bought a box before and I wanted the fun of opening) but with have rather mediocre most of what I've seen is and what I want being largely cheap, I don't feel like I'm gonna do that anymore. Pre-release might be fun, but I might rather wait until GTC drafts start the try out limited.
Yeah, its pretty hard to watch as an adult, the themes are extremely confronting. I watched it as a kid because I thought Nu was cool The conclusion...so gut wrenching.
They're ~$2 now, will be at least 8+. Take it from the guy who got Hellrider for $1 and Thundermaw for $7.
edit ~ thanks Valerio!
Already grabbed a playset as per your advise the other day
Skipped the foils though, someone pointed out foils came in an intro pack or something. Just didn't know if anything else popped up in all your testing you've been doing.
As for Gatecrash preorders: nothing really strikes me as "worth it". I drunkly bought Frontline Medic @5 a piece and he will likely go down from there. Either way, not too bummed because I will use him. Other than him though, I can't see anything taking a big jump or anything that's high right now staying there.
Two targets I keep looking at though:
Wild Beastmaster and Champion of Lambholt. WB is literally zero loss because it's a 25 cent rare, so I'll likely tack onto my next order for the vendor just in case. Not sure if I should just go with 4 or go all the way up to 12. She's weak, but Bloodrush might break her open? I am correct that Bloodrushing her will spread the stat bonus across creatures, right?
Champion+Bloodrush could enable you to switch free with your field. However, both of these plays could backfire and you could get 2 for 1ed, right? I know Bloodrush can't be counter, because you aren't casting but it can still be interrupted with instant speed burn, correct?
One dude not on the Gruul side of things is Precinct Captain. 2/2 First Strike but with the WW that might hurt in Boros. The upside of generating a token when you hit damage and enables Battalion easier. Has anyone used him? Worth it?

And I thought I was lucky for snagging all 6 of mine at $12 apiece.
Though I did get 2 sets of Hellriders when they were a buck apiece right before rotation.
