If the above post wasn't regarding such a loss for the city of Baltimore, (although not so much the city of Cleveland), and fans everywhere, I would point out what I would obviously point out as a Steelers fan. may the Ravens destroy the Bengals tonight in his honor.
@Asheroth, I pegged you for a Bengals fan.
Not much. We kind of did terribly in the last contest, basically coming in second to last.
I believe the next contest will be starting soon, and I believe it will be a design-a-format contest. Technically it has not been officially decided, however. It could be a chess contest, another dreaded cryptic crossword, or maybe even something else altogether. Currently, we are in the mafia contest, with me repping us.
We are all generally excited about r2r. I mean, have you scoped out all the available spoilers? Friggin' sweet. Hopefully they don't shaft us with Gatecrash.
Didn't Jivan say he was an adept at Cryptic Crosswords?
@MirrorEntity, I do! My meta was getting used to the deck, so I have been using zoo andd doing fairly well. If you're interested in my tempered steel, I can post the dl up. The zoo dl has not been updated since the last time I posted it in the old thread.
I decided to post it either way.
@GoC, I think it was a number of things. New offensive playbook hasent exactly been tested.
No kidding. I think Roethlisberger didn't throw a pass the whole first quarter. They're clearly still feeling things out on offense, though they looked somewhat better in the second half.
The line still looks like it could use a lot of improvement.
That's an understatement. The offensive line was just that - offensive. Roethlisberger had NO time to do things against meager blitzes. They're clueless. The Jets defense is going to hurt your QB if the line doesn't step it up big time.
Roethlisberger needs to play better.
He is the least of the Steelers' problems right now.
Our secondary got ate up by speed and Manning, (especially at the end of the game), just tore apart our defense.
Well, Peyton will do that to you. He really is one of the best; losing to him isn't much of a loss.
Not that it really mattered, but going for two like that kind of made me strach my head. I saw the tie if we had made it and that got a td, but it seems a bit risky with seven or eight minutes left, (or however much time was left).
I disagree, going for two is the right play there. If you make the two, it's 23-15 Denver and Ben's got a shot at driving downfield (if he had a line, but, I digress), hitting a TD and another two to tie... In a worst case scenario, you miss the two, 23-13 and it's still a TD and a FG to tie. Actually, the real worst case scenario is hitting the first two and missing the second while low on time. But you must go for that first two; there is zero reason to not do it. Teams are practicing for the two and using it more and more.
I do know we play the Jets next week. In fact, I will be at the game.
* god of cyanide is jealous.
I hope we can pull out a W, but it seems less likely with the chance of a good QB smacking us around. Speaking of which: I bet Sanchez hitting numbers like this kind of silence the Tebow fans...
It won't. The way this offense is going to work, Sanchez's numbers are getting a boost by the wildcard that Tebow throws into the mix. I don't know if you got to see the game, but Sanchez lined up as a wideout a few times, and Tebow lined up everywhere except on the offensive line. The chaos that Tebow's presence on field brings wears on a defense over time. You could see there were plays where the Bills guessed right and it was clear to everyone that they knew they lucked up.
I really haven't been this excited about a New York Jets offense in a long time, at least since 1998. Well, 1999, but I won't speak of 1999...
Funny story, in New York... Sanchez may as well be Rick Mirer the way many Jets fans speak of him. They forget his first two seasons ended with the Jets leading the AFC championship game at halftime. He's very talented, and this scheme we have going could be a great fit.
I see the elemental being used in :symbu:, hoping becomes a choice. I for sure see it in :symru:.
Well, there will certainly be a UR Delver/Nivmagus build. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a viable UB deck, but that's going to depend a lot on the rest of RTR.
I am a bit concerned as to what they will actually give us in Gatecrash. Apparently, the golgari now have assassins and we have become information dealers. So I'm kind of scared. If they make Mill a keyword finally and give that to us as our r2r guild mechanic, I'm gonna be pissed. At least they are making awesome, fun and playable cards for now. Hopefully, Gatecrash will be the same.
I don't think they will ever keyword mill. They would have done it by now. But i share your concern with Dimir's upcoming mechanic... though I have hope, as I thought they'd screw Azorius again, but instead they gave it its perfect fit mechanic.

New offensive coordinator. Maybe they played a bit too conservativly in the first half.
That's an understatement. The offensive line was just that - offensive. Roethlisberger had NO time to do things against meager blitzes. They're clueless. The Jets defense is going to hurt your QB if the line doesn't step it up big time.
Agreed fully. This was supposedly what they worked on all offseason. BS. I see little change if any.
Well, Peyton will do that to you. He really is one of the best; losing to him isn't much of a loss.
Statistically, we have Manning's number. As it is, he had ours last night.

It would be better if only my wife could tag along this time. The only game she gets to go to this year is the Philly game, and she's been hating on me the last several weeks. Oh yea, and I'll miss her terribly while I'm watching the game, so that always stings, (lol).
It won't. The way this offense is going to work, Sanchez's numbers are getting a boost by the wildcard that Tebow throws into the mix. I don't know if you got to see the game, but Sanchez lined up as a wideout a few times, and Tebow lined up everywhere except on the offensive line. I did not watch the game, save for bits and pieces between others. Hopefully we'll get fired up for our home opener and come out playing much better.
Funny story, in New York... Sanchez may as well be Rick Mirer the way many Jets fans speak of him. They forget his first two seasons ended with the Jets leading the AFC championship game at halftime. He's very talented, and this scheme we have going could be a great fit.
See, unless your name is Kordel Stewart, they never forget stuff like that in the Burgh. Roethlisberger could get away with murder and the fans would never even mention it. U til he starts loosing more than he wins, of course, (Kordel always had good years, but most of the fanbase disliked him for whatever reason if you recall), then he'll get trash on his lawn.
Well, there will certainly be a UR Delver/Nivmagus build. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a viable UB deck, but that's going to depend a lot on the rest of RTR.
I hope we see one emerge then be a solid tier one deck by the time Gatecrash hits. I haven't got to play viable ub in standard for at least a couple seasons. Not since the end of the season cawblade got the hammer:(

All Emperor is amazing, Sardonic Wrath and Transilvanian Hunger by Darkthrone are good, Immortal is nice if you're in that mood. Opeth isn't really black metal, just black influences but everything ever by Opeth is good!
@Cyanide: As far as obscure-time groove prog goes, I'm a massive fan of bands like Between the Buried and Me, TesseracT, Vildhjarta and Periphery

Darkthrone!
I wish Varg Vikernes wasn't an insane neo-nazi, as I enjoy Burzum a great deal just refuse to give money to that crazy fool.
@Jivan, and Aetoes, Scars was cool, as was the esper and jund parts of Alara.... though not as cool as Ravnica:) I think you can count me in the same boat.

I wasn't a massive Scars fan, mainly due to the art direction not being good for me. I found the original Mirrodin much more aesthetically pleasing. Plus, rehashed affinity, imprint revival, infect and battle cry just didn't interest me. Living weapon and phy mana were ok, but yaknow balance issues lol.
Yeah, I never bought many scars block boosters or went to any events. I've never pulled anything but junk from it. Innistrad block was exciting, but RTR... I'm selling stuff off so I can get another box
Statistically, we have Manning's number. As it is, he had ours last night.
Dunno, someone in the NFL thread quoted a figure that Peyton is 7-1 vs. the Steelers... I wouldn't know how to verify this info, but you may want to check your numbers.
Maybe I'm just stuck in the old way of thinking. And I undrstood the point, but just didn't think it was a enough of a pinch situation.
Once you're near or in the fourth quarter, you have to consider the impact that going for two has on the rest of your game. If going and getting the two means you're turning a two score game into a one score game, you have to try for two. If the Steelers didn't go for two the first time, it's a guaranteed two scores to win... with 10 minutes left in the fourth. If that's not a pinch situation...
See, unless your name is Kordel Stewart, they never forget stuff like that in the Burgh. Roethlisberger could get away with murder and the fans would never even mention it. Kordell seemed like the victim of his own hype in Pittsburgh. I know he was well-respected outside of Pittsburgh; we had a healthy respect for the man in NYC. Sanchez seems to suffer from the same here; many Jet fans wanted to run him out of town after last year, and the signing of Tebow only strengthened the will of the Sanchez haters. I keep reminding people of his accomplishments, but fans of good NY teams are brutal: Win immediately or start over and then win immediately again. (You'd never know the Yankees were competitive, the way Yankee fans kill the manager and players after a bad outing.) Jet fans, especially, are very impatient, between the fact that Jet fans under 40 have never seen a Lombardi Trophy hoisted by our boys and the Giants not only winning Super Bowls, but winning the last two against our archenemy Bill Belichick and the nemesis of his Patriots... Damn it, I want a Super Bowl for my team in my lifetime!
One friend of mine claims that his father did not raise him right because his father, a Giants fan, allowed him to become a Jets fan.
I only like it if it's grainy, anti-christian and mad.
Sounds like most of Darkthrone's work. Other bands I can recommend are: Morbid Angel (especially their first three albums), Mayhem, Dimmu Borgir (though they're over-produced now, they still are just brutal), and Amon Amarth.
I can't deal with the racist side. When I read Lords of Chaos, (a long, long time ago), I stopped listening to a few bands. Too much for me, lol.
I can understand that. I try not to care if the music's good, but if the band's lyrical message is that above all else, I also pass on them.
By the by, what did you mean in a previous post by "robot love music" or something like that? What else do you listen to? (I listen to some music that could be described as that as well, so I'm curious. )
This is really making me happy and think that the Ravens are going to have a good year.
It was a good tribute to the man who made this possible..
The Ravens have always needed a respectable offense in order to do well, since their defense is often among the toughest in the league. Flacco is a hard quarterback to judge; I've always felt he was a bit overrated, but he manages to do just enough to get you there more often than not... so maybe he's not overrated... you see?
Re: Art Modell... I found it very ironic that they mentioned the move of the Dodgers from Brooklyn in the memorial in the beginning (was that Costas? I think it was, and he'd certainly be the one to do that...). I was surprised by it, especially given the significance of shipping the Browns to Baltimore, in the sense that I thought it was heavy-handed for a memorial. But, it's true... Eh.

OK... Between the Buried and Me are pretty awesome. Same for Vildhjarta; they're Meshuggah-lite, pretty much. I don't recall hearing TesseracT... but, I have heard Periphery, and I'm not into the Dream Theatery side of prog-metal one bit, mostly because I dislike the singers.
One band I wanted to namedrop to you that I like is Necrophagist, if only because I made the ringtone of my iPhone the intro to "Stabwound"

Im the opposite, I think Flaaco is underrated. People kept going on and on about how flaaco isnt that good and how he sucks...
Last year, I told everyone that Flaaco would step up in the Pats game. I believe Flaaco did....
I think this is the year. If they dont do it this year, then I think we'll lose two of our greatest players to retirement (although a certain one would probably have to be tranq'd to stop playing the more i think...)
Also, I just noticed this solemn date. It is only made better by the wrath we had wrought on those responsible.
My goodness gracious, they're giving esper control a great shell with RtR aren't they? that uncounterable DoJ for 1WWU is ridiculous.
Also that XU counter, alright in the early game, but after T4 when mana leak stops being relevant, it becomes quite sick. Imagine countering a worldspire wurm on turn 6 for 5? I can see that going down real well

Burzum doesn't even really promote racism within the music itself, (save maybe the title of his last album, translates into "the White God"). The music is always about pagan/naturalist stuff and the earlier albums were Lord of the Rings put to the sound of a double blast. But yea, whenever I hear it all I can think of is Vikernes insane writings and very public beliefs.
By the by, what did you mean in a previous post by "robot love music" or something like that? What else do you listen to? (I listen to some music that could be described as that as well, so I'm curious. )
I have mainly listened to electronic music for the last ten years or so. Mostly, the genres and subgenres of drum and bass, darkwave, dark ambient, techno-industrial, heavily electronica influenced industrial, and in recent years, dubstep. I don't go to clubs or anything and typically tend to dislike others involved with the scene, but still enjoy the electronic beeps and whistles moreso than any other type of music.
I have been wanting to form some sort of Electronic Metal sounding band on Sally, with none of the members ever actually meetings. I always thought that could be neat. I play bass, can sing as well as do a consistant deep and high growl and mess around a great deal with music editing and production using Acid and FruityLoops. I think I have even asked you if you may be interested? If not, would you?
Syncopate is a reprint but a good one, it didnt see much play during its time b/c better counters existed, during lorwynn, Broken Ambitions saw play in several tier 1 decks such as, Faeries, and 5CC, and the original Super Friends, Syncopate is a great counter its good early but is useable during all point in the game your opp literally has to play around X which is how ever much mana you have open on that turn

The bass solo for "Only Ash Remains" was mine for a long time!
Hahaha right on!!! I cut out the drum intro on mine and stopped it at the stop. It only rings about one second into the repeat, but the break for the repeat is almost the length of the rest in the actual song.
I never remember BC doing stuff like this. With ten minutes left, even behind by 21 ait still could be anyone's game.
It could be anyone's game, but fortune heavily favors the team up by 21 there - and it would, even with the twos. And, yeah, Cowher was definitely not a "go for two" kind of guy, but his teams usually had the lead (and held it!), so it's not quite the same.
You don't know how hard I was hoping Cowher would unretire and coach the Jets. I even considered trying to contact him personally.
The argument could be made that he raised him incorrectly because he didn't end up a Steelers fan;) I'll leave that one alone, though, haha.
Funny story, I was originally a Steelers fan when I was a wee lad, as that was around the second half of the Bradshaw & Steel Curtain era. I had considered staying with them but felt uncomfortable around all the NY fans, so I switched shortly after Bradshaw retired. Silly me. My first football game (and only, for a long time) was a Giants-Steelers preseason game in maybe '78 or '79.
Darkthrone is probably the most listened to band between my black metal enthusiastic circle of friends.
Damn, wish I had a circle of friends that were black metal enthusiasts...

Since I know (and care) little about that, no worries. I have one Burzum CD, it comes up on iTunes titled as "Burzum/Aske" so I'm not quite sure what the CD includes, but I like it.

I think you and I must have a music summit one day. I've pretty much divided my time between metal, electronic and bits and pieces of other genres for about fifteen years or so. I'm less of a subgenre obsesser than most, but I know what I like - jazzy D&B (like a lot of Roni Size's music), industrial (Skinny Puppy, old KMFDM, FLA), abstract **** like Aphex Twin and Squarepusher, and some random stuff from the other subgenres (Fischerspooner, Front 242, etc.). I also like some '90's indie rock (especially Pavement and Stereolab) and technical instrumental stuff (Secret Chiefs 3, The Grassy Knoll). Are you familiar with an artist named Bogdan Raczynski? I think he's the epitome of robot love sounds. I've been checking out jazz, too; right now, I love Charles Mingus and Thelonius Monk a hell of a lot.
I am interested in this musical project. I lack software at the moment, but I play bass, guitar, and keyboards, I can do backup screaming but not much else... And I have a history in programming and composing, mostly from a lot of work I did in my 20's using some ancient software (specifically, Digital Orchestrator Plus, which I still have on a decrepit machine that exists waiting for me to copy all the songs I still have stored on it).
I've been dying to get a hold of a good set of drum hit samples and some other instruments. I was used to working a certain way, and I find it's hard to get the sounds necessary to do that anymore without a significant financial investment on my part. Unfortunately, much of my musical output is on the old and not-on-MP3 side. If you search on Facebook for "Anonymous Collective," you can hear some of the music I've participated in, though I'll be honest, there's not a lot up on there. It's mostly a holding place for a friend and I whenever we get our inevitable musical project underway.

I just don't listen to black metal for the lyrics. I could care less what they're saying. Personally, I love love love driving to anything by Darkthrone.

And if I've offended you, I'm sorry, but maybe you need to be offended. But here's my apology and one more thing...
New offensive coordinator. Maybe they played a bit too conservativly in the first half.
Agreed fully. This was supposedly what they worked on all offseason. BS. I see little change if any.
Statistically, we have Manning's number. As it is, he had ours last night.
Maybe I'm just stuck in the old way of thinking. And I undrstood the point, but just didn't think it was a enough of a pinch situation.
It would be better if only my wife could tag along this time. The only game she gets to go to this year is the Philly game, and she's been hating on me the last several weeks. Oh yea, and I'll miss her terribly while I'm watching the game, so that always stings, (lol).
I did not watch the game, save for bits and pieces between others. Hopefully we'll get fired up for our home opener and come out playing much better.
I hope we see one emerge then be a solid tier one deck by the time Gatecrash hits. I haven't got to play viable ub in standard for at least a couple seasons. Not since the end of the season cawblade got the hammer:(
I agree that they probably won't make mill a keyword, though they should.
I only like it if it's grainy, anti-christian and mad. I can't deal with the racist side. When I read Lords of Chaos, (a long, long time ago), I stopped listening to a few bands. Too much for me, lol.

Yes indeed. Sad to see such a person pass on. The game tonight will be an emotional one. And the Bengals are in trouble! Can't wait for the game to begin!

I know the feeling.
[EDIT]
Credit where credit is due! Should have read page 3 before posting ;P You bet me to suggesting Darkthrone ^^

If they give us a single usable counterspell, omg.

Sounds like most of Darkthrone's work. Other bands I can recommend are: Morbid Angel (especially their first three albums), Mayhem, Dimmu Borgir (though they're over-produced now, they still are just brutal), and Amon Amarth.
I can understand that. I try not to care if the music's good, but if the band's lyrical message is that above all else, I also pass on them.
By the by, what did you mean in a previous post by "robot love music" or something like that? What else do you listen to? (I listen to some music that could be described as that as well, so I'm curious. )

Also that XU counter, alright in the early game, but after T4 when mana leak stops being relevant, it becomes quite sick. Imagine countering a worldspire wurm on turn 6 for 5? I can see that going down real well

@Mirror, will do!
IKll have to look into this. My fandom might be obscuring the facts in my mind, But I could have sworn we've beaten Manning more than he's beaten us.
I never remember BC doing stuff like this. With ten minutes left, even behind by 21 ait still could be anyone's game.
Hopefully, you'll get one:)
The argument could be made that he raised him incorrectly because he didn't end up a Steelers fan;) I'll leave that one alone, though, haha.
I am quite familiar with all those bands except Amon Amarth. Darkthrone is probably the most listened to band between my black metal enthusiastic circle of friends.

It could be anyone's game, but fortune heavily favors the team up by 21 there - and it would, even with the twos. And, yeah, Cowher was definitely not a "go for two" kind of guy, but his teams usually had the lead (and held it!), so it's not quite the same.
You don't know how hard I was hoping Cowher would unretire and coach the Jets. I even considered trying to contact him personally.
